Hi First of all i don't play EQ but i see this expansion for 24.95 here in town and i was thinking of trying it..would it be worth it for a newbie?...Also it feels like it may contain a real manual by the weight of it but who knows?
As a old gamer i'm looking for something with depth but not impossible to get in too..thanks for any advice |

the problem is that EQ has been out a long time so you have most of the players at a high lvl . as for leave it because its soe i would say try the trial first and see hoe you like it i personally have it on a station pass |

I'd say its totally worth it, don't listen to the flamers. (usually they dont pay for their own anyway, thanks mom and dad!) Its a good game with a lot to do. I did get bored after about 45 levels and decided to take a break. Typical of most MMO's but it has some depth. Overall I have not many complaints and it was the best $19.99 I've spent on a game, Took me a while to find a class I was comfotable playing, but I ended up with a Ranger.

There was a time when Everquest was the most entertaining of mmos, but as the other posters noted: it is an aged game which might be difficult to catch up with the current player base. In my opinion, a better choice at present is WoW because of its player base and soloability. You can hit the ground running with WoW. Just be warned that the population of WoW is mixed, and often the loudest speakers are the jerks(speaking from my experience). |

Well..i'll wait for a few more opinions..lol |

I think it is a pretty good game. I just recently started playing again and there are more then a few others in the low levels. I haven't tried to find a guild or anything yet, but it looks like some are still active. It's a very old game. It's a very tough (unforgiving game) compared to any game that start after it. Some can not cope with those two things. Others thrive on it's history, vastness, and danger. It is exciting if you are willing to put up with it's lack of modern gimmicks. Don't expect to be babysitted -- there is help to be had, but you often will not find it when you want it. It will often require that you have tried HARD first. Enjoy it! And welcome to the Beast-daddy-MMO of them all. Consider yourself warned -- Keep hands and fingers inside at all times.

I used to play EQ when it first came out. It was great then. It is horribly dated now. I went back to try last year. It is like an antique. Bad interfact, bad graphics, bad quest support, little scripting .... I will avoid it now. |

I used to play EQ for a lot of years. I still think it's a more entertaining game than WoW and I'm kind of sorry I left because now it would be hard to get back into it. It's not as wiz bang as newer games but it does have a charm all it’s own. When I played there were only a couple PvP servers Rallos Zek and something else. The PvP actually wasn't bad at all. There was a 4 level limit and you could only loot coin and one item. I'm sure this has all changed now but I still remember it fondly. If you get over the hump of learning and older game with less feathers and can deal with the lower end graphics you might find it fun. It’s a somewhat more dangerous world than WoW but it really isn’t bad once you get the hang of it. Edit: BTW: it's more of a grouping game than WoW but there are (were) a few classes that could solo well. Necro, Druid and Shaman come to mind. Shaman was my favorite. |

that may work because my other computer bit the dust and the 6200 pci card is the max that is made for just for plain pci i guess. |

I dont know why the topic was moved here
the OP is asking about Everquest en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secrets_of_Faydwer --- not EQ2 |
|

No, it's not worth it. EQ1 is old. I'm not sure why you'd want to start it now if you have never played it before. I don't know how much it has changed since I last played it, but the game was not solo friendly, and there was a lot of down time. This is a huge factor since most of the remaining player base would all be high levels and you would be pretty much alone most ofthe time. You'd be better off starting with a newer MMORPG. Maybe EQ2 or WoW. If for some reason you really, really want to play EQ1, then you can download the starter kit with 15 expansions, including Secrets of Faydwer, directly from the website for the same price as that one expansion. |

Ignore the haters. Yes, its a good expansion. And no, most people aren't level 80 despite what the haters say. |

I believe that comes with all the expansions too for $20 more than the starter pack, so if you are going to play EQ1 then either of those are the way to go. Btw, you aren't a hater just because you suggest that someone not start an MMORPG that is a decade old. For most people that is good advice, but if somebody really wants to do it, great.
