Really... IF darkfall cant handle a DOS atack how do they expect to handle the multiple hacks made possible using a fps shooter type interface?  How can they handle any problems?  THey claimed their game had the best anti-hack defense.

To be honest, no site is truely safe from attacks. Cut them some slack in this.

You are aware that their sites are not hosted internally (at least not at the moment) but on an webhost provider....who is also responsible for the security measures and as above poster already said

no one is immune from this type of attacks

Honestly, there will be hacks no matter what.

That's not a slam against DF or AV. That's just the way it goes with software.

Even MMOs that have been live for years still have holes that the more "persistent" will find and try to exploit. And there will always be things that devs miss or don't anticipate.

For example, Square-Enix just banned over 500 accounts and suspended 400+ others in FFXI for a duping exploit some were abusing in some high-end content. That game has been around for over 7 years and is a very stable game overall. But there ya go... there was still a weakness that someone found and took advantage of.

So long as there are those who are more interested in hacking/cheating through a game than playing it, and they have the know-how, there will be hacking.

Of course a more solid client/server will make it more difficult, but it will never be "hack proof".

What it really boils down to and what I think AV would ultimately be judged on is how swiftly and capably they deal with it. And, no matter any cheering or nay-saying from either side, that remains to be seen. The only fair and objective way to look at it is we'll have to see how  AV responds/performs when put to the test. Hopefully none of it can be used to obtain subscribers' account info.

I can't even make heads or tails of the DoS thing.. I know it *happened*... but there's a whole lot of speculation and mixed info as to whether the extended forum downtime has anything to do with it. I'm not even going to wager a guess 'cause I have no clue what's going on out there.

Anyways... my two cents.

Noob . . .

DDOS News/Info for Noobs Like You

"CircleID is reporting a large-scale DDoS attack affecting all of Network Solutions' name servers for the past 48 hours, potentially affecting millions of websites and emails around the world hosting their domain names on the company's servers. The NANOG mailing list indicates that it is due to a very large-scale UDP/53 DDoS which Network Solutions has also confirmed: 'There is a spike in DNS query volumes that is causing latency for the delay in web sites resolving. This is a result of a DDOS attack. We are taking measures to mitigate the attack and speed up queries.""

Well, with all the info surrounding the situation already posted there is one thing left to do.

Well it's all for me grog, me jolly jolly grog,
