Not to burst your bubble or anything, but your friend only gets a free month if you subscribe for 1 month, not just play the 10 day trial.

You are totally ignorant if you believe what you wrote.  "Both expansions have flopped big time" - compared to what? Let's talk about flops... Age of Conan, WAR, EQ2, LOTRO expansion ALL flopped as compared to either BC or WotLK.

WOW has added more players with the two expansions than two major MMO's released this year have players total (technically we could say with WotLK alone but I am not sure of the other games sub data). That is not a flop at all. Blizzard's changes represent a maturing player base and that they know their audience (and no their audience is not the top 10% of raid guilds).

1. Recruit a friend is a great program. My wife started playing WOW and I was able to help her out and level with this program so she could catch up with me.  She likes the game so much she is now leveling a character on her without the bonus exp from the RAF program.

2. Outside of the top 10% of the raid guilds, who is complaining. I, and many others, were happy about this. I finally got to see ZA and every other instance that were targeted for that elite crowd. So what if they nerf it? Its content that many wanted to see and never got too. And at this point who cares - everyone is at the new content so nobody gives a damn how hard Khara or BT is.

3. HUH? Seriously, what? I have played almost daily since WotLK and not crashed once. Sorry don't blame Blizzard for someone's own sorry computer that is covered over with malware and spyware.

4. Another HUH? I have transfered 3 characters this year and both were done within 2-6 hours at the most. Again don't blame Blizzard because some moron doesn't read all of the directions on the transfer process.

5. Yet another huh? Sure, their CS has issues at times but I have always gotten better CS with them than any other game.

6. Not a single spam or e-mail or message in over 3 months of playing. I got more in my my first few hours of being back in WAR than in WOW.

-----

We all know you hate the game and are trying your hardest to make the game look bad. fair enough, but come on, these points are just stupid to argue about and it seems you are grasping at straws trying to argue your invalid points. Next time try harder.

But that "job to get best stuff" make the game "best MMO on the market". Everybody like to get something cool... hmmm for free... :)

Oct 08 = 11M
Dec 08 =  11.5M

Warhammer
Sept = 750k

AOC
May = 700k
June = 400k
Oct = 50k

yeah, because those 4M Wrath box sales in November were from NA and EU.  And in the month of december, Wrath continues to be either #1 or #2 in box sales, which probably means another million boxes sold IN NORTH AMERICA AND EUROPE.

As long as kids turn from ages 9 to 10 this game will continue to gain subscribers.  It is the best teen and pre teen game out there no doubt.  At work, almost every mother tells me about how their 10 and 11 year olds are in love with the game and how they love all the new pets they get and so on......

Cmon Pappy. Come and do your thing

1st silly argument. Only kids play this game. Well, my own experience with it proves just the opposite. The raid guild I was in only had people 20 years or older in it (requirement), the kids of the players was left to our kiddie guild, and also where we put our alts. I'm myself soon in my mid-30's so not excactly a kid anymore, allthough I tend to get childish with my nephews sometimes. The guild also had a tendency to get riled up about stuff and act childish but they where still adults.

2nd silly argument. I guess those are goldsellers all. While WoW is plagued with goldsellers claiming that 500k of the new players are goldsellers only is silly. Even if they where, it still tell of the immense success this game had.

3rd silly argument. All asian accounts, pfft. As far as I could tell they stated it was EU/US sales only this time.

I could go on, but why bother. This game is so damn successful it's silly. It's almost too successful due to it burying almost all creativity in other mmo-projects under development. Everyone want's a piece of the cake, and to get that they try to copy WoW. Not WoW's fault, but certainly a result of the success the game got.

The game got faults, no argument there but when trying to talk shit about the game, atleast talk shit about the real issues, not some made-up crap.

Hey same car

Its just amazing how so many people are playing this game.  I guess most people like quest grinding and gear grinding and everything WoW has to offer and thats cool to each their own.   I used to play it only because friends and family were playing it but, I quit again cuz I want something different something that isn't quest grinding.

There needs to be something new that goes back to the Golden Days of MMO's (Yes some people thing the age of  WoW is the Golden Days but I don't) but stepping it up a notch.   Sorry but IMHO,  WoW and everything that has came out since WoW has been total crap.  Everything is handed to you on a damn silver platter.  What happened to getting a group and just adventuring? and not just because you need to get that kick ass chest piece or sword.  Taking a long time to complete quests because there isn't shinies on items your looking for or even a red area on your map telling you where the thing you need is.  Risk Vs. Reward and the complexity of games.

I miss those kinds of games and the only reason why Im not playing them is because, I can't stand to look at some of the older graphics.   Yes for me graphics are just as important to me as gameplay, they go hand in hand. But until WoW stops growing im sure were going to see more of the same crap different graphics.

No one said only kids play but they certainly account for a huge portion of the subscriber base over the last couple years.  It's not like there's an abundance of new adults just hearing about it.

No need to be defensive.... no one would reasonablly argue there is an abundance of young kids and there's nothing wrong with that.  There are also adults who enjoy the game.  I play it from time to time as well, it just doesn't keep my attention very long and there are other games I enjoy more.

Even on my flaky HP notebook I use to have the game never CDT'd on me.  Sounds like you need a new computer or some user end experience on how to operate one.

Not sure what you are talking about with the transfer characters being in limbo, I did a character transfer the other night and it happened instantly.  Maybe Blizzard just hates you.

I'd be more curious about how many of their "subscribers" DIDN'T buy the expansion in the US. I can't imagine very many people currently subscribed wouldn't buy it, which would lead to the assumption that a lot of those subscribers are indeed in Asia, if only 4 million copies were sold out of the 11.5 million subscribers they claim.

 Its already known info that WoW has about 4 million in western market, and about 6 million in china.

Not really accurate.  Wrath sold 4M copies in the FIRST MONTH.. but look at the sales charts, even after the first month, it continues to be #1 or #2 every week (this during the holiday season).   So a lot more people than 4M people have bought the box in NA/EU.  Think of it this way.   2.8M the first day and 4M for the whole months means 1.2M for the last 29 days of the month.  In the month of December, they maintained #1 so far, so you have to figure close to another 1M in sales.   If Wrath had suddenly dropped off the sales charts in December, then I'd say 4M in NA/EU... but it still selling a ton of boxes.

eh, actually 1/10 of wow's player base is like 2x more than most mmos even have. And it would still be more than most of the top mmos. people have been crying and whining about wow's numbers since it came out and how it was going to tank in 6 months .....isnt happening. It isn't going anywhere for a long time.

 On the flip side , I hope other games keep forcing wow to add new features/ Warhammer forced them to add achievments and try to make an improvement on pvp ...although I still think it sucks for the most part. Overall though , Wow does too much right for what i want in a game. Ive tried everything else and its either more of the same done worse or it just plain sucks.

WoW hands down is the most popular and polished MMO in history and exsistance. Now with that said, I bought wrath and played it to 80. Blizzard got my money and my friends money.

Do I love WoW? No.

Why Not? Because blizzard with each xpac seems to strive more towards medocracy than challenging their players. That is why I have canceled my sub. However, Blizzard is in it for the money, (Doh, they are a business) and doing what they have done will bring them more subs. I just wish another company could learn from Blizzard's example (Release a polished MMO) and create a game with a theme I love. Hasn't happened yet... and have been waiting for it since I quit Everquest so many years ago.

Bioware 'may' be able to pull it off with their new MMORPG.  The problem is they were bought out by EA so I'm not sure how much of their integrity will be compromised.  Bioware is like Blizzard, they have never released an unpolished or unfun game.

yeah, because those 4M Wrath box sales in November were from NA and EU.  And in the month of december, Wrath continues to be either #1 or #2 in box sales, which probably means another million boxes sold IN NORTH AMERICA AND EUROPE.

Actually, all you guys who say the 4M is in only the NA/EU market are not entirely accurate.

The following quote is from WOW's previous press release about WotLK

"Wrath of the Lich King was simultaneously released in North America, Europe, Chile, Argentina, and Russia on November 13; Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand on November 14; and South Korea and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau on November 18"

So it looks like it got released in a good portion of the Asian market as well (just not the big 2)

Point #2 I would like to make is about the 11.5M overall. Alot of the fans are saying WOW is growing. Overall yes, but the fact they have neglected to mention exactly WHERE the growth is makes me concerned. Alot of the people trumpeting the 11.5M number are on other boards (WAR, AOC) saying "If the company does not release subscription numbers, then something is wrong" to paraphrase. Well, WOW has not released the breakdown between NA/EU and Asian markets since about the 10M mark. I find that particular detail, which they have freely released before, dropping off the radar very interresting indeed. The fact that there are different subscriber methods between several markets, I would personally love to see the breakdown between actually monthly subscriptions and the "pay as you play" subscriptions that is common in Asia and other areas. The second (pay as you play as I call it), from everything I can tell, can make it extremely easy to afford multiple accounts in that market.

Well, that's it for now. Have a good day

Yep, the last time they announced the 'split' was last January when they announced the 10M milestone.  One thing about this though, and you might consider it 'symantics' and that is fine.  The 10M press release back in January is the only press release they did purely to brag about subscription numbers.  All the other press releases were about something else and they just added the subscription number at the bottom.  This last one was about the 4M wrath boxes, the one in July (where they mentioned 10.7M) was about the merger with Activision. etc.

The thing about Asia is that people assume they play much different than we do.  The fact is their raid progression is always similar to ours.  They don't just play 1hour a month for 3 cents.  They progress their character similar to how we do.

that said.  Look at server launches and queues in NA/EU.   In the last 2 months, WOW has released about 30 new servers in NA/EU.   During primetime, about 30-50% of NA servers are still in queue.

The final thing is Amazon.com and other 'western' websites.  Wrath continues to be the #1 or #2 selling game. (which means a ton of old players are still playing)... and at the same time, the battlechest continues to be in the top #20.

I really don't see why the percentage between east/west would have changed much in the past year.
