I agree about the community. The 'vibe' over there is absolutely horrid. The majority (from what I've seen) push back the perception of gamers from 10 years ago, as angry anti-social nerds. |

I do get the suspicion sometimes that certain people, nowhere near 90% though, dislike darkfall out of principle and think that full loot and ffa pvp are morally wrong. I hope I am wrong about this as these people would seem to not understand the boundry between game and real life.
Or turing it on its head. The promise of full loot FFA PvP is a key element in getting this game to sell loads of initial copies whilst it turns out the strict NDA / silence of developers was nothing more than a reason to cover up a very poor game. Possible ? Yes, but only a possibility.
As for the "trolls" .. aventurine poor information and lakc of openess plus defnesive snotty interviews... well most reason people are pretty annoyed / amused by this whole thing. This is fact. Face it the developers are far more interesting than the game. I'm never going to buy until the game is CONFIRMED decent and NOT a scam. |

This, and some of the fans have been reading the large number of leaks about the game that have been almost all positive, and some of the fans are in the beta, and have been in the beta for weeks, and know for themselves what this game will deliver.
There are the blindingly hopeful fans too, but then most of the troll population of DF show serious lacks of maturity, logic, knowledge about the game, knowledge of the history of the game, ability to use google, etc. |

I disagree completely. Maybe that is what you want to think, but 90% of what you call trolls are just people interested in the game but that just can't take more from Aventurine, and still wondering if a miracle can happen. |

The concept of Darkfall on paper is my dream mmo, and for years reading about it I axiously awaited it's arrival and was a huge fan and proponent of the game. However, with the countless delays and flat out lies, I've become jaded, knowing that if the game ever does come out, it will undoubtedly be rank with bugs and exploits, practically no customer sservice, and the idea of ever seeing an expansion pack is pretty much nil. My "anger", if it is that...is that crushng reality of a game I've been looking forward to for so long. And I feel sorry for the kids in this forum who didn't know what an MMO was in 2003, and are hearing about DF for the first time right now and feelign the way I did 5 years ago...and they're going to be dissappointed too.., |

I think the love/hate relationship many have with Darkfall has little to do with the game itself, or Aventurine. Most new MMOs the last 3-4 years have tried to appeal to 99% or MMO players. That makes sense of course. The more potential players, the more likely the game is to make a profit. Darkfall is aimed at the 1% who are almost always left out. That may not sound like much, but 1% of millions is still a lot of potential players. There's nothing new in Darkfall. Every single feature in the game has been tried in some form before, and a lot of them were not popular. For the 1% who see everything they miss in other games listed as a feature, it's like a revelation, though. Despite some "too good to be true" sceptisism, they want the game to finally launch, and they want it to succeed because frankly there's nothing else like it out there, and it might very well be 7 more years before someone tries to make something similar again. (Yes, I know about Mortal Online and Earthrise, but MO seems less ambitious when it comes to the "Massive" part of MMORPG", and Earthrise is Sci-Fi). Anyway, someone who sees something they've been waiting for, and hoping for for a long time almost within reach, is of course going to get defensive when someone tells them it's not going to happen. Every doom post has some truth in it. As for who wants to bash the game, and Aventurine, I can think of several. Some, are part of the 99% who are not in the target audience, and fail to see how a niche game can succeed. Some are former fans who have given up on the game years ago, and don't want to get excited about it again until they have proof that it's really coming this time, and is everything it claims to be. Most, I suspect, just like to prod at lemmings until they explode. That's human nature. |
