he says there is only a certain number of places. how will these be given out? first come first serve so keep checking main site over next few days to sign up? or will they be choosing from already recieved beta applications? will forum status get you in or is it just random? I hope its not, but kind of expect it to be just a trial for the forum vets and general rabid fanboys who they know will not be as negative even if its a pile of crap. anybody know? also NDA is not mentioned and it is not called open beta so I'm pretty sure it will be bound by NDA. which makes this "free trial" basically more closed beta testing. |

I'm sure it will be a first come, first serve thing. And it is free, why it needs quotations I dunno. And Fans will prolly get in first mainly due to the fact they would be the first to apply? Kinda commen sense there. |

I hope they take just fans, even if it means I don't get in. I'm sick of trying to discuss the game on these forums only to be drowned out by trolls in every thread. Asdar |

I think it's become a bit confusing for a lot of people. It's been called a free trial, open beta, public beta, etc. The quotations are probably warranted unless you want to double check the official post. We're gamers! Notoriously lazy! |

Friends, family and paid shills will be getting access. |

the official announcement says nothing. no clue how many people or whether it will be NDA bound or how people get in. the DF fanboys as usually presume alot more than is said. I think this is just closed beta worded to keep the fans silent. |

Per Tasos's Darkfall Release Schedule post on January 15th, 2009 (red and bolded emphasis is mine):
Starting on January 22nd there will be a Darkfall trial with the distribution of the release candidate client allowing thousands of players to sample the game for free, help us stress test our servers and test the final features of the game. It’s important to understand that there are well over 200 thousand applications by players wanting to get into Darkfall. This number makes it unrealistic to distribute the client and to open up our servers to everyone. We’ll try to accommodate as many players as are possible for us to manage at this stage. Even so, the demand exceeds our current capacity. Interest in Darkfall has surpassed all our expectations to the point that we may need to manage our release differently. Based on those comments, we can surmise the following

Really, they said they would have an open trial on the 22nd. Open implies access to anyone, without NDA, and without some silence clause. People need to quite reading into everything how they want, and just take some words at face value. I'm no fanboy, but i'm looking forward to this game, and hope it succeeds. But with the innumerable amount of morons, trolls, and haters who, for some reason beyond me, wish to see this, or any game they dislike for some arbitrary reason to fail, need to just shut the hell up. Seriously. You provide no meaningful content to the discussion or the game, and honestly, your alls actions have had a backwards effect in increasing the desire to see this game. It's funny, honestly, your hard work and determination has gone so far as to make the thing you hate even more popular. The free trial is on the 22nd. They said they will take as many as their servers can handle. And that release will be the 25th of Feb. Shush up, wait, and see. |

I took those words at face value. Also, not sure where in forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php they use the term "open trial", but I am perfectly capable of having overlooked it. Closest I could find was "Starting on January 22nd there will be a Darkfall trial". No mention as to the level of 'openness'

I have Darkfall now! |
If we think smart about this. Aventurine had 22th Januari for launch. But they couldent get beverything ready (publisher, servers stress test, billing, whatever) and they want atlest something to happen on the 22th. So they open up the beta even more. Aventurine could just have said delay to 25th of februari, and nothing more. So this will hopefully be a win win for everyone. Ok, it would be better if it had launched on the 22...but now it isnt so. And a few thousands more beta players will bring more or less leaks (reviews)? What do you think? : ) |

And as an MMO, you should EXPECT there to be delays. And by the way, your link failed. |

exactly. and we have fanboys all happy because they think it will be open. my bet is 22nd will pass and the only info we will get is off leak sites. |

Originally posted by JKnight1 You contradict yourself. It can't be open to everyone and have limited access. Regardless, you're wrong in your opening sentence. In fact, it's obvious you've done exactly what you're ranting about - "reading into everything how you want". Read my post above. It's very clear that the trial will not be open, based on actual quotes from Tasos and Brannoc. ~Ripper |

It is still open, if limited. Closed would mean invite only. They did not state it would be invite only. They also said it would be OPEN, thus, an NDA would go against that. People need to just learn to wait and watch instead of make up conjecture and opinion based on words and info given, no matter how large or little. They said open trial to as many as they can. That doesn't say to me "Invite Only". It says "First come, first serve". That's what I expect. I expect to see something the 22nd. They havn;t said anything to the contrary, past history aside. Just deal with the fact that *gasp* the game you revile so much is near it's coming.
Edit: I said anyone, not everyone. Anyone meaning any player who wishes to try it, not just beta applicants, friends/family, etc. Everyone would mean all could try it without limit. BIG difference. |

Again, I am having trouble finding "first come, first serve" in the announcement at forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php. Where was this said? Where did they say it was open? As I understand, you need to apply and then, if you are selected, you will be invited to participate in the limited trial. Are the sceptics really the only ones "making up conjecture and opinion"? -mklinic "There's a point I think we're missing. |

Common sense? 90% of trolls have no common sense, as their antics and actions have only increased the popularity and interest in the very game they seek to destroy. Common sense would tell them to shut the hell up. Gullible imbeciles? The only person gullible here is those who read way too much into every word a developer or poster says. No one has bought any pre-order, as there has been none for sale yet. And as far as we know, there will be no charge for the trial since they said free. And the fact that it's coming the 22nd. |
Originally posted by JKnight1 If it's not invite only, then there's absolutely no reason to continue accepting beta applications, much less encourage applications, as Brannoc implicitly does in his statements on January 17th. 2009, where he tells applicants how to resolve application errors . The fac that they're still accepting applications means that they're going to manage the invitation process. Nowhere in Tasos' statement does he state that the trial will be "open". Once again, you're doing exactly what you're accusing others of, "reading into it" to reach the conclusion you want. ~Ripper |

They will take ALL they can. They never said it was an apply/select basis. Taking ALL they can obviously means as many as they can before it closes/crashes. Which means first come, first serve. It's rather obvious. |

Whatever, you all are morons who just desire this game to die so your precious little games like WoW and LotrO and other simplistic, hold-your-hand-so-you-don't-scrape-your-knee games can survive. It's too bad a mature, complicated, no holds barred, survival of the fittest game wants to come in, and make our genre of gaming what it used to be. I'll enjoy my time in the free trial on the 22nd, whilst you haters and deniers, and doubters all sit and cry as the beast rears it's head and torches your kiddy game. Ta ta. |
