So you ask yourself a question in the thread title, then answer it in the thread. what source did you use to come to this conclusion?

Cheers!

I read that the devs are thinking about implementing it which they probably will.

Just say NO to cash shop games.

To be honest with you I have been in most mmo betas since UO and devs talk alot, promise alot, say alot, but in the end the product is usually not what was talked about. I wouldn't go and get yourself all fired up until they state what type of model they plan to follow.

Cheers!

I remember 10+ years ago hearing the cries of "WTF, a game with a subscription fee, that sucks I'll -NEVER- play one of those, it'll never catch one LOL, no-one would pay per month for a game."

And we all know how that turned out.

If it has an item-shop, I'll do the sensible thing and assess it on its value for money. If it's a rip-off then I won't use it. If the game is structured so that you HAVE to use it (and it's a rip-off) then I'll find another game.

Nothing is confirmed, and we know nothing about how the game will be structured or balanced, so please, take this waste of space thread where they like to read about opinions that are based in emotion, and not any realty.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

Having a subscription fee is good for certain reaasons.  Game quality, hacker free (mostly) patches that tweak the game, and continual content to keep people in it.

Have a subscription fee + cash shop = fail.  Game integrity worthless, pay to exist, won't ever do anything but sink a game.  Do you know any popular successful MMOs with cash shops in them?  That's cause they sink the game.

Yes, actually, but they are all in Korea and China. In fact, all of the most popular MMOs in Korea and China have cash shops, and have millions of players, rivalling World of Warcraft in those areas. And THIS is why US/EU games are beginning to bring them in. They have seen this model be highly successful in these asian areas and want to see if it will work here and bring in the additional revenue. Currently Acclaim (TCoS), SOE (Freerealms / EQ), EA (Battlefield Heroes) and a few others are launching, and should they be successful, expect to see cash shops becoming the norm in gaming very soon.

Cash shop = 100% garbage. With a sub fee everyone is on the same playing field, with a cash shop, whoever has more money in the bank account wins in game, just like IRL.

We are supposed to be escaping to these fantasy worlds to get away from bullshit like this.

Any video game ever made that has a cash shop in it (where items that actually benefit your characters are sold) will be a 100% trash\fail game. Even if it sells well and breaks subscription records it will still be a crap game. Yes wow fans, 11 million people CAN be wrong.

Can you give a source to this info that no one else seems to have? If not, what is the point of all this?  Nobody knows what will happen with this game until bioware says so. Take some adderall and chill out.

The only way a cash-shop game will work is if there is a low limit to what you can spend every month(doubtful) or the items that you buy are just for cosmetic's.

Cash-shops throw alot of the skill out the window and let's the guy that doesnt have anything else to do with his cash go further and further in advancement every month compared to Joe Standard who has to watch his cash to pay the for the house and put food on the plate's of his family.

I would maybe be all for cash-shops if they limited the amount each account could spend every month to around the same as a sub but ofc then you would still get the rich guys with 5 accounts(sad but true).

I enjoy playing MMo's but want to play on an even field,so I guess for me at least --no fixed sub then no point in playing.

THIS IS NOT OFFICAL! They were thinking about Mirco-Transaction Based but now they are saying they are lending toward a monthly fee.

Kinda depends on how you look at it; it could be argued that the people with lots of free time currently have an advantage over those with less free time in games that are geared towards grinding or large time investments. I.e. 4 hours a night raids or reputation grinds that take hours.

These things don't require skill; they require time. Hence, people with more time are at an advantage.

Replacing "fluff" grinds with Cash Shops would even the playing field imo.

But I don't think MT based games should also charge a subscription fee; that seems a cheap and tawdry attempt to fleece an MMO community that is accustomed to 10+ years of the subscription model.

If TOR has both, I'll still play it, (assuming it's worth playing) but I just won't use the cash shop and if that limits my enjoyment of the game to a significant degree then I'll find another game.

lol why do people make posts saying, they are leaving, or they aren't going to play a game that isn't out yet other than to just troll? What a waste of database space this thread is.

Good for you, you aren't interested, now move along.

For me, at all depends on what they mean by a "cash shop". If they are talking about selling game expansions, time cards, etc then I am fine with that. That makes more sense to me then sending people to Wal-Mart for crap you can do online. Now, if they are talking about selling in-game items that have any appreciable effect whatsoever, meaning items or pre-developed character - what-have-you; then I will not touch this game with a ten foot pole. And no matter how many people decry it's superiority I will shout from the highest rooftops that is is an evil piece of crap. Ok, I may be getting carried away.

If this is the future of MMO's then I will happily go back to offline games, FPS games, etc.

I also believe this cracks the door just a bit wider on the idea of taxation in virtual economies. There might even be an argument for property taxes in this.

Games are for fun.

The above is true. While EA may own Bioware and said they will have Microtransactions Bioware came back and said that nothing has been officialy announced.

So as it stands, while it seems Microtransaction are on the table and even likely to happen, we do not know for sure so should all just wait and see.
