I just got finished putting a build together and everything works smoothly.  I had an old processor that I had and put it into this motherboard since i didnt have enough money at the time to purchase a new one, so i figured i'd over clock it.  its a 2.4Ghz intel core 2 duo, i over clocked it to 2.7 ( nothign drastic, just f*ckin around with it ).  I then logged on, right click My Computer and go to properties where it gives you the run down of the system.  It shows I've over clocked it, but then it shows that its only reading 2.5gigs of ram.. I have two 2gig sticks in my motherboard at duel channel.. I havent done anything yet, but im prob going to set the CMOS back to default and see if thats the case.  But if that doesnt work, should I test both ram stick individually? and If they both work properly, is it my motherboard? Maybe its something totally different.  What I'm really wondering is if anyone has had similar problems.

Any help is highly appriciated.  thanks guys.

32 bit OS can only read up to 3.75 gb of ram including vram.

As of right now, I'm probably using a 32-bit.  I cheap out sometimes ( I'm sorry, its just so hard to save money ) Using 32-bit Windows would only be able to read 2.5 gigs?

considering that it will count the video ram, yes. to use all the ram on the cheap (free) and get dx 10 you can use server 2008 64 bit. it is a free download from microsoft and the trial lasts 250 days. most of us pc nerds re-install before then anyway.

Just hold out till Windows 7.  2gig vs 4 gig's isn't that crucial anyway.   Vista is fine and good and all, but Windows 7 has a rock solid beta build right now.

Perhaps a stupid question, but what motherboard are you using? Many only recognize 2 gigs total ram.

Its a sweet motherboard, I just purchased the nForce 780i from EVGA.  Very nice to overclock with.  And there should be no reason why this motherboard isn't reading all the ram.  Its probably the windows.  I'm going to be using the beta of windows 7, I just had a hard time downloading it off my mozilla browser, then someone informed me to use my IE, so I'll go with that.  Until I get home from work I can start this download, but until then..

Lemme guess, you have a video card with about 512megs of ram on it?  There's the 'missing' ram.  Video adaptor ram is taken into account first by the OS.  Then system ram.

Your 2 video cards are using up 1 gig of your total memory, as are your l2 cache, sound card, etc...

You need a 64 bit operating system to utilize more than 3GB of ram. Don't listen to what anyone tells you about PAE or 3 gig switch..to get performance out of 4GB or more ram, you need a 64 bit OS, period.

If you are using Vista, upgrade to 64 bit, because its actually faster than 32 bit. If you are using XP, you may want to just keep it the way it is...depending on what games you play and what system specs you have (if its not a beast), you could very well end up with less performance than you would with Vista usin gall 4 gigs of ram.

Agreed.  I've still need to take out my dvd burner out of my other PC and install it into this new one to burn the ISO of Windows 7  64bit.  Hopefully then I'll be crankin'.
