Hi there^^

Well the title pretty much says it all. I'm looking for a new game to play.
I've been playing WoW for 2 years and I reached endgame raid content pretty quickly. Now it has gotten boring.

Games I've played so far:

- WoW
- Lineage 2 (considering to go back but... the grind =( i've never made it past lvl 52 there)
- Ragnarok Online (I've played this for 5 years and i don't want to go back there)

I've played some more but they aren't worth listing. Here just some games i didn't like at all so you get an idea what my style is.

I didn't like:

- Warhammer Online
- Age of Conan
- LotR Online
- Guildwars
- Everquest
- In general i have a problem with most korean grinders. They do look nice but they get boring after 10 mins  but feel free to prove me wrong.
- No SiFi or Robots.

Here some requirements that i have:

- Decent Graphic and customisation options. I love the graphics from Lineage 2.
- Pretty chara- design elves and so would be nice
- not just a grinder
- nice community
- preferably none of those cheapy F2P games where Cash Items mean everything
- Fantasy Style

I hope you can help me a bit^^
thanks for reading

Hey!

You have different game playing preferences than me, but you could take a look at EQ2 or Vanguard.

You didn't specify why you liked WOW and why you didn't like Lotro and EQ so it's difficult to come up with a firm recommendation.

Well Im sorry to say but WoW is the best available right now, sure the content is rather a joke but what to do.
Its a nice community, has charming graphics and nice gameplay.

Something that you probably will like since you've played Lineage 2 is Aion that is also made by the same company (NCsoft) and will be out in the next few months (Mars I beleive, cant remember). Also Darkfall, allthough that is all about PvP I think.

I say Final Fantasy Online. It use to be very much a grind to end game but now it doesn't seem like it since they added some stuff. I left 2 years ago and i'm glad I came back earlier this year, I also was playing WoW and War. You get a 14-day trial now also if you want to check it out.

How about city of  heroes/villiains , damn fine community, lots to do and teaming is never a problem...you would probably get annoyed with the amount of team invites you get :p

Don't know if you can run it?

well ^^ thanks for the replies. I know that i'm kind of picky with games.

I guess i just liked WoW because of its possibilities. It's a well made game that gives alot of freedom to the players. It's just a pitty that 95% of the community sucks and endgame got boring for me ^^"

hmm.. About EQ, you might call me superficial but i could never get along with it's graphics. I prefer anime style generally. The style of WoW also didn't appeal to me at the first place but when they put blood elfs ingame i was quite satisfied

Edit: I guess i'll try out FF-Online ^^ I didn't try  that one yet

I'd have to say Vanguard as well, didn't see it listed there. Game has good graphics, but personally not sure on content.

Aaaah! Where are all the good mmo's!?

Aion, but you'll have to wait a while :(

Looks very L2ish with less grind.

I agree with final fantasy online as being a good choice, but according to your preferences maybe you should be watching for some new titles that are being released in 2009.  There's lots of mmorpg potential to look forward to.  It may be worth holding on a bit longer before committing yourself.  Look into games like Aion, Darkfall, or anything else that catches your interests.  Do as you must, good luck and good gaming to you.

I just started downloading FF-Online.
Yep, Aion is definetly something i'm looking forward to. It looks as if it would fit my style pretty well.  I'll definetly give it a try once it's out

thanks again for the fast replies ^^

If you try out Final Fantasy Online I'm on the server Diabolos and my name is Cediz. I could help you out a bit when needed and give advice. You just have to google "FFXI free trial" and it will take you to the fileplanet site where you can download it. I'll see you in game maybe if you check it out, if you don't hope you find something you can enjoy :)

edited: sorry for the late reply guess you beat me with the above post...anyways, Aion looks great but that's not coming out for a while so FFXI will keep you pretty busy until then as I'm also waiting for that one ^.^

Alright, firstly, let me say in this game while it is F2P, it isn't "Cheapy", cash-shop items do make a difference, but are certainly not required. "Mabinogi", a game that i've been playing since it was released now is the only game i've played longer then a week since Ultima Online.

I will say that I am VERY picky when it comes to MMORPG, i'm not the type to set my standards lower because the Genre isn't capable of an experience like most games.

Key Features of Mabinogi (In my opinion):

Semi-Sandbox - While not a full sandbox, and there are levels, levels for the most part don't matter, and a level 1 is more then capable of taking out pretty much any enemy. Skills are what really matters

Do What You Want - Crafting is very useful, and can pull you in quite a bit of money once your skills are high enough, crafting requires little to no fighting to do, and is a lot of fun in my opinion. That isn't the only thing, there are other "Life" skills like Music Composition, and Playing which allows you to compose your own music (Definitely easier with external programs like 3ML or Maki-Mabi Sequencer), and once those two and Knowledge are raised high enough can be used to buff teammates, which is very useful.

A lot of Customization: While premium character cards offer more, there's quite a bit of customization, and Clothing is where it's at. Armor makes next to no difference, so find stuff you look good in, as opposed to fight good in.

A few things to remember:

To max a lot of skills, it is a good thing to "Rebirth" your character every couple months, which is a cash-shop item (Character cards), while it is a cash-shop, this is the only item that really makes much a difference, and overall it's a lot cheaper to play then P2P MMOs, and I find it a lot more fun.

This is not Triple-A, there are not a lot of quest, but it is a sandbox MMO, so you can do what you want when you want.

It is more geared towards a "Fantasy Life" then a game, it is meant to be a persistent world to meet people in, not a game to grind levels and do end-game raids and such.

Hello Sil, hi all,

Three titles come to mind (I omit Ryzom which has according to many - including me - the best community of all; I do not list it because it is mostly sandbox...still I would try the free Silan trial).

 1) EQ2 is *nothing* like EQ in my view. It has the same basic fantasy theme but the graphics are *infinitely* better and still require quite a good PC (I have a quad/ultra 8800 etc) to run full throttle. Graphics are in my view as good as AoC and that means: the best there are. From a *technical* point of view that is.

The gameplay in EQ2 is where it differs from EQ; it is much more diverse, more solo-able, and from housing to crafting to exploration all aspects have been given a lot of thought. It has rather long travelling times and the fighting is fun but not particularly challenging. Still - world design is excellent and interface by far the best I have ever seen, anywhere, for anyting. Try one of the 2 free trials?

2) CoX (City of Heroes/Villains; Good vs Evil package I would suggest) is in my view, from a 'neutral' point if that is at all feasible, the best MMORPG so far. It started very simple but is now so diverse and large and engaging that the *only* bad things I can say about it are a) no player housing yet (but bases you can design...) b) repetitive *maps* at times and c) graphics a bit outdated (but very well done and highly immersive). I have *no* affinity for super heroes but a friend talked me into it at the start and I have been back 3 times so far. Excellent combat (always different; high enemy AI). Missions will get you from 1 to 50 without a second's grind (heroes anyway; vils need bit more content post 40).

3) You say Anime style - the one game I did not like much at start, that I did not expect to grab me, just got me completely convinced it is one of the 3 best MMORPG I have seen (played around 40-45). It is Atlantica Online, and surprises me on a daily basis (I spend hours learning things and still have oodles ahead of me). I am 57 (max is 120) with one toon and still get Tutorial quests. Basically it the character customization is the weakest part. No housing but it is quite new and it is extremely well thought out, well tested, and quite big. One big main quest line level 1-120. Side quests along way.  It has umpteen systems I have never seen before. Sharing Monster or Crafting Info; taking Apprentice; finding Treasure Chests ad infinitum. It has, oddly perhaps but very effectively, Turn-Based Combat (for an MMORPG that is quite unique) and believe it or not, it is free to play.

It is the first game ever where I did not *need* to buy anything...but did. I never liked the real-money systems much; this one is good you cannot buy uber-swords but just mounts and licenses etc. I spent 80 bucks there so far, mostly just to support the team (but I enjoy the things I purchased).

All these games are free or have free trials I think. Ought to keep you off the streets for a bit!

Good luck, wherever you go. If you have questions: I will keep eye on this thread for short while.

Lucas

thanks to you 2 for those long replies.

@zidane01970 I'm also downloading Mabinogi. My best friend always tried to convince me that Ultima Online is still the best game in the world (he plays it since release) but I just can't get along with the graphics even tho they got reworked =( From the possibilities Mabinogi seems to be a lot like Ultima Online. I'm really looking forward to give it a try.

@Morpgeus I''ve tried atlantica online. The lack of customisation wasn't so nice even tho the game itself is pretty. I only did a few quests and then logged off. I think the turn based battle system doesn't fit my playstyle. But after your post i'll definetly give it another try aswell.

thanks again ^^

try the Vanguard free trial

FFXI has the WORST interface out of all the major MMOs that i've tried.  totally unplayable to me.  no mouselook, no WASD type movement, no way to configure controls.  no in-game way to change graphic settings (and they look extremely pixelicious) and you can only make i think 2 characters with a normal subscription.  every extra character after that costs an extra $1 per month.

The End
---------------------------
i don't expect to like Darkfall, altho i may like it MORE than other MMOs. i know it is gonna have a very frustrating level of grind to it, even if its significantly less than most. waiting for a pure FAST action virtual world. dice rolling & character levels (even "skills") IN COMBAT should have never carried over from pencil & paper to a computer that can reasonably model 3D spaces and objects

Other than the grinders you don't say what you didn't like about the others. That really makes it hard.

As others have said, EQ 2 or Vanguard might work.

Sil, all,

If you get on the Argos server in Atlantica, put Muzzlepuzzle, Oddballs & Arctick on your friends list. I will do the mentor thing if you like and am happy to inform you that the peeps I give some info and show some sights usually are switched from 'Hmm what's this' to 'Oh that's all very promising' in no time flat.

So if you want to give that another chance: I will help you get through the somewhat 'flat' first part; does not take long at all.

I was never much of a pet-player but this Mercenary system really does make for very interesting combats. It gets highly varied (even if you have a full Merc team, you will want to do Quests for better 'grade' mercenaries that offer even more fun) and there are so very many items that can be used to make your own style...well...it's defo one of those games that take a bit to grab you, but when it's got you, that's it :)

I would play it until level 15 (or rather, until you get to do a few Beijing quests) at least; if at that point it does not appeal, you should probably choose something else.

A few short ones on EQ2 & CoX: the Trials will allow you to get a very good notion on EQ2. There is of course much more (like the excellent crafting; in this game *all* crafters are invaluable) but if you don't like The Trial of the Isle I think you can safely assume it may not be your game.

CoX is different. The longer you play (at least until level 14 when you get your Super Move Power; there is no game *remotely* as much fun where travelling is concerned that I know of) the more you find out that you should not grind, not street-hunt: do your missions and you will get from 'What's this all about?' to 'Damn but this is one fun game!' quite fast. No game I have ever seen has anything like the Story Arcs that prevail in City of Heroes. You are a hero(ine), and you will feel like one.

Good luck and safe travels,

Lucas

Like others have mentioned sounds to me like City of Heroes would fit you quite well, (apart from the Fantasy bit) there is no other game that comes anywhere near its ability to design the look of your character.

I play DDO and that seems to have a high female population, mainly couples, but I couldn't tell you why. If you liked WoW as a MMO it is about as different as you can get though.
