I think it's about time we stop the madness that is going on here on these forums.  Ever since the news yesterday about the delay of Darkfall, there have been dozens of posts of people screaming about scams and shams, and threatening to not buy this game etc.

First of all let make start out by say, nobody who is interested in this game really gives a hot steaming crap if you are not going to play, let alone visit these forums.  In fact, considering about half of you never had any intention of getting this game to begin with, I think it will actually increase the quality of discussion in these forums when you leave.  I am actually astonished that moderators have let half of the nonsense in here go as far as it has.

Second. This game still has just as much interest in it than it did yesterday and every day before that.  Let's put this into perspective for a minute.   The Darkfall forums at any given moment have upwards of 1000+ people looking at them at any given moment during the day.   Compare that to MMORPG.com, a site I think many of us can agree is one of the premiere websites for ALL MMOs, and you can see they are pretty even.

Third.  I am sure most of the people who frequent this forum have also frequented certain other websites that contain beta leaks for Darkfall.  If you have read these tidbits, you undoubted know that this extra month is probably for the better.   I also wager that a lot of the same people whining about a 1 month delay, would be whining if the game had gone live on the 22nd with bugged features.

I don't recall seeing this degree of whining about Age of Conan's or Warhammer Online's delays, which were both pushed several months, and some multiple times.  Both of these games have lost a large percentage of their initial subscribers because they were either lacking promised features (AoC), or because the overall mechanics of the game had not been tested enough (Warhammer).  You can't have it both ways.

Now I am not going to promise that Darkfall will be the perfect game, but I do intend to buy it regardless because I think it is an important moment for this genre.   50$ is not a big risk to me because I am a working adult.   If you do not intend to buy or think it's a scam, your opinion has been noted, and simply move onto the next game forum.  There are plenty of instant-gratification games out there now and coming soon that will be more than happy to hold your hand and coddle you through their theme park.  If you are like me, you are sick to death of watching the same game being marketed to you over and over again with a different title on the box.

If you are a legitimate skeptic, that is fine.  Simply don't preorder or buy the game at release.  Nobody is forcing you to play this game, or preorder this game, or buy this game, or even like this game.  I plan to review Darkfall Online when it released in my blog here (also mirrored on MMOCrunch.com) as I did when Warhammer Online was released.   If it turns out to be some sort of a scam or debacle, I will let you know.

In the meantime, stop the madness.  Delays happens on all video gaming platforms, including console systems.  It was Shigeru Miyamoto from Nintendo who once said... “A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever.”

i was interested in this game in 2003, then 2005 me and my guild signed up for numerous betas for Darkfall, followed this closely, and we hoping. Delay after delay, excuse after excuse, we all gave up and lost interest in this game. This game represents also, in alot of ways, mourning and dark and light. Don't blame us "trolls" who have been following this gmae for over 5 years now, hearing every excuse in the book on why the game gets delayed. There are only so many times you can cry wolf before people stop beleiving you.

I have a problem with the use of the word "skeptic" on these forums. Most of the people here who spend every waking hour trying to find something they hate about the game or its community are not skeptics. In the same way some people choose to believe everything Tasos tells them, some people choose to believe nothing Tasos tells them. They're both fanatical in their own rites.

As for me, I am skeptical about the game, but will still purchase it. As a true skeptic, I wish to be convinced that this game is everything that is being promised and advertised. The only way for that to happen will be for me to try the game. I have wasted hundreds and hundreds of dollars in subscriptions and DVDs for failed or half-finished games.

What's another 50 bucks?

Stop following it then? Are you a paraniod stalker with an agenda against Aventurine? Why are you here if you don't have any interests in the game? Deluded?

thats rich, considering there are still people who blame their life's issues on SOE even though games like SWG have been changed for almost 3 years now...........hey guess what, least they  had products which were actually released and were successful for a time.

I would rather see a delay then a game released still in a "beta" state and fumble around for three months while it's population gets crushed and never recover.

No clue why people cry over a delay, they are delaying the game so they can improve the game.

what part is over the top? the fact that i followed darkfall since 2003? The fact that they had 3 seperate occasions for "beta" and a guild beta test? The fact they have delayed the game for over 5 years? The fact that i still find it humourous that people think this game is still coming out? If so, then yes, it may be over the top

Thank you for the definition of the word. Does it prove anything you wanted to say? Or does it only prove me more correct? I personally believe it's the latter, but I respect your skepticism.

See? This is what I am talking about. When this exact thing happened with Funcom and, to a lesser degree Warhammer, people went crazy. At that time many of us who looked forward to the games had to put up with constant hate and trolls on the forums, to the point where I just avoided the forums all together.

Now those games, with huge development teams and multi-million dollar backing had issues and broken promises.

So the point: HOW ARE WE TO EXPECT AVENTURINE AND DARKFALL TO BE ANY DIFFERENT?

Should we cut them some slack? And no, I do not care about delays (it happens), I am talking about going back on their word and changing the very basic way they do things. IF THIS WAS FUNCOM OR MYTHIC, EVERYONE WOULD BE COMPLAINING 1000 TIMES WORSE. Just because its some little company we have not heard of, we are supposed to relax and understand? I do not think so and it is very hypocritical.

See that "FunCon" banner? Why can't we have the same level os skepticism and mis-trust with Aventurine at this point?

So the point: HOW ARE WE TO EXPECT AVENTURINE AND DARKFALL TO BE ANY DIFFERENT?

agreed...some of us who have been legitimately following this game and others have every right at this point to be skeptical. If this was ANY other company you would all be ravenous, foaming at the mouth, and ready to rip it apart. But because this is a game you find you would like, you are willing to let it slide.

i was interested in this game in 2003, then 2005 me and my guild signed up for numerous betas for Darkfall, followed this closely, and we hoping.

Stop following it then? Are you a paraniod stalker with an agenda against Aventurine? Why are you here if you don't have any interests in the game? Deluded?

Geez, a bit over the top, no?  It's a game not an innocent victim from the latest Law and Order show!

what part is over the top? the fact that i followed darkfall since 2003? The fact that they had 3 seperate occasions for "beta" and a guild beta test? The fact they have delayed the game for over 5 years? The fact that i still find it humourous that people think this game is still coming out? If so, then yes, it may be over the top

100% garrentee its coming out... ill bet you any amount of money right here and know on that

The problem is that you guys are trying to reason with people who are not using reason.  Their support of the game comes 100% on FAITH.  You can't reason with faith.  They want the game to be good so badly, that they will put up with anything from the developers.  I am a person that was extremely excited about the concepts in the game, but as someone who has been let down a million times by these promises of MMOs in development (and specifically by this game several YEARS ago), you just realize not to trust any of the pre-release nonsense (unless from an extremely tried and true publisher).

Of course they are using a double standard.  It is why this whole thing has been amusing to follow!

Let it slide from what? Honestly this is the part I never understood about some of these so-called skeptics. If you truly, truly doubt the claims this game makes, then that's fine. There's no need to post about it, just sit there silently until it comes out(if it does). Once it does, pay your 50 bucks and see for yourself. Don't let others forge an opinion for you, unless you're on a budget restricted by parents.

To put things in perspective, if I could pay $50 for proof of creationism, I would. Not because I believe in it, but because I'm skeptical such proof would ever exist. Only way to see for sure would be to suck it up, and pony up the dough. I'm skeptical a game like Darkfall could exist, which is why I'm going to pay for it if/when it comes out.

If it is a scam, I'd just sit there and have a good laugh about it. If they manage to take my $50, it would've taken them 7 years to develop a scheme to accomplish stealing my cash. I can get that money back much faster than 7 years.

You've hit the nail on the head there. We are supposed to forgive them because they are an Indie company and are 'trying to do something new and innovative'. That is commendable, yes, but the way they have gone about it is not.

People airing their concerns about Aventurine and DF is perfectly acceptible. If we all kept them to ourselves, how would newcomers to the genre who have no memory of DnL/AoC not fall into the same trap again? Those of us that have seen such events first hand have a responsibility to make people aware of the fact that this crap happens in the industry.
