"We’re obviously working through the holidays, but we’ve scattered some. We’ll come back to you with a proper status report as soon as possible, so please excuse the almost telegraphic post today: For now, beta is progressing satisfactorily; we’re adding new people in regular batches almost daily. There are no major issues to report, a couple of recent patches turned out a bit shaky but we quickly fixed that. We’re also fighting with the business end of things getting everything ready for the publishing. Support, billing, and account management are all coming together. Our server deployment is just about complete. A new website is under development and we hope it will be finished in time for the launch. If there appears to be a lack of updates, we haven’t been idle in that department. We have been doing quite a few interviews; I believe one at curse.com is out today, and several more to follow. I try to answer every question asked one way or another. Time is very limited but we’re doing all we can. Gianna’s beta previews at The Noob are not meant to replace our updates, but they are a very accurate representation of what’s going on in the beta. We offer very little, if any feedback or guidance in her previews, more along the lines of pointing out known issues, or things that are placeholders and about to be replaced by the real deal. She’s also a person who will call them as she sees them and this was our understanding when we asked her to do this. I want to thank the community, we don’t do it often enough but the sentiment is always there. You guys have been great, your support and your feedback has been invaluable. On behalf of the entire Darkfall team, I’d like to wish everyone Happy Holidays."
Small update there, they will work through holidays... and more interviews to come..

Well he doesn't really give any info. In short he says thanks and that they're getting the business end together and that his mate doing the review is completely objective ... honest. I still don't know how much the bloody game is and when or where I can purchase it and in what format. I just keep getting the feeling that someone needs to get thier **** together! |

I agree, but as a skeptic it would be comforting for me to know that they know at this stage, if you understand my thinking. |

Well if the game does get released (skeptic here!) let's all pray they don't continue this policy post launch! |

That's my point. They hold it back now but they don't HAVE to. So why would they change that policy post launch? It irritates me now yet we all know how gamers are when changes suddenly happen with little warning in an MMORPG don't we? It is irritating now and leading to doubt, skepticism and low PR. After launch it will lead to bad PR and furious gamers, why bother to be so mysterious at all? It serves no purpose other than to irritate and create suspicion amongst potential customers! |

i don't think there is any mystery or low PR -- there is tons and tons of info - check out some of the links in the stickies... and as for PR, the amount of stuff coming out is about what i expected 4 weeks before release. i'm content.

Thank you for the update |

Well, I wouldn't call it an update exactly and I don't think it's really meant to be one. It's a sign of life together with season's greetings form Tasos, not more and not less (which is good enough for me actually, as I don't expect Aventurine to put up any real update for Christmas really). There sure is a lack of information and I can only hope more will come soon enough, the release date coming closer. However, I don't see how this would affect me as one of those awaiting the game patiently and hoping for it to turn out to be some refreshing addition to the genre. By the way, Agricola1, it's refresing to see there are real sceptics around (as opposed to mindless doomsayers I mean). Your posts are making perfect sense and are pleasure to read. |

I'd just appreciate it if Aventurine got thier shit together and started being honest about the situatuion of Darkfall. Some claim they are and just decide to refrain from giving information until neccesary. I feel that with thier past record of setting dates, missing them and not saying anything about it, the onus is on Aventurine to prove to me that this is the real thing and not just another circus. I'm really just waiting for SGW (prefer sci-fi), but if Darkfall was to be released as promised it might set MMORPGs back on the right track. The ideas of player housing and PvP with consequences, also real live events like having an invasion or story arcs each month need to be re-introduced to MMORPGs. Just having a shitty PvE grind and leaving it at that with boring non consequence PvP as an after thought has gone on too long in my opinion. I played MMOs where you picked a side and had something to fight for, now you pick the OP class, so that you have something to grind for! |

That's it. I'm not, neccessarily, insulting Adventurine I'm simply stating the obvious. I love the concept of Darkfall and I've already taken the 22nd and 23rd off work, I just hope i don't have to reschedule. |

If you look at some of my past posts you'll see I agree, in fact I believe Darkfall is probably just a scam to get the bank to loan them money. I also agree that it is unlikley that 20-30 semi-pro coders can have Darkfall feature complete and ready for release (though Tasos claims otherwise). And in the language of the Gods, "Darkfall = Go'nak, Aventurine = Kalshek'tak, Tasos = Has'va, Fanbois = Zatarc, Hater = Mik'ta-ha. Chel'nok Kedoremos, Tao've'nu Jan 22nd Darkfall chula! Lek tol, rel'tor'key." |

It is like, bunch of old MMO buddies came together, made a dream game on a paper and thought about securing their future financially. Probably most of the Devs haven't had even proper education to code and design a game. It is like Tasos says to his sister's son "oh come on Kimborus, you can type, you know how to use a keyboard, of course you can code too". It just screams like a big scam. o----------------------------o Aion |

I wouldn't say it's probably just a scam, it's possibly just that. The sole reason a team is rather new to the genre and has not prooven anything so far is simply not enough to not allow for the benefit of the doubt. You've guessed it, I don't believe DF is a scam. I think it's a no name dev team with limited resource, struggling to pull thorugh and get the game out in as good a state as they can possibly do. That doesn#t mean it has to be just as good as we all hope for in the ned, especially seeing how a lot of folks dream up something on their own. There WILL be disappointed fans, even if or, maybe even more so, especially when the games is getting released, as like with every title in development, the fans tend to interprete their indivuidual dream come true into it.
Hate Aventurine as much as you feel the urge to, it's companies like them the manage to bring innovation to the smaller niche markets or nobody. Sound reasonable enough to me to give them the benefit of the doubt, as long as they don't aks for us opening our pockets bfore they didn't have us take a closer look at the product. |

I see your point. I don't hate Aventurine, I even care less about the company. I only care the product, and the relationship with their customer. So far Aventurine is just running a business by "words", but nothing more, nothing new, nothing exciting. Even tho I may find the product interesting, because of the relationship with their future customer is so bad, and careless that I have no trust in their work, business, and even the game. And now I see from the interview with Curse.com, there is no mention of Free Trial, but only purchase the game. Yes it does smell awfully a scam! o----------------------------o Aion |

I would not be surprised at all if 1-22 rolls around and nothing comes of Darkfall.. then a few weeks later we learn about Aventurine getting another huge loan from their backers to continue development. Would not surprise me one bit. What will surprise me is if Darkfall actually releases on 1-22. I would also be very happy if it is actually everything it's supposed to be. Bioware did not make Knights of the old Republic 2. |
