Hi there, just a quick question.

My account has been deactivated for about a year, but with all the accolades the new expansion is getting, it has been difficult to ignore.

I have purchased the new expansion, but will adding this expansion to my turbine account reactive my LOTRO account and give me 30 days free? Or will I still be responsible for paying to get the account reactivated?

I ask this because in my past gaming experiences, expansions did not give free game time. Back in EQ, if you bought an expansion that was great an all, but it did not have anything to do with your account's current subscription.

I know I can always make a new account to get the free 30 days, but if I could get my old characters back by using my old account, that would be even better.

Thanks for your help.

I used my 14 day free trial from a founder, then after 12 days I activated the CE for MoM ( I had never played LOTRO before ) and I am still on my free 30 days after the 14 days were up. Not sure if it is the same since you already have an account but if you aren't too high than I suggest starting over. The Rune-Keeper is a ton of fun and I have been absolutely impressed with this game thus far.

Was my question really that ridiculous? I figured since the box says 30 days free, it would be strange to give 30 days free to some players and not to others. Since this is an all inclusive pack, I wasnt sure if it was an across the board 30 days free to anyone who buys and activates.

I guess I will just make a new account.

If you went with digital download no free time. All others I am pretty sure give you free time added even to an old account. I'm not positive but I am pretty sure I remember people talking about this on the official forums. Might want to check around just a bit more before you do anything like make a new account. I wouldn't know like other people because I have the lifetime so I just buy expacs and away I go. I'll try to check it out for you though.

From what I found the complete and collector's edition give you an extra 30 days, the digital does not. Hope that helped.

Now that I think about it you should just call their customer support number.

This is what I was thinking as well, as the account help FAQ alludes to this but isnt exactly specific to my situation. Unfortunatly unless your account is active, you cannot post on the official forums to ask. I'll poke around and see what  I can find.

Thanks for the help.

I'll ask for you. Give me some time though.

Ok, I just posted on the official forums. So when they get back to me I will get back to you.

The 30 days is only if you make a new account. I was in a similar boat and upgraded and started playing again on my old account, and it charged me immidiately upon activation. I expected this though as genearlly the 30day deals are only for new subs. (edit: In fact, if I recall correctly you need to activate your account again before it will allow you to upgrade it anyway).

This is the answer I got.

Yes, when you enter the retail key into your account, the billing date will be moved back 30 days, thus giving you 30 days of free play. Now, depending on how your account was deactivated, you may or may not have to activate it by paying whatever your previous subscription rate was when the account was deactivated. This would be more, for example, if you failed to cancel it and didn't make a payment for the previous subscription. If a payment is required to reactivate, the retail key will still add an additional 30 days of free play on to it.

I just tried adding my Mines of Moria key to an account I canceled a few months back.  I got a message that said keys can't be added to inactive accounts.  I had to pay to reactivate my account, but then was credited with an additional 30 days from Mines of Moria.  So you do get 30 free days.

Ok, I think I got this now. They will not let you add an expansion key to an account that is not currently active. You have to pay the $15 (or whatver you decided) to get it activated again, which gives you 30 days of playtime. Now, when you activate the key, it gives you another 30 days, pushing back the next charge to 60 days.

So if I want to play this game on my old account, I will have to pay the $15 to turn it back on. Hmmm, not sure what I am gonna do.

Could anyone suggest a good server for a someone starting a completely new account? hehe

Dont know how Turbine does it, at codemasters you dont have to pay anything to reactivate your account.

I disabled my lotro account during the time I beta'd Spellborn, after, I reactived my account when I bought MoM special edition (60 days free playtime included). Used one key-code to re-activate my old account, and then used another key-code, included in the box, to give my old re-actived account 60 days free play-time. I didnt pay one penny, other then the MoM box obviously.

This is an exact quote from Victorie who is Turbine Customer Support.

The box from the store includes 30 free days. Cost for the complete edition is $39.99, while the collector's edition is $79.99. Both include the free time.

The digital upgrade does not (unless you are upgrading a trial subscription). Digital upgrade from SoA is $29.99, and does not include free time. Digital upgrade from any sort of a trial is $39.99, and this does include free time.

However, the account has to be active in order to receive the free time. So if it isn't already active, you do have to reinstate for at least a month. Then the free time is added to the end of whatever subscription plan you pick.

So since you have let your sub expire you have to resub then add the code and you get your free 30 after the first 30 that you resubed for.

Yep, you are exactly correct. If your characters weren't that high I could see you bypassing the $15 fee but then again you will end up with 2 months overall. If your characters are higher level then it won't take as long to get to the expansion areas which is probbly why you bought an expansion for.
