Just picked up the game.  Any advice for a noob?

What server has the highest pop?

What is crafting like?

Are more players hardcore or casual?

Anything else you think I should know...

Thanks!

Hey whats up.  I just resubbed as well and am having a blast.  I started my new characters on Seradon.  There always seems to be a good number of people on and looking for groups.  The world is huge is very not linear so its easy to be fighting someplace where no one is around, but that doesnt mean you have to.  I think there is a good mix or casual and hardcore gamers.......alot of people have been coming back.  One thing to note is that the community is great and theres plenty of people that will give you advice and whatnot.  Never much of a crafter so i cant comment on that.  Good luck, its a great game

Thanks.

I bought the Limited Edition box set and I was looking at the art book that came with it....I can't wait to get started.  I haven't heard anything bad about this game.

I have another question I forgot to ask.

Is there any PvP in this game?  Not that it matters to me because I am a PvE player, but I was just curious.

First off I wanna say welcome to Vanguard! I hope you enjoy your time in the game.

As to answer your question about PvP, there is a PvP server(Sartok), but I have no ídea how it works(since i'm on Halgar) and focus mostly on PvE.

The game is great, lots and lots and lots of things to do and like the person above me said, the world is huge(x100 times that even) spread over three continents so don't get paranoid if you only see one or two there, there are lots of people playing this game.

Cheers and good luck!

This will soon be fixed.

There is a PvP server called sartok, population is low but dedicated. VG is primary a PvE game.

Hope you will enjoy your visit Rozenblade1. I wouldnt suggest that you pick the server with most population. Take the one in your time zone :) I know for one that itsnt fun to play an mmo on a server where all pepole are sleeping when Im awake.

Crafting is like an game itself and is quite complexed. A real time killer in other words.

The BEST advice you can get on getting groups:

You will group much more if you take the initiative to start groups yourself. How do you do that? The Advanced Find feature.

* Open the social tab
* go to the "Find" window at the bottom left tab of the social window
* once in the general find tab, there are three tabs at the top
* click the "advanced find" tab on the top right
* set a level range
* use the dropdown menu to select classes
* you can select classes by archetype (clicking "heavy fighter" will just search for all tanks)
* Alt+tab out of vanguard. Open a word processor and type out "Hey, want to do xxx dungeon" or something polite along those lines
* copy that text
* go back to vanguard, and using the send tell button in the advanced find window, and using ctrl+v (paste), send a tell to everyone online in your level range
* start with tanks/healers
* Don't bother waiting for a response before you send a tell to the next person. Out of a list of 10-20 people, it's likely that only one or two will be interested.

Keep in mind people might not know about a dungeon, so they might ask if there are quests there, and they might ask how to get there. People like quests. I don't know why. I'm more of a fan of summons/named killing, but whatever. It's helpful to be able to say that, yes, there are quests. Or just say you're killing named. Be sure to be able to describe how to get to the dungeon.
And remember, most dungeons don't require a full group of 6, especially if you have a tank and healer. If you *can't* find a tank, just get 2-3 healers, a CC, and have a non-heavy fighter tank. The following classes can tank most pre-50 content if you have an extra healer: monk, disciple, cleric (if he can hold aggro), tuurgin shaman, ranger. A bard will work if he's higher level than the rest of the group. A rogue can tank if he's a phenominal player. Your milage will vary based on the gear of your psuedo tank.

Once you get the basis of the group, now you can start spamming for more. People like joining groups in progress. So be sure to say /ooc LFM xxx dungeon (level range)
or better yet say LF2M (or however many more you're looking for) because people will be more likely to join a fuller group.

It's nice to make a macro that checks for people on the lfg list AND spams chat at the same time:
/ooc LFxM (level range) PST!
/who all lfg (min level) (max level)

Here's a working example of that macro
/ooc LF3M The basement of River palace 36-42 PST!
/who all lfg 36 42

Why bother spam chat at all, if you can just use the advanced find tab? Alts. Players may be interested in a dungeon with a character they don't currently have logged on.
This /who all lfg 36 42 command will only return people lfg, so if your group is getting desparately low on numbers, you need to head back to the advanced find tab and spam more people.

Also, don't forget to put yourself on the LFM list. Go to the find window. This time, click the top middle tab "LFM." Click the Looking for More button. Now your group will appear on the lfg list.

The last and possibly most important pieces of advice I can give you:

* don't be afraid of starting a group for an area you know nothing about
o either everyone in the group knows nothing, and it's an adventure
o or someone knows the area well and can offer advice leading
* don't be afraid of sending tells to random people you don't know
o people are overwhelmingly nice about receiving random lfg tells, even if they can't attend.
o most responses follow the lines of "oh! i'd love to but I can't right now..."
o if they don't appreciate being randomly hit up for a group, they're not going to join and there's no problem
o if people really don't want to be annoyed, they could just turn on /anonymous

Good luck and happy hunting.

Stop wondering its free atm so come back to the dark side ;p

If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude; greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.
