Hello everyone!

Today Aion Team released a new patch which introduced some interesting changes to the current automatic bot penalty system in Aion. I just finished translating the article on my blog.

I will be playing Aion at NA release, and look forward to the game. I think it will be extremely stable as far ast populations as it's proving now. But reading the way the system was described, it sounded like a "mini-game", lol.

1) “Automatic Bot penalty system” has been improved.

- Original: You can only report 1 player every 30 min
- Change: Now you get 10 report points, so you can report up to 10 players using the “Automatic Bot report” function!

This was just a small cut, but this was some of what got me laughing.

Kidding aside, it does look like an extensive overhaul and I'm sure by the time it hits NA, any real bugs in it would already been flushed.

Good job so far.. keep plugging!

What keeps a group of people from reporting a single person to abuse the system?

I.E. Me and my group kills some mobs another group wanted so someone in their group will all report a single person in my group causing that person to raise in penalty stages so that person must leave.

1) In order report the same player again you need to wait for 30 mins
2) You cannot use the report function in the 2 major cities
3) Once you have been applied a penalty stage due to accumulating reports, you can’t report other players anymore.
4) You cannot report the enemy race

- Additions
1) You cannot use the report functionality in abyss
2) If you have reported a player, you can’t report the same player again for 30 mins, including:
A) Using a different character on the same account
B) Different account on the same IP
C) Players of the same guild

3) The restrictions when entering a penalty stage have been further increased

1) When entering penalty stage 3, forming parties is not possible anymore
2) If you are in a party when entering stage 3, the party will automatically be disbanded

Hoo boy, i can see this shit hit the fan hehe. Imagine:

Random Parties can fuck over guild parties with this...

Random party: Lets disband and all report this one person then form up again and theyll have no healer in there group giving us the area.

*goes to action*

Guild Party: hey lets get revenge, all leave guil... owait..

Im optimistic in NCsoft actually trying thou, if we had this kind of devotion in Lineage2 3 years ago, daaamn would i still be playing!

Well thats easy... because if you get caught abusing it you will be punished as well (there is a warning about that before you file the report).

Also it will be no problem if some players report someone... because you can be sure that you need many reports till you will move into a higher penalty stage  - so I don't think this will be really abused.

Let's see how it evolves, so far it looks very promising though.

As others have said, I think we just have to wait and see how it works. It could be something that could be abused by players, on the other hand, I'm all for encouraging players to help with the bot problem.

There will always be the children trying to "get even", but eventually they will get caught for it. If Aion goes to IP bans or something, that should be the end of them after they've been exposed. Kids who do that type of thing usually aren't very computer literate and will be tossed quick.

You don't need to be computer literate to figure out how to get around an IP ban.  If you can figure out how to use Google.com then you'll get all the information you need.

You don't need to be computer literate to figure out how to get around an IP ban.  If you can figure out how to use Google.com then you'll get all the information you need.

The "kids" doing what the other guy suggested are not the type to do research, save for maybe porn and pictures of people dying on the internet. They are not usually flexible in thinking or able to see things through. If this were the case, they'd simply move on when someone came into their zone to kill things.

I don't think they are capable of finding the info even if it were tattoed onto their eyeballs. I'm sure they wouldn't know how to implement it if they somehow could locate it. Their stupidity and low intellect shows in harrassing people in the first place over polygons.

In any event, these will be very rare types of cases I would think.

A lot of north american ISP's don't allow for dynamic IP's. I really like my ISP...I test at 15mbits, ping under 100ms at servers across the ocean, no bandwidth limit...and the only other option for me here is crappy DSL. I can't change my IP without changing my ISP, and I'm not willing to play on a proxy everyday jsut becuase I got banned before.

There are ALOT of people that take competetive to serious, and will use any loopholes.

Ohboy are you in for a rude awakening.

Its becouse IP banning wont work, that it cant and will not be used.

A system like that is used to lessen the work on the moderators (or in this case make work that would not be done, done by the users). However, they will have to put some serious early punishment on the ones that abuse, so the people that would want to abuse it feel that theres a fair chance theyll get cought.

Now if they dont do this early it will go rampant and they will never be able to catch up (sure they can ban alot, but it will be alreay to big so most get away).

And well, i will not be convinced NCsoft West will be able to handle this unthill i see it with my own eyes. Dont get me wrong i Love NCsoft, i just do not really trust em with handeling the userbase and cheaters that good outside Korea.

Based on what's been happening with L2 since their formation, I've got a fair amount of confidence in NCsoft West.

I didnt say people aren't going to use proxies, but you make it act like IP banning is almost useless. I highly doubt that more than half of the people who get IP banned would come back with a proxy and/or new IP. Especially in a game with soulbound items where you cant just ebay some currency and buy gear like you would in L2.
