The folks at The Chronicles of Spellborn have posted a game update which details their plans for the game in the near and far future. The plans include a new content patch which adds new enemies and instances, as well as a much needed tutorial. Mid range plans for the game include the addition of the marketplace and PvP opportunities.

With regards to short term planning, a new content patch is going to be rolled out soon (we expect it for end of January), which, among many quests and bug fixes, will also introduce new unique outdoor monsters (called Menaces, from which you might already know the cuddly “Tiny Tyke”). In the coming week, we’ll reveal some of these new Menaces on our website.

But the biggest chunk of this patch is undoubtedly the upcoming “Tutorial”. After reading the various comments from the community, and also from the various press reviews about Spellborn, we decided it was needed to implement a tutorial explaining basic movements, camera control, NPC interactions and combat controls in a dedicated area of the game, before players set foot on Hawksmouth Square. With this new system, we aim to provide all the tools to newcomers to have a great first-time experience which will motivate them and allow them to play the game further with greater enjoyment.

Also, we will invite you, the players, to experience the new instance in the Deadspell Storm called Exarchyon. This massive dungeon will take the players inside the raftyard-based headquarters of the Brotherhood of the Glaive, a hostile faction where many encounters and challenges await. The instance is aimed at players of Fame Level 20 to 25.

To sum up what I was looking for: still no US release date even mentioned despite talk of short/mid/long range plans for 2009.

This is really painfull... i've been waiting for this game since they announced working on it and even played the euro version till level 7 (shhhh don't tell anyone). But i'm not going to subscribe to a game that technically i'm not supposed to be... I WANT TO PLAY IT!!!!!! :( they should have at least said SOMETHING about the NA release.... anything even a  "Never gonna happen" would have been at least somethign to ease the pain.

Seriously, Spellborn NV? No NA release talk? I'm convinced you don't really care about the NA market. Why you ask? Because  any self-respecting studio wanting to make a splash in the NA MMO market would be throwing a fit because of Acclaim's lack of marketing and communication with would-be fans/players. It seems to me TCoS will be one of those cases of "if a tree falls in a forest, but there's no one to hear, does it make a noise?"

Peace.

That, or they already knew how Acclaim is with MMOs, but they just don't care, cause they knw people will buy it anyways when it does eventually come out. :P

"People" might try the game once it's eventually out. Perhaps Acclaim wants to charge for the game upfront? Or perhaps they want a higher subscription fee? What's really annoying is the virtual silence from both Acclaim and Spellborn NV wrt NA release.

Peace.

I was so hoping for the news that they were ditching Acclaim Games as publisher and actually going with a publisher who knew what they were doing. Oh well....

Spellborn devs:

Hi! We're not going to tell you jack squat about anything that's really important, like if you'll ever be able to play our game. But we will tell you that we're going to put in a marketplace! yes, that's right! You will now have a marketplace to buy and sell just like every other game out there, only it's so special that we consider it a feature!! Keep your pocketbooks ready! We'll get to you someday!!

Fanbois: Yay me!!!

This is a crappy update.  When does NA get to play?

I think something must be wrong over there.  The game must suck or something, because they don't appear to be very excited about their own game.

Oh, and Happy New Year :)

If I'm correct, you can't go through acclaim, their accounts for this game will be US only, you'd have to register through another site.

WHEN DO WE GET TO PLAY IN NORTH AMERICA?????? enough silence already.

This is a load of crap to tell me about a game I should be playing already. Completely unimportant information to me. I want to play yesterday. I want to see beyond lvl 7.8. I remember once upon a time reading that release for NA was today. The game is up and stable. Why is this taking so bloody long?

I registered to Spellborn and downloaded client  through a UK site..I think it listed frogster as publisher..then when I verified email...it re-directs to the publisher for my region..Acclaim.

Nothing can possiblie go wrong.

That's all good and stuff.... but I can't enjoy any of it if I can't play it. Come now, update at least on what the status is for the rest of us US players who have been patiently waiting.

Cynical? Me? Never.

I can see it already. Acclaim is going to treat US customers like GoA of Mythic treats our European counterparts. Thanks, but no thanks.

I re-read thru the new "update" and obviously a North American release is not a part of their 2009 plans

I'm pretty sure the update was for the players in EU (those of EU that can play, that is) and I wouldn't think that the US release is much of relevance for the EU community. Could be an explanation for the lack of such info.. idunno.

Even mmorpg.com states it's for the "Players" and the source is linked to the EU forums.

Im in the United Kingdom (Europe) but can't play thanks to acclaim picking it up... Acclaim release is down to acclaim so moan at them. Personaly was looking forward to this game but will not play it as its Acclaim and well acclaim have a history of pushing games out with the goal to make money devolopement/customer experience is always at the bottom of their list.

Acclaim is a piece of steaming dog turd, but in this case the Spellborn devs are just as much to blame. Apparently, Acclaim is STILL waiting for the beta code from the devs.

Agreed on both accounts. However, spellborn NV has a bigger fault. As I said in a previous post, they *AGREED* to have regional splits and regional IP bans. As a developer in a cutthroat market that amounts to an EPIC FAIL.

Having a game coming out in parts of Europe but being blocked in the rest of the world kind of defeats the purpose of an MMO. Thanks but no thanks.

Yep this update means nothing.

I 'm in the game since few days. Not bad , refreshing, areas are cool, music is nice. Seems polished game at the start (few bugs) but... this game is far from beeing finished afterall: a lot of broken quests pasts lvl 26, areas useless (PVP areas in PVE serv ), i 'm not sure I could play 3 months to TCOS. Not enough content. Imo can play 1 month maybe 45 days no more.  AI is strange, sometimes impressive sometimes ridiculous.

Design is strange: our chars are...hmm.. strange ? But the areas are nice (imo)

Few people in the game. And this update means nothing yes, we can't pay 12 month for a market at the end of 2009. Refreshing, interesting but  don't expect a new Lotro EQ2 or War.  I'ts a small mmo made by a small cy. Not enough co,ntent, not enough patches, a "crappy update", hope this game is not going to disappear in 3 months... A tutorial is NOT content of course...

Took also months for Lotro and War ok ? All players I know (most of them lol) plays both Lotro/TCOS, WAR/TCOS etc.

I don't expect a big success for this game. Not crappy, not a beta, nice, but not enough content and maybe No HL content... Not a crappy game, interesting ideas, nice and refreshing, really, works fine, but an unfinished game for sure.

I'm no grammar paragon but you should work on improving yours. While I'm suspect that you might not be a native English speaker (and I appreciate your effort for trying), the poor grammar burries the message you're trying to convey.
