So I've been going back and forth with EVE and finally decided to subscribe a few days ago.  I was still slightly skeptical but still felt like I would end up loving it.  Well, I decided to take my little Condor into low-sec.  I just went from roid belt to roid belt looking for someone to pirate or NPCs to rat.  Well, I end up warping into one system and notice tons of wrecks near the stargate.  Yet there weren't any other players around.  I decide to take the risk and try to loot some stuff.  Check one wreck, nothing, check a cargo container and suddenly am filling my cargohold with tons of loot.  The entire time, I'm incredibly scared of someone coming through the gate and getting me.  Almost finished looting and I hear the gate firing up as someone jumps through.  For a few seconds, I am terrified because they very well could have pwned me.  Yet they decide to warp away and I jump back to high-sec, get to a station and start selling my loot.  Those few seconds are what made me finally start to understand EVE.  The amount of risk involved is so great but that makes it exciting making you wonder if you'll get away with it.  I wasn't so lucky trying this experiment in 0.0 sec as I ended up getting gatecamped on my way out (had a nice piece of loot too ) but it was still exciting to see if I could make it out of there before I got destroyed.

I've had similar experiences in other games, mostly FPS.  I would be in a scrim in CS, last man left as a CT with the bomb down somewhere with 3-4 T's still left.  I would just be completely terrified as the time counts down in the round wondering if I would make it and having a few try to kill me, and just barely managing to survive and win the round.  I love these sorts of things where you're just so on edge.  Never thought I could compare EVE to an FPS game.

Don't worry about what people think, they rarely do.

The person that jumped through the gate was probably just as scared to see you there as you were of them coming through, and just as relieved to get away.

Always check the map for ships or pods destroyed in the last hour before you jump through a gate that could be camped.

Great story M8

Yes, you have reached enlightenment.

Its that rush, the moment of sheer excitement and terror that we live for in every fight in EVE.  Everything is on the line, its kill or be killed, and winners take all.

When you lose, you hate it, but when you win, there's nothing quite like that feeling in most games.

Can you imagine what I would do if I could do all I can?

Wish the adrenaline rush would still kick in but even after 200 versus 200 0.0 warfare, I'm now calm and just doing what has to be done...

Not saying it's not fun anymore... just loved those first few days in 0.0 where everything felt dangerous. As I learned to stay alive and got into a powerhouse alliance, things got smoother and smoother... now I don't even want to go back to high sec and low where I live is safer then high sec anyway lol...

In the end, I'll always stick with FPS games for a high amount of adrenaline rush. :)

I can see the adrenaline rush eventually not kicking in as much, but hopefully by then I'll just get a great feeling of satisfaction from accomplishing ingame goals.

A battle is won but the war rages on.

wow ... just wow ... FPS games give you adrenaline rushes when you dont lose anything, but being primaried while in your brand new  200mil BS doesnt?.

Tbh I do not get any adrenaline rushes in almost all games since I started gaming, expecialy FPS.

P.S Not my intention to bash... kinda curios.

As much as I try, and four back and forth attempts to get into the game later, I still don't get it. Part of it is there being far too much logistics, somtimes days of it, before any of these "adrenaline" moments. Mainly though I think it's because Eve is too sandboxy without being sandboxy enough. That is to say, there's no direction, and because of that you're free to do what you want, but doing what you want only consists of trading, fighting, or farming money to do either of those. If they ever get station docking and avatars going that aspect will become much more fleshed out for once and maybe I'll try hopping back for a bit, but at the moment I can't make any attachment to my pilot or my ship, which makes it very hard to get attached to the game.

Yeah the rush is cool.  I quit though because it became more of a job than a game.  And I got tired of losing ships I couldn't afford to lose.  Not my fault my corp had suicide gangs. ><
