To me it looks as though they're taking the FFTA art style and running with it, the Viera, and Moogles are a clear testament to that.  I personally have no problem with this, as i thought the art style in ffta (while a smidge cutsy) was a nice departure from the usual queerbate main character and scantily clad sidekicks.  Unfortunately, there have been no actual releases of information regarding this "Project Rapture" at this time, unless someone else has info, please post it.

old news and (sorry to do this to you) it was an april fools thing.

If they go to Ivalice (which i think is a possibility in fact I think Ivilice is just on the other side of the world of FFXI and we have not gotten over that far yet) then you have moogles ... and everyone will be a moogle or at the very least use them for a mule.

Update: Everyone has been debating: Joke? No joke?

Credit for the screenshots go to Estya of Ramuh or StarvingArtist from Dreams in Vana'diel. He e-mailed me on Monday asking if I could help him pull off an April Fool's joke and attached the screens you saw. We thought they looked convincing enough to cause waves and boy did we get them! Myself, Vlorsutes, and Thayos all helped write the article. We gave Estya a month of free premium for the idea and material.

The story made it to Google News and got some diggs. I dunno where else they started popping up, but we found it amusing. Hope everyone had a great April Fool's Day!

rapture exists? no1 knows.. i guess you better go E3 to check it out.

  It had been rumored for a while, but indeed it does exist according to Square during GDC 2008 (and earlier even).  They finally confirmed they are working on a new mmo codenamed "Rapture".  They apparently are aiming for a release on Xbox360, PS3 and PC but have not given any other real info let alone a timeframe.  It will also be running on Square's own Crystal Tools Engine.

The first tech demo was shown in 2005, but who knows if that will have anything to do with the final game. www.youtube.com/watch

  They continue to say that they will support FFXI as long as there are players.....

So....hopefully E3 2009 will have some juicy info on this and some of the other Square projects.

I have jumped around to a few MMO's but nothing has really caught my attention like FFXI did.  I have a feeling that SE will go the more casual route with this new MMO to make it appeal to the masses (Heck look how much easier FFXI is now compared to a few years ago)*sigh.     Either way I am very excited to finally see something about it  at this years E3 maybe an actual name would be nice.
