So I decided to take the leap of faith and bought LotRo and MoM. I installed the DVD easily enough and it went through a couple of update files and restarted. Then I find it updating and the figure is 26000+ files, admittedly it is around 1 second for each file but its now 2.5 hours and its about half way through. Am I doing something wrong? Was there a major file I could download from the site first? Or is this normal? Just a bit paranoid because I stopped it once around 600 files thinking it would start at 601 later but it started back at 1. So I so hope I don't get to 25500 and it crashes.....

Thanks for the heads up guys! Just a quick note. If the internet stops do I need to start from scratch? Thanks for the server info to. I hate joining a server and finding out it was the suckiest one. Really wanted to get on tonight but at least its up and running for the weekend. After the patcher has finished I just install MoM as normal and it should hook up right? |

Dont worry. You can stop at any moment. And patcher will continue from where it left off. Download is bit slow (at least was for me) and took me around 10 hours. But it all went without any problems. Thing is , that they updated almost everything. Lot of zones are redone , and changed in small but noticable ways. Therefore you have so many files to fix ...

In a way I am glad there are this many fixes and added content. One of the big pulls to LotR for me is knowing that its been out for a while now so all the annoying bugs would be ironed out and lots of improvements made. Nice to come into a game and have it run smoothly. I have been in too many new launches and put up with too many hot fixes. Just a shame I have to wait so long before I log on!

The DX10 effects are subtle, but fit perfectly within the overall art design. There is a LOT to do in the game, if you're the type that likes to keep busy. If you create a character on Landroval, add Ironleaf (my new warden) and I'll come help and explore (been a while since I was away). On the LOTRO forums, you can PM under Sindrael.
Hope you like the game! |

Hey all, I just managed to log in this morning and leveled up to 6. I just have one major issue right now. I picked a Warden and for some reason I have a screen right over my character called 'default gambit' surely this isnt right? can i remove or move? |

To move UI elements press and hold the right control key and the / key just above your enter key. You can then drag around the windows to wherever you need want them.. Just press the right control and / key to exit and return to gameplay.
I hope that helps

Oh thats UI for showing the Wardens unique Gambit system, if you havent read about it you should to learn how it works. When you use your 3 skills (Spear, shield and fist) you can make differnt combos or Gambit. Eh this was to hard for me to explain... :D (and you can move it like the above poster said) read this instead: http://www.lotro.com/gameinfo/devdiaries/239-developer-diary-creating-a-new-class-the-warden?start=2 When you have a correct gambit in your bar then the "Default gambit" will change into the name of the gambit skill. Since you have played AoC you could same the Warden is a bit simillar to how combat works there with 3 differnt attacks that can be combined into combos. If WoW = The Beatles |

Thanks again guys! Interface sorted and I learnt about the combos. That actually puts a very interesting slant on tactics in the game now. Cheers! |

Welcome to the game and to let you know wardens only get better as they climb the lvl tree. My lvl 52 warden is able to take on two mobs that are conned orange to him, tha is 2-3 lvls above him and walk away. The gambit system adds alot to the combat and makes it so you have to plan ahead and think about wich gambit you want to set up. Enjoy the game.

Thanks Grind. I am really enjoying the Warden class because of the combos and tactics needed. I find myself judging whether or not to go all out DPS or use more defensive combos. It does make me wonder whether or not it should be used as a main stream combat engine in the game. So far today I hit level 9. I really like deeds, epic quests and titles. Something I do miss in AoC. Sure the combat isn't as in-depth and I did find myself missing the limb chopping in AoC but LotR's really does what it set out to do really well and that is lore and old school RPG. I have to say I found it hard at the start not knowing where to go for quests then I found myself reading the text to work out the location. OLD SCHOOL! Its funny how I found myself missing it so much. Its nice to have that touch back again. People I met have been pretty nice also. Grouped up with a couple of guys and overall the community seemed pretty mature. I am surprised about the graphics also. I thought it would be outdated but personally I would rank it behind AoC. Characters at low levels still looked nice and different enough. I am running the game on ultra settings and so far only a couple of tiny spikes. So overall pretty happy and glad I have subscribed. I still have AoC for my PvP bloody fix but LotR's is definitely going to fill my old school RPG needs. I have to say I did laugh at myself today when I jumped at seeing another player behind me. I have to keep reminding myself not everyone can or is there to chop my freaking head off!! In fact a few times they jumped in to save my skin! Looking forward to leveling more tomorrow.

That is a good mix, AoC for PvP and LoTRO for the PvE. Be sure to give the MPvP a shot though, It may or may not be your cup of tea but it is worth taking a look at to find out for yourself. here is a guide to get you off on the right foot |

I got MoM the other day. From a fresh install of a UK launch version of the original game with no patching done what so ever I then installed MoM. After that there was 1700 files to patch which took about 15 minutes and I was good to go....
This was 2 days ago. I havnt had chance to properly start playing the game yet but i've jumped in for a few minutes. Like the new trait improvements. |

Don't worry, we have nice and populated servers too :-) (Considering the Lore-Worldquest before MoM I would even guess that we have bigger servers than you - at least in Germany :P )
We also got Belegaer Lobo. German RP-Server and first to complete the lore-quest. So no, Laurelin is neither the only official RP server nor the biggest one. :-) We aren't going to be allowing RMT in any way, shape or form on the non-exchange enabled EQ II servers. Period. End of statement. John Smedley |

Lets judge this by how many people can be found roleplaying in "Prancing Pony Inn" at any time of the day apologies to the OP for the derail Ok it is not a every day event but several times I have seen impromptu concerts on Silverlode. Most times in the square outside the Pony, sometimes under the Party Tree, even once in the Bree Auction hall. Anyway back to the OP, I am curious as to whether you have tried the MPvP yet as a "bad guy" and if so what did you think of it. I know it is not full on PvP but I think it is a nice side game of sorts. |
