Ok so I took the plunge and downloaded the 14 day trial. My first impressions are…god it is just so chilled out! Love it! It is prob different in 0 sec space but for the moment I am loving the skill based system as opposed to a levelling based one. My long term goals are to be a bit of a misfit tbh. As I have said in another post my ultimate goal is piracy, either solo or maybe with a small raid fleet in the future. Am dying to get to 0.0 space. Can I do this when I get a decent frigate after I have done the tutorial? |

getting to 0.0 space is easy. trivial in fact.
staying alive for long in 0.0 is harder, and profiting from 0.0 space is very difficult and generally requires some very clever out of the box thinking, or a whole lot of friends. |

OP illustrates one of the things I've noticed about Eve - people who stay generally 'get it' within the first 5 minutes and start figuring things out. People who don't whine on the forums they can't catch up and can't find anything to do. |

Keep in mind that any end goal you have will be very hard to achieve alone.
Join a corp once you get the hang of things (for you I recommend a 0.0 combat corp if you want to get right into the thick of alliance warfare and politics, or a pirate/merc corp if you want small scale battles).
And remember, 80% of corps are just carebears running missions, 15% are wannabes who suck and don't have organization, and 5% are worth joining and being a part of. Get all the training you can from a corp, and if it isn't for you, move on.
I personally was fine playing alone for 6 months before I did anything with a group, but I loved to dabble in everything. 0.0 is a harsh place alone, I still remember losing my shiny new Wolf to a gatecamp. Gotta say though, once I moved some minerals and ammo blueprints down and was making my own way down there, it felt GREAT. Of course if I wasn't sucha loner a corp would have made it easier.
Anyway, have fun! |

Just 1 warning ,when you want to buy an item from contracts or directly from a player, look carefully at the price and/or RIGHT CLICK on item and select SHOW INFO,and check if the ship realy is what the seller says it is. Alot of people fall for fake contracts and trades... it's sad realy. |

The goons are great fun if you're a SomethingAwful.com member and have friends there. Otherwise, stay away like the plague.
Many large alliances have training programs. These can be great, and some of them throw you out into big battles as a tackler, which is quite awe inspiring as a new player. |

Just a few tips for your search: People who claim to be elite, are not. The best pirate corps are usually pretty quiet. Also, you might want to get some isk source ready before you engage in pvp. That means that you can replace your stuff easily, so you can go and experiment. A corp might even be your isk source, for a lot of people a small t1 fitted rifter is pocket exchange. If i were you, i'd go and get myself roughly familiar with combat, even if that means doing some pve. Get some skills ready, skills for flying a stabber will also mostly help you with a rifter for example. With some skills, you could take on basic 0.0 npc. (to earn money of course) If you move to 0.0 or not is a whole other question, some established alliances won't take you, suspecting you're a spy, some might after some screening. When we take people, we usually try to figure out if the applicant has the skills to at least beat some basic npcs in our 0.0 to earn some money, which usually includes some skills for a battlecruiser. History has shown, that without a solid income, members will be broke after just weeks of war. By the way, don't worry about sp. They just don't matter, and shouldn't matter to you anyways. There are more people flying t1 frigs even in fleets of self proclaimed elite alliances than you'd think. |

I have a character in a small but growing low-sec pirate corp that you might want to check out, Blood Money Inc./Blood Money Bootcamp. I don't believe the Bootcamp has any SP requirements for joining, as long as you are willing to embrace the life of a pirate. And, it's a good bunch of people and very active! |

Not to take over the original posters thread and all, but I am in a very similar boat as he is. The only difference is that I'm not out looking for a pirate gang to join, I'm looking for a well organized, well oiled corporation who is willing to take on a low level engineering/business type into their ranks. Sure I wouldn't mind and even am looking forward to combat, I would rather understand how everything works, ships, parts, etc.. before I go taking them out into battle. The best part of EVE, that I've seen so far, is the immense ammount of intellegent and organized players, and thats something I want to be a part of, not some carebear mission running team. Anyway, my name in game is Memruy and I will be on later today. Send me a message, oh veterans of EVE, I'd love to hear your stories. PLAY WURM ONLINE!! www.wurmonline.com |

You may need to put a couple years into training skills before any of the top pirate corps will likely take a hard look unless you know someone in one already. Not saying that by chance one might but most look at what skills you have trained up. |

Yup is the answer. Just get a frig and deck it out with jammers or similar and join the militia or small pirate guild. You can be useful even then. |
