I wager we all know that Darkfall us under a severe dos attack over the last 3-4 days. Closely coinciding with the anticipated release date of Jan 22. Ive played my fair share of MMOs and have been in plenty of betas and releases. This is the first instance I am aware of an assault of this magnitude against an MMO. WoW had its issues with hacking, but those were focused against players not to impede the game.

Does it suggest that these MMO companies are ramping up their cyber espionage?  Or is this just more speculation for conspiracy theorists and we should all equip our tinfoil hats with +100 mind control resistance?

Thoughts?

I'm sure Aventurine doesn't have the money to employ a crack force of network engineers.  Also their servers are probably tiny compared to some of the big boys systems during their phases of beta.

Regardless of the circumstances, it still seems fishy to me.  My opinion is that Aventurine is behind it.  They started a beta (for real this time) and their systems couldn't handle the few people they gave access to.  In an attempt to quell the complaints, they initiated the "DDOS" attack simulator and pointed the blame at it.

In a post 3-4 days ago, the devs said they would be inviting more players and would give an update in a few hours.  Maybe I'm wrong, but no update has been posted anywhere.

It will be interesting to see where this goes.  Its the current episode of the MMO soap opera.

It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

There's fanboy talk and then there's talking out of your ass.  That was the latter.

Their webpage is actually hosted by a company called Network Solutions, they had been experienced DDOS attacks up until yesterday afternoon or earlier, when they fixed the problem.

So...

Technically the forums should be up now, as their main page is still intact.

Why would trolls spend hours a day trolling forums around the internet claiming Darkfall is vaporware and do everything in their power to dissuade players from ever trying the game, following the game, or believing the game exists.  Why do they hate the game so much like they have so much invested in its downfall?  Why does being able to say, 'I told you so.' seem to be worth so much to them?

I honestly have no clue.  I hope you can find some answers and share them with me.

I thought the accepted version of the story was that tasos tripped over a cord and disconnected the server.

Then one of the lead designers had the bright dea of ordering a new server off Ebay, and now they are sitting around waiting for the delivery (it's coming from china to save a few bucks)

what make you believe is a DDOS attack ?
is there any proof for DDOS attack ? from the hosting company http://www.leaseweb.com is one of the best hosting company in europe
what me you think some ppl can make DDOS attack for so long ?

you are telling me that if you ping the host IP: 82.192.87.38 (where only the DFO forums and DFO beta are hosted) you get 100% loss ?

if a ping this hosting company i get 70ms where is the DDOS ?
the ping on google.com is 150-170ms
