The folks at Fallen Earth have posted a State of the Game update where they detail where the game currently stands in the development process, talk about new strategies for working on the game, and provide some hard numbers on what's in the game so far.

As we start a New Year and ramp up for launch, we at Fallen Earth wanted to take a moment to review some milestones of 2008. We are also excited about many changes we’ve recently made to improve the player experience and look forward to milestones in the near future.

In 2008, we began a new production method to provide clear timelines for each town, as well as a place for artists, designers, scripters and QA to mix ideas and stay on the same page. Earlier on, we went back and forth between the design team and the art department with no real communication or verification of what the town would look like or what the teams wanted. Some good ideas were lost due to lack of communication, and we lacked solid deadlines and processes for QA. By implementing the scrum method, we have eliminated many communication issues between different teams working on the same end product and we have solidified our goals and deadlines.

We also recreated many towns in the first sector and thoroughly reviewed the rest. That’s a huge amount of content:

  • 75,000+ text strings
  • Almost 5,500 missions
  • 6,000+ items
  • 14,000+ unique characters/creatures
  • 143,000+ in game objects
  • 70 towns
  • 600+ hrs of content

Read more here.

Could it be?!  Fallen Earth will really be released "in a couple of months"?

I can't wait!  Well, I suppose I can a bit longer, I've been waiting for... 5 years?  It's been so long I can't remember the first time I heard about this game.

Good amount of progress there. Its good to see that some indi games can be conserveative about hype, and just focue on building the game and not try to act like they can compeate with the big boys.

From the article it looks like they are just saying we will start seeing more promoting of this game in the next couple of months.  If it is ready a release date in a couple of months would be awesome.  I'm looking forward to this title.

Gamers who use RMT are like athletes who use steroids

You have got to be kidding me.

Not only is this one of the ugliest games I have seen previews for, but the setting and story is dumb.

A typical day in Fallen Earth is being marketed as a day where you go club worms for gasoline?! Boring.

This coming from a DF fan is hilarious!

It is on my 'to be tried' list. Which is more than I can say for a lot of other games.

hehe exactly my thought

This game looks really cool and I like that this indie company seems very open with giving info about the game and whats going on! 4000 alpha testers? Didnt DF have a few hundred Beta tester??

If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

While alot of things I have seen and read about this game look promising I just don't think it is going to make it in today's post-WoW MMORPG market.

This is going to be a niche game - skill based, non-fantasy setting - but I'm hoping it can have a large enough community to survive and be fun to play. Skill based always feels more immersive to me and surviving in a post apocalyptic world would be a huge draw after many hours spent in Fallout 3.

As usual though I'm concerned by the number of quests. I don't want 5500 missions, I want about 100 very carefully crafted, long and intricate quests that will span my entire career in the game. I also want a compelling end game and I want it to start as soon as I start the game. WAR has managed this, now it's time for other MMOs to improve on it.

I'll definitely give this a month's play.

been watchin awhile now ..regardless of how it looks here and there ill give it a try. would be nice if they had storyline world missions/quests that opened more areas that slowly took us away from the grand canyon...also if the ruins and things could be repair or rebuilt as istaria did...such as this biulding needs 100or what ever boards and one would have to cut trees and make boeards to donate to structure to rebuild it and anyone in game could add to its list of need repairs ..

also heard weather was going to influence us in some way but that info is old and i have not heard anything more on it... a good to fair sci fi game would be nice as oppose to another sword and sorcery game...

how about a good zombie game?....lol

anyway be kind
