I don't like the tendency of certain forumfallers attaching so much significance to join dates but you are wrong to think the average person who joined the forums recently and posted in the advanced discussion section were offering quality posts. They would ask stupid questions that would be answered in the FAQs posted in the Newbie forum. Others were simply obnoxious when the questioned the integrity of the company making demands and not requests for information. Before November 08 the number of people who went to the forums to harass the community couldn't be counted beyond one hand. After November I could easily see the number of flame baits escalate. Speaking as someone who has actively tried to refocus the forumfall community from being less hostile to new people and has always viewed the core community as a liability I find the self importance, ignorance and obnoxious attitudes of the majority of late joiners who actively post in Advanced discussion even more intolerable. It's the fault of the mods and admins that they allowed the core community to devolve into a hostile pack. But when I joined I didn't adopt the general hostility of the group that existed. That just tells me the rotten new people were already spoiled and rotten before the joined forumfall. I can say for sure if anyone new forumfallers are getting into beta it is going to be the people who don't post at all (hence having no track record to hold them accountable for) or who post in a positive fashion. Aventurine doesn't need assholes testing their game. No person desires hostile agents near their work. |

When it comes to forums and Internet communities there is one rule that persists despite anyone's best efforts.... You cant fix stupid!...... But you can ignore it. Yet people continue to feed trolls and fix stupid.... Futile |

I think its time the designers think outside the box, introduce a game that requires a manual, a scratch pad and a fkin brain. |

I think its time the designers think outside the box, introduce a game that requires a manual, a scratch pad and a fkin brain. After that first part, I started to agree with you. My son plays WoW with his buddies. I have jumped in there every once in a while, but almost always log right back out thinking what a mistake that was. Anyways, I was totally shocked at the most recent version where they give you so much info on your maps that it can't be any fun to play. I don't know what all of it was, didn't spend the time to check it out, but I half expect that someday soon, you'll just click on an icon on your mini-map and your character will go there, kill it, loot it, and come back. You can go get a soda pop and send a few text messages on your cell. I wait for the game where I keep notes, review things to figure out what I'm missing, think about what things mean, decipher cryptic codes, look for clues that I don't know where they are, fight using my wiles as much as my characters numbers, and end the evening carousing with my companions just because it's fun. I don't know if Darkfall is all that. But it's about half way around the world closer than anything out there for a fantasy based game. Once upon a time.... |

I think this is what took out the forumfall. All need to read and be aware of this. www.aionsource.com/forum/basement/10789-attn-downadup-virus.html NOTE: a forum mod from forumfall made a post titled "downadup" today and he did not sound happy. Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries... |

My prediction...the game will turn out to be another VG.It will look great and have a lot of cool ideas, but can they get people to play it and stay in subscriptions past the first month, time will tell. http://www.youtube.com/user/Napolianboo#p/u/15/rCYLLQCNc1w |

I wouldn't be surprised if the servers were completely shut down by a DDoS attack. Actually, it's playing out much like the Diablo II DDoS attack. Major lag and disconnection issues, then complete shutdown of the servers. Blizzard even reported that 2 of their servers caught fire during the attack. When you aren't expecting them, DoS attacks are quite effective and dangerous. "I refuse to prove that I exist" says God. "For proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing..." |

Ahh SWG Pre-Cu Anarchy Online had a steeper learning curve than SWG but not by much. Hmmm both SciFi games maybe that should tell us something....Earthrise?

there was a time, when the only navigation piece you would get in game is a compass... your minimap was something that looked like this http://www.owo.com/archive/ftp/maps/u4/britmap2.gif it was made of cloth and worthy of getting mounted and framed cause it looked so cool. can you imagine the amount of cool stuff that can be stuffed into that vague at best map... Its the unknown and exploration that will truely keep people interested and digging for more. Some gamers came from games that if you didn't jot down where you were going in a dungeon you never came out. "Yeh restart the game 6 new toons" Well stepping up into games online like AC or UO, UO was all about exploration in the early days, and AC was all about the patchday hunt for new content "they acutally patch and add content all the time" Finding places like bandit castle and tou- tou for the first time were exciting. I guess it comes down to this... the more they give you, the less you use your imagination. I will say this, the requirement of an imagination to enjoy games these days just simply is not the same. The kids that play wow, just couldn't comprehend the complexity and mood a game like Darklands could throw you into on a cold winter night. I guess its my own stinkin problem that I will never in my lifetime see a computer capable of generating the kind of shit my imagination is capable of creating... who knows. |
