I played DAoC from release up until people dropped off the servers and now have played War since release. War's RvR is the best!! No other mmo out there even comes close to touching it. WoW and AoC suck, I played those at release and some expansions packs on WoW. Don't listen to these 12 year old idiots who think after playing WoW that they know something, (WoW is not what a real mmo is all about , its made for the masses, not real mmo players). War works great for solo play (mostly what I do) and even better for group play. The ORvR they added is great, nice to get rewards for killing people while I wait for a RvR scenario to open up. All in all, if your worried about $50, wait a year, then they will have a demo out most likely. Or, take a chance and get it, you might find that its between the best or worst game you ever played :P. |

I enjoy WAR. Personally, I've played almost every major MMO since Everquest. Played WoW for the longest, but left due to the high amount of time involved with end game guild raids. WAR is nice because you can participate in RvR (PvP) at any level, Open RvR or Scenarios. There are not a lot of big dungeons, but I haven't done much PVE raiding yet. People say the PvE world is not big enough, but you can always fly to one of three areas that have content for your level. There is a "recruit a friend" program, which allows you to try the game for a bit. Why not ask around and get a key for the trial, then make your own assesment. |

ORvR should not have been an add-on, and RVR scenarios made it a WOW clone, and not a successor to DAOC. Add to the fact its really a game and not a world like DAOC was, and you begin to understand why the game didn't work out fo rme. Doesn't mean the game is bad, if you prefer a heavy focus on getting in and out of combat quick and easy, with no real risk or reward, WAR is your game. Like most of the other folks said, only you can decide for yourself whether you will like WAR or not.

The game has improved alot on the mistakes at launch, especially the RVR. 2 of my RL friends still play and they are having a blast. I went back to EVE online, and will probably stick with it for a good long time, but that game is not for everyone. Either way WAR is a great game with alot of fun to be had, they just made some wrong decisions at 1st, but most is corrected now. RVR is very active atm ( seen it on my friends PC ). The game is different then WoW and like 200% better then AoC, AoC was beyond repair, WAR just needed a few tweaks. ( So RvR become more important then scenarios ) So again, it is really worth the 50 bucks.

Just to add to what I said before. The ORvR is starting to pick up a lot more now that they released the gear for it. With rewards for ORvR people are almost always jumping some area that you can take. Also they are adding new classes without costly expansions.
Now again: If anyone wants to try the game and find out for themselves msg me on here and I will generate a "recruit a friend" code for you. Then try it and see if you like it. To each there own..... |

To be honest i'd wait, my feeling overall is the game is it's walking on the edge of an abyss and just a small nudge could send it toppleing into that abyss never to be seen again. |

Best advice would be, try and get a trial key and try it that way before deciding to buy it. Honestly It doesn't appeal to everyone. I play it myself and I won't even recommend it to my friends untill i have can help them via trial keys so they can decide for themselves. |

IM waiting until they add the other two classes and tweak crafting, quests/dungeons and add the other cities in before I try it again. I played it for two months and I enjoyed it. I would rather be paying for and playing Eve so ill check back later on.
Right now dungeons are lacking none PQ quests are lacking, Crafting needs some love and the other cities need to be added even if they arent raidable it would be good for questing and dungeons. PLaying: EvE, Ryzom Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum |

Unless WAR still has more then half of its subs I believe FFXI is the most popular MMO in NA/Euro other then WoW. I know lotro is near the 200k mark and AoC can't be over 200k either. PLaying: EvE, Ryzom Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum |

I never add in Eve with these other mmos, Personally I feel eve should be classified as a different MMO genre all together. Its a totally different type of game Ill put eve head to head with games like Jumpgate and STO later in the year. But yeah if you wanna get technical yes Eve is up there right behind WoWs bazillion players and FFXI 500k+. PLaying: EvE, Ryzom Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum |

I never wish any game to have low sub numbers (unless it pisses me off with something evil like a cash shop ./stares at SoE) I thought WAR was a good game and if it has that many subs still im happy for all of you guys that enjoy it. It still pisses me off that noone is playing LotRO when that game is stellar also. PLaying: EvE, Ryzom Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum |

I was going to try LoTR. I like playing the Bad side (Horde on WoW and Chaos on WAR). Can you play the Orki (or whatever they are called)? |

Originally posted by Rydran There is this thing called "Player vs. Monster" where you can play as Orcs, wolves, spiders, or some of the other "bad" guys. However it's very limited and pretty shallow PvP-wise, and all the PvE is focused on the "good" guys, like Dwarves, Hobbits, Elves, and Men. *Points to my avatar picture, and then notes you said "Chaos in WAR"...* That's an Empire shield -------------------------------------- Order of the White Border. |

I say but it now, no need to wait. I played at launch, and for a while I thought it might be another game that I was bored with after the first month. It was partially my fault for plying it strictly as a PvE game, but that is how I always played MMOs in the past. I started to dip my foot in to RvR with scenarios and found out I really enjoyed the PvP action in this game. Unfortunately at launch there wasn't any open RvR action to speak of. Since they added area influence for open RvR, there is a constant rolling battle across all the tiers. I can log in any time of day and find a group rolling battlefield objectives, sieging or defending keeps. I have really not enjoyed a game this much in a long time. I'm enjoying it so much that I don't have time to keep up with the forums here. So I don't know what the supposed "problems" with the game are. I just know I have fun playing, I never feel like it's a grind and I get phat loot as a bonus. I'm going to copy a post I made in my guild forum yesterday, rather than type it all again. ;) If you decide to get the game and you roll an order character look for me on the Red Eye Mountain server... if you roll destruction look out for me. ;) / Edit after reading the whole thread..... I want to point out that most of what people are complaining about from launch is already corrected. There wasn't much incentive to do open world RvR, because it was easier to obtain RvR rewards through running scenarios over and over. The simple solution was to give open RvR it's own influence and rewards. You still gain renown from any kind of RvR, but you also gain area influence for each region in open RvR. As far as RvR participation goes, what WAR is right now is what I'd hoped for in DAoC. ===================== ===================== I can't believe no one wants to play this game with us. It really does kick ass. It took a while, a server transfer and a re-roll for the game to really grow on me.... but now I love it. I haven't enjoyed a game this much in years. Maybe since we were playing guild wars, and that was woefully brief. Since launch they added a separate influence system for open world RvR, and it completely changed how people are playing the game. I have been playing 5 or 6.. or 12 hours a day doing Keep siege and defense pretty much all the time. The open party system is great. No standing around yelling for what you need. Just start playing and the group fills up as you go along. We always start out playing with our group of three and we usually have a full warband of 24 within 10 or 15 minutes. Then we just roll through the maps taking keeps and trying to hold them, sometimes getting our asses handed to us, but generally handing out more than we receive. Each RvR region has it's own influence rewards and they are different for each area in a tier, so if you spend time in each one you end up with some bad ass purple gear, or gold gear if you roll good after a keep siege. Your renown goes up with kills, caps and defense too, so you get several different choices on gear just from RvR. I'm having so much fun playing, I dont even care if I level. It's just a pleasant side effect. I was starting to think i was just bored with MMOs all together, but it turns out I was just bored with stupid quests. Quests designed with the sole purpose of making me spend time to buy a reward. Then I could use that reward to make me slightly more effective while I spend some more of my time to buy a marginally better reward again. Now, I just want to log on and kick some Destro out of our keeps, or better yet, out of theirs. All the same carrots exist to motivate me, but I dont have to mindlessly jump through hoops to get them. If haven't played the game yet, I have some free trial codes I can give out. I'll even roll an alt to level with you. The RvR is pretty good at every level right now. If you have played, it only costs 15 bucks to see how much better it is now than it was at launch. [/quote] |

HAHAHA! Ascension08. I like the Avatar. I would love to see you on the battlefield. I play on Zolkmar (I did just reroll my main. so I am only lvl 13 right now) but want to move to a ORvR server. Look for the Maruader with your buddies bodies laying at my feet. =P (J/K) |
