I am looking for an MMO with alot to offer.  Such as PVP that includes everyone, not just the hardcore players within the max level that grind hours for the best gear, something to do besides constant, mindless combat, pvp that requires a good amount of strategy, good replay value, a great community with people to group and hang out with, a game where it is fun at all levels, an immersive atmosphere and breadth and depth to keep me busy.  The thing that puts me off about Ryzom is that it has been dead, ressurected, dead again and ressurected again.

MMOs that I have tried/played loved: Pre-NGE SWG, City of Heroes/Villains, EVE Online, LOTRO, D&D:O

MMOs that I have tried/played and disliked/grew to dislike: WoW and EQ: Online Adventures (for the PS2) are the only ones that stands out in my mind.

I have tried and played many more MMOs than those listed above...

I haven't played Ryzom, but I can tell you if you don't like WoW than neither AoC nor WAR will catch your interest either. I found both to be similarily shallow, lacking, and overall unfulfilling. Looks like your in the same boat as me, wait till next year when some good titles are supposed to come out.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

They told me I'd never survive, but survive was my middle name.

I'll narrow it down for you

Age of Conan, or Warhammer.

Both are good games. If you really like strategy I would say Warhammer is a better bet for you.

Playing: Age of Conan, Aion: Tower of Eternity.

Waiting For: Guild Wars 2, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Age of Conan: Rise of the Godslayer

I would see if you could get yourself a free trial from WAR, so you can see if it suits you without commiting to a box purchase. By your original post it sounds to me like it has several qualities that you are looking for.  I would suggest the same for AoC but I'm not sure if they have free trials. I think they make you pay a fee for downloading so I wouldn't quite call it free. Unless they have changed that.

Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.
Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.

EVE, Saga Of Ryzom,Star Quest Online,SWG, Ultima Online, Fallen Earth, Darkfall

I would suggest Ryzom  before the other 2 failed games......if you dont want your hand held then play Ryzom

For the number of times that SOE has destroyed the game I loved, even after it was very clear it was not what the majority wanted, I feel that they should start making donations to us- Paradox (SWG)

Yeah, the is a dumbass tax for anyone stupid enough to not legally download it with a torrent...

Anyways OP, both WAR and AoC should work fine for you if you have a good computer (if not get Guildwars).

WAR have nice and casual PvP, problem is that the PvE don't hold the same class if you are into that. WARs PvP is fairer than other games but the combat feels a bit slow to me.

AoC is more fast paced and the PvE is better. The PvP is ok, but you have to join a big guild and do some sieging for it to be really fun (you can do that on a PvE server too).

Both AoC and WAR feels thin content wise yet, AoC have patched in everything before 70 now but will still take 2 more months to get everything really complete. WAR havn't been out so long so when those 4 missing citys show up is hard to tell....

Both those games can be found for like 15 bucks now and they are really worth that.  Oh, yeah and AoCs graphics is miles from WAR, even though some of WARs art is really good.

WAR plays exactly like WoW.

I'd try AoC for something different.

Jesus is King

I haven't played AoC or WAR, but I have heard rather negitive comments about both games. I have, however, played Ryzom. The game had amazing crafting and social outlets for people. Massive PvP gathering to fight over outposts - which were fun if you were able to join the elite squad of melees to rush/flank the opponents. However, the game is not for everyone. It does not hold your hand. There are no quests outside of the starter island (except little honor chore things). You define the game and its world.

Hopefully that helps.

Blessings,

If you want the best rvr out atm try warhammer period. The people who trash it either havent played it or quit early or after the last two patches. It has the best rvr that I have played, I hear lineage 2 is nice if you dont mind the crazy grind.

War has declision detection, its just a great RvR experience. If you are looking for the best single one on one pvp its not the best option, nor is it for pve. But for massive realm vs realm battle I havent played on game that touches it.

Lol funny one.

Anyway if you like pvp dont take aoc kauz you'll prolly ned up being ganked by pvping unless you have backup.

Ryzom has already closed its servers at least once, its doesnt have a bright future if it even has a future. And even though i never played war, all I hear from guild mates is that its a let down, the pvp is not exceptional and its a pvp game.

I had fun in Ryzom, which neither other title can claim.  I play it for a month I think...

So for me, I would go with Ryzom, understanding it is never going to be big...yet the dreamers at the start where planning lot of things.  Just seeing a glimpse of that dream is worth it.

AoC and WAR are both stuck in the arrogance of devs who think they can make you play what they want you to play instead of allowing you to play what you want to.  It is...unbearable and unpractical in both cases, from a PvE-endgamegrouper mindset.  Where Ryzom could have an underbudget argument and still leaving you some room to be happy, AoC and WAR both have heavy funding and a total lacklusting disrepect of most gameplays in the game.

Maybe the Atlantica game is worth it, I didn't have the energy to check it out.  Too many disappointments in the past...such as WAR and AoC.  At least I didn't pay a penny to either devs group.  So I can sleep well at night.  This gamer is getting grumpy and old. :P

haha problem with most MMO's now is due to original MMo's using exp system most of new MMO's dont attempt anything different as might not appeal as much to the market as normal styled MMO's

me for one love MMO's although every MMO ive played seems like a grind to me apart from FFXI which is possibly the biggest grind. The reason i didnt mind this was that it was fun at all levels, most MMO's fair enough you have fun but they make you feel you are missing out too much unless your max level.

If you want an MMO with PvP and strategy then yeh out of them WAR will suit you most as you can develop your owns style of levelling and playing due to large content,.

Well PvP that only involves the hardcore is kind of relative...I could suggest Lineage 2, since the whole game is based off of PvP...the catch being, its a hardcore game...not in the sense that it takes long to level up or accomlpish things...to progress to end game in L2 is pretty much the same as going through arena and raid teirs to get geared up in WoW...the difference being, you need to be the best to accomplish things. You want to kill the best raid boss, want to get the best castles, well so does everyone else, you gotta beat them to get it.

I'd also suggest waiting for Aion, it seems to be the perfect blend of casual and hardcore, its RvR, but there are still personal and guild acheivements other than +pvp points to buy you new gear...and the PvP is based off of open world stuff, not arenas.
