Hi All,

Been playing the game for a month and hit Fame lvl 19 - managed to register and subscribe (pay) via proxy.

Looks like they've now fixed the billing so this is no longer possible to pay, you are still able to make a free account though.

Reccomend checking the game out - its very good.

Shame i can no longer play :(

I presume you used a browser based proxy?

Have a look around - there are ways you can use a proxy to access Paypal, and there's not much security tougher than there

Just a question...why the hell bother going threw so much trouble? If the devs of this game n the publishers don't care enouph to release to your area...why are you so hard up to give them money?

Yes the OP is definatly correct. Here is the response to mine and others forum posts and support tickets:

 

Atomo, SunChild and SnakeCharmer, you all belong to territories that should be using the Acclaim version.
You obviously know this since you all tried to use proxies too circumvent our IP-block to create a character and try to subscribe.

I can see your point.
However at this time there is no Acclaim version, or any other version that I know of. I understand that there is an agreement between parties to sector the world into territories for the subscription of TCOS. But at the time of writing this post, this version of TCOS is the only one available.
The breaking up of the world for subscriptions and servers is a directly against (what I see) as the intent of the world wide web and the reason allot of people engage in MMO's instead of just playing single player games. This self defeating business model can only harm the game as a whole, splitting countries, guilds and players from what many of us find so appealing in MMO, that is the community and interaction with others from different areas of the world and life styles.
Now I do realise that this decision is probly beyond your control, but this is the forum for this MMO (that incidentally I think has amazing promise). I do not know non have heard of any players that prefer this model of sectoring, there for I can only assume that in making this decision the publishers and developers did not take into consideration the wants of the consumers of this product. How then can these same consumers believe that the companies that run TCOS in any way care about the players outside of there money.
I feel for the original developers and there hard work in creating a game for people that will never reach them in a way that I believe they intended.

Oh just to respond about the "pretend to be an innocent and angery customer".. Yes I was frustrated but I have my real address in the registeration and billing I never said/typed that I was from anywhere that I am not.

They should be thanking anyone that tries their unweildy bug riidden product anyway... yet another Future Fail because the devlopers had their heads up their asses.

Just looking at this logically....Almost mid Jan and still no launch,(Not even a hint at closed beta)  and little to no communication from Acclaim, they have two talking heads on their forums and even they have no clue when or even if the product will launch, also look at the Mindscape launch to say it was a non-event is a understatement ....So Acclaim has to ask themselves ..Should we go ahead? Will anyone subscribe especially considering the Eastern Block publisher obviously hates Americans (And Brits, )...in this dime a dozen MMO market I just don't see a smart company sticking with this problem ridden group.

Because he is right at some point?

Face it! The servers are dead! Except for some people running around in the F2P areas, all the P2P zones are ghosttowns.

Mindscape screwed up so bad. They don't even have a single clue when Mindscape is going to pull their heads out of their asses and try market and deliver gameboxes to whole Scandinavia!

So basically the only people playing on the International servers are from Holland and Belgium, as these two small countries is all Mindscape were able to actually deliver gameboxes!

It's just one big farce at the moment!

And it's just a matter of time till the current few people paying for this BETA are getting totally fed up with all the Inactions and Soon TM statements and quit too!

It clearly shows they don't give a rats ass about the current region they have released in and are more focussed on the Acclaim territory and Frogster releasing in Asia!

We are just guinea pigs at the moment and they even have the guts to charge us for it!

That's why I insta canceled within the first month!

They don't even have a ingame support in place. Everything goes through an email system wich takes ages to get an answer on!

And the most hilarious thing is... that I am completely puzzled why they even bothered releasing PVP servers, while there isn't even a Arena / PVP system in place at all!

You lose a full PeP level at every death and are not able to (re)build PeP through PVP either! So people avoid PVP like the plague! Because there simply is no point to do any PVP!

get your facts straight? Mindscape is just a small time publisher. Frogster Interactive is also a publisher in Europe of the game and they control whole asia. If you want to blame someone, blame them.

Mindscape has nothing to do at the moment with the support of the game, all they did was publish the game in some countries

 

And you might not like it, but the developers made a contract with their publisher(S), yes as in multiple publishers so also your Acclaim. The developers also have no choice but to abide by those rules set in their contract.

you can't just make a contract with the ip block included and then ignore it when the game launches. And yes i know about the empty servers and you're really not the only person annoyed by it. Several developers also find it a real bad move, but they're just developers in the end, not the marketing guys or managers....

 

and this is what i hope:

either the IP block gets lifted(Yeah when pigs fly i guess....)

Or the countries of "Europe" get handed over to Acclaim(when sheep fly?...)

final possibilty is that the 6 servers get merged to 1 pvp and 1 pve server. As long as the game generates enough revenue in Acclaim countries and Asia, then the game is still a financial success

I can assure you that Acclaim is not in any way thinking of "dumping" Spellborn. We've had some issues getting the client and servers ready, but we are still going to be releasing hte game.

Any issues can cause delays.... delays that we might not have a definate time frame for resolution. It is these uncertainties that keep us from announcing a firm launch date.

Once we have a date, we will let the community know.

Dude, I am dutch myself and live in Oslo now.

They should have never given the deal to Mindscape in the first place, if they are so small time publisher.

Hell, whole scandinavia isn't even on their distribution map! Yet Spellborn let them handle it!

It was doomed to fail in the first place if they did some research on Mindscape and their distribution map!

How in earth are they gonna fill the current international servers if they have no clue on when (if ever) Mindscape is going to expand their distribution map and actually deliver to Scandinavia??

Face it! It's pretty clear we need the scandinavian countries to fill up the two servers!

So how long are you going to play and PAY for BETA on an EMPTY server in a desperate hope to ever getting enough players on our server?

Sorry, but not me! I am done believing empty promisses and Soon TM statements.

Also, about loss of PeP ranks is not an issue you can play the game without PeP. Plus while in battle you boost the stastics with abilities anyway.

So if you don't want to lose PeP, then I guess your a want to be ganker that will not gank in this game. I think PVP should have some kind of cost to it... It gets the heart pumping!

i agree that we need the scandinavian countries for the EU servers.

I do think that a situation like choosing a publisher is a bit more complex then just "hey that company got tons of money, let's sell out game to them!" :)

It's not just what you can get from the publisher, but also what you have to give to the publisher. For example, how much influence do they want on the development of the game itself? It could be that Mindscape offered to publish the game in return for little influence who knows, probably only the devs or mindscape people could tell us.

And i didn't pay for the game, got it for free and i also won't be playing on an empty server after March, because then my 3 month free play time ends.

regarding the beta i also agree that i rather would've them see the game released AFTER patch 1.0.2, but reality is that you can't really postpone the launch all the time, because money isn't something that just pops out of the ground. sad but true.

But really, blaming all the fault of EU on Mindscape is a bit much, Acclaim and Frogster Interactive also have their part in it imo. If there wasn't an IP block, the game would've flourished by now.

If you even know about the game, yet even tried it, then you know there are NO mounts in the game.

And with the pleatora of FedEx quests in the game wich require a LOT of long traveling, then you really want those PeP ranks!! As it's the only way to increase your movement speed in this game!

And why would anyone going to PVP, just to lose those hard earned PeP ranks? There is nothing to gain. No system whatsoever that rewards anything at all at the moment for PVP... only punishing you by taking away PeP ranks!

It's basically the sole reason the PVP servers are even more empty then the PVE ones.

People are avoiding PVP like the plague, because it's pointless right now.

You speak as if you represent Acclaim. If so, you should ask MMORPG mods to set your title to Community Manager or something.

And if you do represent Acclaim, boy are we glad to see you.  You'll get an earful for sure, not the least being that I'll have to call shenanigans on your claim that indefinite delays are occurring.  I develop software for a living and am required to always work towards a firm, published delivery date.

Do we always hit it? Nope.  When that happens, we reschedule and work towards the new target date.

You are taking a major cop-out with your reply saying there's no way to set a definite launch dates, I'm just not buying that excuse.

It is our policy to not set dates unless we are 110% sure of hitting them and in the case of Spellborn a date was announced and missed. So we've not only broke our policy, we've slipped on a date.

I'm not calling you a liar, I'm saying I disagree with your policy.  But in all fairness, setting and missing dates probably has a much greater impact in terms of customer confidence in the product than in my industry/customer base, so I suppose I can understand the reasons behind it.

So you haven't set a release date by choice, and resolution of the issues lies outside your control, so I'll assume you're waiting on either the developers or some external hardware/software or service vendor. (doesn't matter which ones really)

And no, I don't think for a minute that you would hold the game back for no reason, you're in this to make money, and you'll only get one good shot at it, which is currently being put at risk by the EU release which I don't need to point out to you.

Again, I'm really glad your here, so far there's been a lot of negative posting about the game, some based on speculation, some based on fact (from the EU version) and some simply because there's been a lack of information which serves to raise doubt all by itself. (see DFO for a good example)

Hopefully Acclaim will be able to share more information to their potential US customer base in the near future.

Guys, just accept what is being said here, please?

I understand a lot of people have taken offense at the IP blocks, but lets not project that frustration beyond that issue? It just muddies the water and creates bad feeling for the entire game, and it dosent deserve that.

I personally have been playing TCoS via proxy a while now, but I know I'm being cheeky. I know I'm breaking the rules, and so I accepted that it will end when I am caught  or they chose to blanket block. Being called out for this by Acclaim is justified and fair.

My only gripe about the way that Acclaim has been handling this game in the past has been their lack of communication, but this has not only been fixed but my expectations have now been surpassed. Kudos to them, and Historian, for that. I believe they did listen.

The game will be launched here when it is ready. Why would you want it before? As long as their is communication and activity from CRs, then I am very happy to wait.

My only gripe about the way that Acclaim has been handling this game in the past has been their lack of communication, but this has not only been fixed but my expectations have now been surpassed. Kudos to them, and Historian, for that. I believe they did listen.

The game will be launched here when it is ready. Why would you want it before? As long as their is communication and activity from CRs, then I am very happy to wait.

Be glad Acclaim isn't releasing it right now.

The gameworld is amazing (and I mean it!), the combat system is fun and engaging. Most of the quests are pretty fun. mob AI is really good. Refreshing to finally see an actual mob AI in an MMO.

BUT:

There are several much needed KEY features missing in this game, like a bank and marketplace ...or the PVP / Arena system for instance (Im clueless why they even bothered launching PVP servers while it's completely pointless right now to PVP), no Grouping tools like Search for Group, chat system bit primitive and lacking (much optimisation needed here) ....

plus quite a few important and major quest chains are bugged!! ....

that the game will bomb Big Time if Acclaim releases it right now in it's current state.

Oh... and they don't even have an ingame Ticket and GM system in place yet either!! 

So if Acclaim is smart... let them wait 2-3 months more and let them put some presure on Spellborn NV to AT LEAST implement a bank and marketplace into the game and some features to make PVP at least viable.

pressure alone is not always not enough, sometimes they just don't got he manpower/resources to do everything at the same time. The more money = the more resources = the more manpower = the more features :)
