is tasos(DF staff) using some kind of social engineering ?
in my eye their way to develop the game got allot of attention, DF got allot of fans and haters that make them free publicity
anyone got that feeling ? or is just me

I's just you. Any game that's been in development that long produces similar results. It doesn't affect the outcome though. People find good games and dump bad ones.

I agree. Any game in development this long will generate this much attention.

The problem is MOST companies will go out of business if they stay in development this long.

The DF devs have just been fortunate enough to get funding to hang in there this long. I'ts not a strategy, just a matter of getting funding. Most investors won't wait this long to get a return on investment.

I've heard they got some funding from the Greek government. I don't know if this is true, but if it is that would explain their ability to stay in development for so long without their investors pulling the plug on them.

Or to put it another way, imagine if you worked at a company and someone said this:

Hey guys. I have a great plan for publicity! Let's stay in development so long that people begin to argue about whether or not our game is vaporware. This way we can save money on advertising! What do you think? Guys?

Seriously OP, what do you think "their way" is? You really think they could have made the game a lot faster, but just tried to do it slowly for free publicity? I don't think that's plausible.

What hype?  You mean on gaming forums focusing on MMO games?  Because outside of these type of sites I have not seen much talk about Darkfall at all.

Here's a little experiment.  Walk up to 50 people on the street and ask them if they have heard of a game called World of Warcraft.  Take note of how many people have heard of it.  Now do the same thing with Darkfall.  Unless there is a fluke, I guarantee that no one will have heard of it, but at least some will have heard of WoW.

I have about 20 gamer friends that have played MMO games from UO to WAR but they just play, they don't go to the forums like I do.  When I mentioned on vent one night that the Darkfall release date had finally been announced I got a lot of, "What's that?" responses.

Bioware did not make Knights of the old Republic 2.

Hype is a very sharp double bladed sword. If the game delivers, well the sword will cut through all the competion. However  if it fails to live up to the hype, it will cut the owners throat.

Its best to avoid hype as I have not seen one game as of recently to come close to living up to the hype. wheather or not Adventurine is trying to hype their game or not, that fact is that the silence is hyping the game.

Waiting for: Final Fantasy XIV
Now Playing: COD4:MW2 (bye bye stars)
Worst MMO: Age of Conan
Favorite MMO: FFXI

just some stats comparative on this forums i play eve-online there are 46467 posts and here we got 60751

like i said in my eyes wee are in some way "manipulated" is like when you got 2-3 dogs and take a some meat and keep it on air dogs jump try to get that meat and sometimes they bite each other(also make allot of noise)
we get the "meat" on 22 jan and we bite each other pretty hard and again in my eyes that take the fanboy/hater to extreme levels and here come what toddze the "double bladed sword"
but this is more important imo whit fanboy/hater on extreme positions there will not be a middle point of view there will not be a unanimity opinion if game is a fail or success and in some way you dont have a "double bladed sword"
and also some ppl see a challenge to test them self the game and see if the hater point are true ( this happen in eve )
this dont happen in AOC because most of opinions out there are bad/negative

so if you put fanboys and haters on extreme positions you get free marketing ?

The game so far is hyped by the amount of negativity towards it  ;)

Dark and Light had no ads either but still managed to get 300,000+ people on their forums registered and sold who knows how many thousands of pre orders.

It's called promise the world to idiots.

See Darkfall doesn't cater to people with common sense and brains. It literally caters to simple minded gullible people who willingly believe in anything they're told.

There's lots of weak minded people in the world. Some blow themselves up in the name of Allah.. Others follow Darkfall Online.

Hype means nothing when you can't back it up and you can be pretty much guranteed that this game will NEVER backup the hype that it has gotten which at the end of the day will be the cause for it's quick downfall.

Marketing is a form of social engineering. It is about convincing people that your product is something that they want.

I realized exactly what I was saying, thank you very much.  I don't see how it's putting my foot in my mouth when people who play MMO games have never heard of one that has been in development since 2001.

In contrast we talk about Aion and The Old Republic on a daily basis.  Darkfall hasn't been brought up since I mentioned the release date.

Anyway.  My point was, I think people who frequent gaming forums (myself included) tend to believe the games we are following are more popular than they actually are.  I did the same thing before FFXI was released in the US.

Bioware did not make Knights of the old Republic 2.

There is no such thing as bad publicity.  I have no doubt that, at least at some level, this was a planned marketing strategy.  This is a smart ploy on AventurinE's part.

They keep silent...release just enough to tease the public...announce a few false release dates...do next to no advertising (thus saving themselves enormous capital), and everyone goes insane.  The fanbois rave one way...the haters rave the other way...doesn't matter if it's bad or good...just as long as people keep talking about it.  As I've stated before I have friends that are going to try DF just BECAUSE of all the forum talk.  It's a win/win situation for Aventurine...UNLESS THEY DON'T DELIVER.

If the product comes out and fails to live up to the things that THEY have said that their will be in game, then AventurinE will find it hard to get ANYONE to give a second project a chance.  We will be like, fool me once shame on you...fool me twice...shame on me.

It's a bit like guys who go to a strip club and spend money on the strippers thinking that they are going home with them.  The strippers may tell you they're going home with you...but believe me...they aren't...lol.

OH I get it now...instead of having faith that this game will offer something new as opposed to the TON OF CRAP MMO'S on the market today, I should be like you and just believe MY own hype...

Thanks for clearing that up for me .

Its not as funny though because that person was talking about how people are dumb, but they made a subject verb agreement which is a gramattical error while the error I made is one that most forum users do, forum shorthand if you will. thanx tho Thanks though*

That was me that made the post... I guess you never read my reply since I made you look dumb in that thread.

gramattical? HAHAHA. but your right.. it Is forum shorthand... that;s why you looked dumb in the other thread. since grammar in a forum is no way to gauge how smart someone is... but you thought it was...... owned
