Sorry I'm a bit tired, but I have a theory on this.

Really, there's a lot of game companies out there that use an already built engine. So usually all they need to do is base the minimum requirements on the engine and build up from there.

However, DFO is a custom engine, complete with a scaling engine (which I don't believe yet honestly) and if that is the case, it's a bit tough to figure out the min/max requirements. Granted, they could just throw something out there with no problem, but there's another game that did this:

Age of Conan (until they optimized all their code)

That is utter bullshit man. It only proves the more about the state of the game and how it has been tested. If tested at all.

It's friggin easy to determine the minimum system specs.

You just need a dozen PC's with various performance configurations and lot easier.. having plenty of closed beta testers with a wide enough range of hardware specs...

...and tada you can formulate the minimum hardware requirements.

Seriously, the moment a Closed Beta is starting.... shortly after they have minimum system requirements posted on the websites. Usually before already, when they did a inhouse hardware spec test.

It has always been this way with every friggin' game. Existing or Custom engine. Doesn't matter.

But as they never bother to update their own website. Hence the launchdate is still not on the frontpage lol.

Why am I not suprised that something vital and important as minimum system requirements are still not available.

Cheers

there an event going on today and forum fallers are going there and they are allowed  to ask question to tasos im sure some of this stuff will be answerd

who gives a shit guys, I mean seriously...

Take a hint from ID software, it's done when it's done. If they like waving arbitrary dates around to stir people up like Valve and HL2 did, more power to them.

It's obviously finishing up now, it'll be out in a few months at most, just sit back and relax.

You walk uninvited into someones kitchen seeking warm food, do you have the right to be angry on how long it takes for them to cook you the food?

If I'm paying for it and have been waiting hungrily for the past three years while the cook says "Just a minute it'll be ready soon", then I suppose I do have the right to complain.

Also it's not like anyone is walking in uninvited is it?  They're inviting us in and asking us to put our feet up and pay for the best meal of our lives. I looked at the menu years ago and went elsewhere, others are still waiting, some have long since died of hunger. Infact that kitchen is more of a festering morgue now than a kitchen.

Tell that MOD that if he enjoys eating Aventurine DEV excrement that's his decision, just keep it to himself!

you trolls crack me up.

i'm going to go to the hardware store, i'm short on the rope I need to tie you down to play this game.

After teh game launches i hope you take your protest signs and head elsewhere because we dont want you playing the game anyway.  If you do play the game I look forward to seeing you in the field.

I can just imagine the outcry if the game is delayed.  Why not go someplace sit down drink a nice cup of tea and admire nature or something while the developers finish up making one of the more complicated computer programs we've seen to date.

Darkfall doesn't require specs. It will run on any computer every built.

I know this info is old, but it still is credible evidence that the game is real

All good questions OP but is there a specific way or law on how to release a game?  Is it just possible this company may do things differently even though it may look suspicious to us?  Remember this is not a main stream developer who has spent 1000's of hours and resource poured into flashy animation and podcasts of jumping developers acting out their fetishes in-game.

I always stand by the fact that if the game is good, not even great, just good then it will be profitable (maybe not huge) but very profitable due to word of mouth and players experience.  So we can talk about how, what, if, when and anything else but really no one except Adventurine know and I for one will hold back judgement until they launch.

For once its a nice change to see a company holding back on the advertising and marketing.  I am sick of all the hype and arm waving prior to release.  I would prefer to see the game for what it is and not go in thinking its the second coming of MMO's!

Tasos saying himself that the game is "feature complete and ready for launch" many months ago isn't hype?

How about him telling us last September that it would launch before the end of 2008?  Not hype at all huh?

He has also told us something to the effect that it is running better then any current mmo or something to that effect.  Nope, not hype at all, is it?

What about his promises of beta by 2005.  Nope, I agree that wasn't hype.  That was an outright LIE.  As have been many of his "non-hype" statements of recent years.  Lies.  Nothing but lies and more lies.  As is his Jan 22, 2009 release date.

I will agree with you.  Almost everything Tasos has told us over the years hasn't been "hype".  It's been total bullshit and LIES.

There was a beta in 05

1 month late big deal.  Probably couldn't get the publisher to agree to launch that early

3 compines have stated that the game will be launched soon: Advertine, Audiovisual, and CNi (server company) 2 have announced publically that launch date is on the 22nd. This means 3 compaines will be hurt by not keeping that date. Why would they all lie.

All feature complete and ready to launch means is that its rdy for beta anyways

If you've been cooking for food for years while promising how delicious and satisfying it will be, while showing you pictures and movies of the hot steaming platter of yumminess...AND are eventually charging you for it...yes.

That being said, I don't expect to see jack on the 22nd.

I have to say, I'm disheartened by the lack of information.  But its still not the 22nd so I'll withhold any serious slams until then.

Haven't read most of the posts here but I was thinking that this whole no info thing is just some kind of marketing scheme. The whole darkfall game is a bit of a mystery and everybody loves mysterys, right?

I for one can't wait for your "serious slams".

Meow Meow Mix please deliver.

If anyone is curious as to why "no news" 2 weeks from release actually constitutes "good news" I can recommend the official forums for plenty of explanations.

So you consider a game with outdated graphics, terrible animations and the most generic basic shitty looking gameplay you can possibly have to be "one of the most complicated computer programs we've seen to date?"

Those aspects are a matter of opinion genius.  There are far more aspects to making a game then the most recent direct x 10 renders....this type of thinking is what has shitified the mmorpg market for the last 4 years now.

I have something called an imagination that can be employed to greater or lesser degrees. Im also willing to sacrifice many FPS for the ability to hide behind a rock until someone comes by.

Maybe difference people want different things from a game did you ever stop to think of that or are you just too busy flaming darkfall?
