I think its time to play the classic game of "Guess that Troll Alt".

Faelsun has 30 posts and most of them are trolling WoW, so whose banned WoW hater alt is Faelsun?

I actually think its quite amazing people can hate a video game this much. Success really does breed contempt.

UO and EQ had no meaningful competition, come to think of it neither does WoW!

Couldn't agree more.

I am happy everyone plays the same game until something better comes along. As long as Wow grows it means nothing worthwhile is out there. 4000 nerds on this site are not going to change what people like.

And it has to be .... better. Simple statement.

For those wanting to play some marginal interesting and underdevelopped trash (because it's just another puppet to control in a closed setting with less gaming value)  have fun. Sandbox or theme park.

It is so much easier to speak of "group balance" than have a controllable PvP rating system. It is so much easier to have a screen loading picture instead of developping a real 3D world.

It is so much easier hyping an underdevelopped mess than deliver a simple fun game...

So do not blame Wow there is no alternative of the same polished quality. So it grows. Logical.

I havent played WOW in 2 years.

Wow itself will start to decline soon, but blizzard will be ok with thier new rumored MMo to come out in the future.

people keep saying 'wow will start to decline soon'.. and yet it keeps announcing new records and releasing new servers.  If WOW grew during the launch of warhammer and AOC, who both spent millions on advertising, there is nothing in the near future that is at all a threat to WOW.  Probably the next possible threat is Bioware, which is 2+ years away.

I suspect the next sleeper hit will come from a small developer who isn't restricted by big corporate gaming execs or tied into some licensed IP.  Not to say they won't do well in any sense.

My hopes lay with something along the lines of 38studios project, metaplace from raph koster or something along those lines.  Someone who isn't afraid to shake things up and try something new or even reinvent something already done.

It won't happen until we start seeing gamers passionate about making games given enough freedom to do what they do best.

Since sleeper hit will probably be forced to be from a small company as the other games get much too much coverage I can probably agree with that :)

No way Blizz's next MMO will be a sleeper hit, if anything a "WIDE AWAKE HIT" probably, lol.

The next hit MMO is not guaranteed to be from a big studio ruled by corporate executives, based on a popular existing franchise or some indie run by gamers for gamers.

The next hit MMO will be one that delivers on the essentials, makes good on it's promises and support is at least half competent.

Hopefully 2008 is the last of the big budget, half assed, buggy messes that developers try and pass off as MMOs.

There are other games too, Guildwars 2 is made by the first head programmer from Wow, an open world with good GFX without monthly fees. First GW is still the second best selling MMO after Wow and it was made on a low budget, this game wont be that. GW is still the second biggest MMO on X-fire too, GW will come out in a year or so.

And CCP are making "World of darkness online", the IP have many fans (Vampire the masquerade have sold millions) and don't underestimate those Icelandic.

The problem with WAR and AoC was that the companies just wanted to copy Wow and there is already a Wow so any attempt to do that will fail. The 2 listed games above will make their own way,to be honest I believe that if Blizzard themselves copy Wow they will fail also, people will continue to play Wow then. Only a new and different game actually stands the chanse to become the next big one.

Another thing is that Wow can slowly decline without any game taking it's place, the people could just move away to FPS. The X-fire statistic is lower now than after WOTLK release whatever that means, it have been very stable for the last month however so right now is Wow neither losing or gaining players. There are a logical maximum how many players a game can get and Wow must be close to that, most intrested people are already playing it.

Personally I think Wow will be about the same for another year, +-2 millions but no truly big change, after that the game will start to drop, Nothing last forever and even if Wow lost every single sub tomorrow it would still be the most succesful game in gaming history. 5 years is a long time for a computer game so I just dont see the game continue for 5 more ('cept for few fans like UO and EQ) unless the do a total revamp of the game soon, and to be honest I think Blizz are putting the work in the next game instead.

I would tend to agree with the general agreement that only "Blizzard can kill Wow" based on how competent a company they are. They are just too smart and have too much experience handling MMOs that came along to worry in the future. Wow will continue to grow and thrive due to word of mouth amongst everyday ordinary folks until Blizzard decides to make another game better than Wow.

Simply because of market awareness the game will thrive for many years. Morons call it "kiddie", but Blizzard knows its real target audience is adults, and most of those that are over 25ish.

There is a reason they used Ozzy Osbourne, Mr.T, William Shatner for national TV campaigns in the US. The average adult today can identify with them all. The average kid under 18 cannot identify with Mr.T. He has no idea what the "A-team" is or how big it really was. The average kid knows Jean Luc Picard, not Capt. Kirk or TJ Hooker, etc. And the average kid today only knows Ozzy because of their parents. He didn't make anything music worthy in the last decade, its just a rehash of his greatest hits. So why'd they pick those three guys? Simple... Blizzard wanted to send a message to adults that "Wow is so easy to play, even a 70's icon can use it".

So Blizzard purposely chose those guys for a reason. Adults know who they are. They are way smarter than the average hater understands.

"You know, you have such a stunningly superficial knowledge of what went on that it's almost embarrassing to listen to you." Zbigniew Brzezinski to Joe Scarborough regarding Clinton and the Middle East on the "Morning Joe" program.

wows gonna be pretty healthy for years to come . i m going to return to it for a month now and then but to be honest the pvp since the lich king was released is a mess . class imbalances are at thier worst ever .pve is still fun though  . if you are thinking of playing on a pvp server roll a rogue or paladin lol its tantamount to being immortal in wow these days.

See the most important factor is NOT that WotLK is already 3 months number 1, The most important factor is that basic Wow battlechest is in the top 5.

4 years old and always in that top 5 of PC games. It beats anything new on the market.

Every day a massive amount of new players who play it for 2 years straight.

That's because it is a good game (long term playings) and word of mouth publicity.

if your new to the game wow has about 6-18 months of decent gameplay . depending on how much time you spend in game . the endgame a present for pve gamers is ok if your like to repeat things over again and again instance wise . the pvp side of the game is the worst i ve ever seen it . horrendous class imablances , little interest in the battlegrounds , terrible lag in world pvp. lets remember theres plenty of people that hav nt seen the content some of us have so its all new to them . wows core game is a lot of fun . the endgame is essentially broken at present . which is the reason i gave up . as for other mmos i m just doing the odd month on things like warhammer , lord of the rings and city of heroes . i really dont think they are worth spending much time in any one of them anymore . wow is like ivy its strangled the genre and made it boring .

PvP in Wow rocks, because of the different choices of PvP. Period.

Arena deliver the stats on which balance can be based. Some cry Warlocks are under represented in today's arena top teams of the .... last 3 weeks?

Well patch 3.08 is already rocking on the PTR and guys like you saying PvP in Wow is unbalanced are a joke.

Why? Because the whole world looks at the top Arena players and can see for themselves where balance problems are by sheer data and results.

The same for the crying of lack of resilience. The Arena is there to watch the data and correct it.

In other "pvp" games it"s the develoipper that says: our classes are balanced and not a single player can come up with data.

I always laugh at world PvP made by others.

WotLK gives you multiple realm fights per night with hundreds of players around a Siege Keep. Other games just crash or limit the numbers of players to .... 48.

----> No other MMORPG comes even close to the total fluid control of you basic avatar .... and that's the first condition for a PvP based game....

be it in Arena or BG's. Those willing to fight in the "grey masses of uncontrolled world PvP" can always choose Wintergrasp with tanks and siege engines.

CHOICES that's what Wow is all about always.

Choices you don't have in those other games.

That's why you play Wow for 2 years and others for one month.

Interesting observation and I tend to agree with you.  I think the age demographic is getting older as the game gets easier.  The game is 4 years old and still alive and kicking.  That doesn't happen by accident.  Personally though I'm having a tough time staying interested these days.  After 4 years I'm ready for something new, but it won't be an MMO.  Hopefully this will be the year of the RTS.  I'm looking forward to Dawn of War 2 and Starcraft 2.

Oh man, it's gonna be great, first couple of months, even I will be able to win some matches, and then, well then I'll just wait for my lovely zerg expansion.

wows pvp is funzstuff but others pvp is really harder to master for me. I get a level range in wow and have my 4 buttons and I am ready to go to war with fast button push push. wow toons are easy to use but thats because in wows it is very easy to fight, honestly very basic anyway. WAR is same though no way it is much harder on war than wow, just no jumping throuhg others is all you just hit them and land but really similar.

Still harder to kick butt on Asherons call or Guild Wars than wow, honest now wow good pve game but no way so good as these games for killing competition.wow is good game but don't be silly now.

lol what a load of rubbish . you d would have to be a little blind deaf and dumb ( with the emphasis on dumb) to actually think its balanced . erm i noticed you use the word crying in your post ( about lack of resilance ) . it leads me to think your quite young . possibly in the 10 -14 years age group, come your not 53 your 13 arnt you ? . you see most people above that age range dont use the phrase unless they are little slow if you know what i mean . wows pvp in the past has been great and proberbly will be great again but its not good at the moment . i like wow but i m not stupid , brainwashed or immature enough to think the games pvp is in good shape at the moment . the people you talk about crying about the pvp proberbly are actually complaining about real imbalances in the game . either that or you work for blizzard lol

Wow has now 3 products (WotLK, sub cards, Wow Chest,) in the top 10 of all PC games (hourly updated)

And even today they launched new servers to their game .....

I can pretty much state for sure that there will be 12 million active PAYING subscribers in the first quarter of this year.

At least I got some references

:))

im sure this won't happen, yes sure wotlk will bring in lots of people, but wotlk is pretty the same old thing, and to me it's even worse than TBC.

Launching Deathknights was a horrible decision, by Blizzard, making the classes even more inbalanced than it was before. Because its so OP everyone is rerolling their class to deathknights and now half of all the people in a bg is a deathknight.

In Pve people are getting pissed, because everyone is now rolling on the same items since crit and spell crit is the same thing now, spell dmg and spell healing is the same thing 2, ect.

Sure alot of people joined, because of Wotlk, but many are finding out wotlk is just same old same old. And that its just not challegening enough.

To many people wotlk was a very big disappointment, it took about a week or 2 to get to lvl 80 playing around 20 hours a week, depending on whether u were geared or not in pve or pvp.

The only really good thing that came out of it was siege battles.

In other "pvp" games it's the developper that says: our classes are balanced and not a single player can come up with data.

That's why you play Wow for 2 years and others for one month.

lol what a load of rubbish . you d would have to be a little blind deaf and dumb ( with the emphasis on dumb) to actually think its balanced . erm i noticed you use the word crying in your post ( about lack of resilance ) . it leads me to think your quite young . possibly in the 10 -14 years age group, come your not 53 your 13 arnt you ? . you see most people above that age range dont use the phrase unless they are little slow if you know what i mean . wows pvp in the past has been great and proberbly will be great again but its not good at the moment . i like wow but i m not stupid , brainwashed or immature enough to think the games pvp is in good shape at the moment . the people you talk about crying about the pvp proberbly are actually complaining about real imbalances in the game . either that or you work for blizzard lol

The problem these days is that people no longer READ what someone else writes.

Therefore .....

I made the important part RED in my text above:

and I repeat it once more:

The Arena is there to watch the data and correct it.

In other "pvp" games it's the developper that says: our classes are balanced and not a single player can come up with data.

And players can see for themselves which classes win more matches and end up front

Drums.....: enter the patches based on those stats to balance the game. .... understood  (finally) ? Patch 3.08 is rolling in already.

You can find ALL classes in the top of Arena teams. Some combos and classes more than others, but at least we have a system that allows to check upon it.

And I can find ANY class in Arena with 2100+ rating, which means the GOOD players are there with their class.

So stop whining because obviously you are not in the same league as them.

You fail big.

But yeah, you are right.  Every class and spec is represented in the top ratings.
