Ok, I know the older Eve players will just brush this off and probably call me a noob or some other stupid things. However I have a valid proposal that Eve should maybe impliment... The things with Eve that bug me to start with... The fact that I am still just a ship? Weren't they going to let me wander around the station at one point? What happened with that. Also if I can wander around the station what else is there to do, go into refining shops and use equipment, or see equipment stored for sale...etc. Maybe a casino or a bingo hall in the stations? How about player operated bars, like Quarks from DS9. Anyway I am getting ahead of myself. You can't tell me out of all of space we have not found one Alien? What the heck is up with that? Not even a green slave woman for us to buy and sell? What I would like to see happen in Eve... Well I am liking Eve, I am not asking for the core of the game to be destroyed or killed off. I am just wondering if these ideas would work. I like the idea of being able to dock at a station and get out of my ship and have my own quarters. I should be able to decorate them and invite others into them as well. However having a big station with nothing to really do just plain sucks. So why not add player rented spaces like a mall where they can set up shops or bars so that you can go drowned your sorrows. Give them the ability to buy casino games, and have a full out casino going on, make some people become buisness men or tycoons. Next Space is huge so why not add in an Alien Race, but not just an Alien Race but give everyone who playes 3 more character slots for "Aliens". If you create a chacter there you would end up being essentially at war with the humans. I know I know old story but to make it work into the game how about this. You create alien space very similar to what we currently have in Eve, just as big and dangerous. Pvp applys there to for alien on alien battles. Here is where the connection comes in, in each zone from 0.4 and lower there will be a tunnel connection or a complex between these two galaxies. Something that connects them, worm holes or something...etc. This is the point where an Alien or human can fly into the new galaxy and explore or cause a war. These entry points have to be extreamly well hidden to begin with, like a lotto winning type of statistic for explorers. That entry point will be so well hidden it will give the Aliens time to skill up with a totaly new set of skills and ships. So that when the entry point is found a possible war or peace could start. Each month that the entrance isn't found the stats should get better and better so that after 1 year the gate will be sure to be found. Make it so the Aliens wage wars on races of humans, destroy bases...etc. Have it so they set up there own bases in the human spaces and vica versa. Lore wise this would give us so many more missions, Covert missions...etc. Stratigic hits on stations or rogue Aliens...etc. What do you all think? |

well, the walking in stations thing is scheduled to be released this autumn.
the aliens taking over human space thing? how is that different to alliances taking over alliances space?
so, one idea is already in the works, the other is already in the game. |

Technically humans are the aliens. That's not to say I don't understand what you meant and to that I'll say that there are a whole bunch of aliens in the game all the live stock, all the native plants, and all the planets. There's also the Jove, while still human they've messed with their geneline and augmentations so much that I'd consider them more alien than human(seriously they're so messed up compared to humans that they need to take a few semesters of "aggression training" so their pilots can actually fight). There's also a "faceless" race that the Jove are at war with that have even more insanely advanced tech than them.
All in all I'd have to say that I'm happy with how races are set up. Intelligence that you would want to talk with isn't necessary for survival of the species so it's probably insanely rare if you were to consider it from the "real" perspective. You could even say that real intelligence is actually a burden on your species considering how much energy it takes to keep a developed brain functioning. |

WIS (Walking In Stations) is coming and it looks great www.youtube.com/watch. I am having a really hard time waiting for all the good stuff coming to EVE this year. Not sure if they will introduce aliens of the kind you are looking for but they will introduce worm holes and unexplored new space and stuff there .. check out the fanfest 2008 videos. If you are not accustomed to eating kiwi, go slow at first. |

I hear you about wanting a real avatar. Fortunately, it's been in the works for a long time and looks like it will be coming to fruition sometime this year (likely in the fall or winter). As for the whole 'alien invasion' thing, I'm not so sure. Large-scale PvE content like that really goes against what EvE is about (which is the players writing all the bits of the story that make any kind of difference). If you're looking for alien invasions, you can sort of get it now in the form of content involving Rogue Drones (as well as entire regions where all the rats are Rogue Drones). If you're looking for group PvE high level (9/10, 10/10) exploration plexes offer that, as well as level 5 missions. The March 10 expansion is supposed to introduce new, more epic-y missions as well. But I doubt any kind of PvE will ever become the main focus of the game, to the point where the major (player) powerblocks have to set aside their differences to go deal with it. |

EVE needs aliens about as much as it needs an item mall and a new PvE server.

One of the most common criticisms of EVE is that you are only a spaceship. I find this very puzzling and missing one of the points of the story aspects of the game. A very simple way to put this is that the EVE pod pilot is transhuman. Technology has lifted them beyond the normal mortal concerns; they are effectively immortal and extend their awareness within aircraft carrier sized spaceships. The spaceships become an extension of their identity, however one that can be modified at will (depending on budget and training). In the words of the developers, “the eve pod pilot is considered a god amongst men”. So when I see someone unable to grasp that a ship and an avatar can represent your character I assume they have not thought through how the impact of the environment that pod pilot would experiences would have on their sense of identity. They are simply not human anymore so why would they expose their vulnerable meat puppet to danger outside of the identity recording device in the pod? I know that a lot of people can’t get away from the idea of being human first and foremost, that transhumanism is out of their ideas of what can happen to humans in a science fiction setting. But then to see someone who can’t deal with a transhuman conception of a character who then wants to play an alien just blows me away. Aliens are even more distancing than a ship like existence. At least there you are starting from the fundamentals of human experience, not something that is truly unknown and unknowable. Unless of course you mean the bulk of ‘aliens’ in modern literature. That are just humans with a bit of latex on their face or in a funny suit. |

Both characters are intergrated with the systems of a much larger construct and the both discuss almost a withdraw when they are not connected with it. After reading Jovian Wetgraveagain I would imagine that pod pilots would have the same longing almost to be connected to something larger. |

Aliens are a horrible idea. A dev actually commented on this topic, i'll try to find it later.
Eve is about humans. The lore is about humans and what they would do if seperated into groups for millenia and then meet agian. It's about wars, decisions, betrayal. Eve..is humans. Not aliens. Aliens are a boring scifi cliche, and i'm actually glad that the devs apparently noticed how cliche their jove were. Aliens are pretty boring, it has been done over and over again, beaten to death, buried, zombified in endless repetition. Alien vs. Humans..yeah, very original. Not. Humans vs. Humans, Brothers turning on Brothers, betrayal, theft and wars. Friendships, pacts, that's what Eve is all about, both in the lore and in everyday gameplay. Some uber race doesn't fit in here, Eve doesn't need a deus ex machina to be interesting. |
