Selling t-shirts for a game, when all that they have to show for it is a single screenshot and a CG trailer?
Is anyone actually hyping this, or are they doing it themselves? - I'd be eager to hear from anyone who thought this wasn't a scam. |

Do you have something against selling some t-shirts ? About the hype question, you got problems finding hype of games listed on mmorpg.com ?

i'll feed the troll. it's a service to fans that want one. i don't anyone on the forums who has bought one. they probably haven't sold ten t-shirts when they've likely spent over $700,000 on their engine. yep, all these guys are creating a fake game in order to sell t-shirts! |

MO is not a scam... It;s a game in development thats all, and people are hyping it because they like the features listed thats it...nothing more..

I'm no troll. Just their announce date is summer of 09? I went to the site, I'm not going to try and descredit something blindly. But there's a single screenshot, and a video thats not even gameplay from the game.. There is hardly evidence the game even exists, and it was one of the top hyped games on mmorpg.com. I naturally suspected it was just their staff hyping it, but if there's actually people here who are going to hype an alleged game which is at least 2 years away, power to them.
edit: Hyping a list of features is unnessary, I reccomend you wait until the game is further into it's devlopment before making any conclusions. |

Originally posted by Silkskin There was only a single screenshot because the guys at SV don't want to reveal anything that they are not 100% sure will make it into the final release. There are a few more screenshots now, I recommend you check them out. The video is made using the game engine, it's just not recorded from a first person view perspective. Whether you consider this gameplay footage or not is up to you. There is a lot of evidence the game exists, major ones being: * they are on the stock market * they have bought the U3 engine for their game. * we've seen footage from inside their office, where we could see the devs working on the game and also got a short glimpse of their alpha build. This was all shown on Swedish TV.
The game is at least 2 years away from release huh? Well, the devs said it's coming out in summer 09. They have not missed a date yet, always very punctual with promised info releases and they were also on schedule with their alpha. Since they have not yet failed to deliver, I really don't see a reason to doubt them... well... other than that you are just jayded and paranoid. Have a nice day. |

I remember back a few months ago on the mo irc channel when some people asked the ceo to open a shop (Well, it was more like : Can we get those T-shirts for free ?). It was the followers who wanted them to sell the T'shirts, not starvault themselfs. |

Your comments lead me to believe you did little more than go to the site and immediately go to the screenshots and media section. I doubt that you actually read in any detail about the game in the forums or elsewhere. If you had you would have seen when they began working on this title. Additionally, again, if you had been serious in your "research" efforts, you would have found a timeline that is floating out there (which I will not link as you have just as much access to google as I do) that shows their production schedule. What you seem to be suffering from, and this is only my opinion, is the narrowness of thought that a company can only ever possibly have started working on a game within the few months it was announced. In actuality what the industry is starting to see is that MMO companies are beginning to hold off on such announcements because, honestly, looking at the recent crop of games who announced way back it really hasn't done them any good. As for recommendations, I recommend you actually go to the MO forums and read, don't post, and educate yourself. Slapping up 50 million screenshots and a few videos is not a mandated part of game production and failure to do so doesn't mean a thing. That said, there are a few more ALPHA screenshots up on the MO site for you to look at. Their ALPHA stage is coming to a close this month and the BETA stage is begining next month (Jan 2009). BETA in 2009 with a targeted release in mid to late summer 2009 (July, August). Provided there are no major issues, and considering how long they have been working on it, that is an absolutly feasible launch window. **Disclaimer: I'm not trying to convince you of anything, just correcting the opinions you've posted with actual information. Like when you state a video that's not even gameplay from the game and the video states in plain english from the start "Teaser produced using in-game content and technology". I personally couldn't care less if you played this game, or any game.

Damn those t-shirts everytime i see them i cant stop myself from buying them!!! dont...have...enough power to hold it back!!! Now on a more serious note, its merchandise I dont see any problem with it, its like the other million things out there that you can buy like Britney Spears and Nirvana T-Shirts its a fan item if your a fan of the concept you would probably buy them buying a nirvana t-shirt doesnt make you listen to their music better its a fan item you CAN buy if your the type of person who likes to have merchandise of whatever your following. On a side note, what makes me a bit confident in this game is the fact they have purchased Unreal 3 license, mainly because it is a real investment and it requires Epic to actually look at your company and see if your eligible to buy it. That doesnt mean they wil make it but at least shows me they are serious about development.

I especially liked their alpha combat write-up... very detailed and painted an idea of what combat is like quite nicely... can't wait to see how the "auto-block" triggers during combat :) |

Summer of 09 could mean late Septemeber when the autumnal equinox atarts. If the game is near test ready, theres no reason not to believe that it can't be out by that time; howerver, I'd rather have the game in 6month open beta to work out all the bugs first. When will companies learn oh well. |

Simple really. THe publishers only get retuns on box sales. If the publisher has put a good chunck of money into the development of the game they want their retuns as quickly as possible. A lot of the hurt is avoided in situations where the developer and publisher are the same people such as NCSoft, Squarsoft, and Bilzzard, but other compaines have to rely on publishers for mass distubiting and some extra capital and in these instances the publishers says we'll publish your game but its released on X date reguardless of the state the game is in. This happened both to AoC and WAR. I think the reason that DF had a hard time finding a publisher is because they wouldn't sign a contract that didn't give them the control need, and I hope MO did the same. |

Then they just rush out and "leak" information and berate the game instead of doing what they were supposed to be doing. All that said I can see why companies look to be moving to either professional beta testers or limiting the amount of information they release about games. The bad apples seem to outnumber the good ones most times. Asheron's Call. I know that exactly. Tbh, in last released quasi-mmorpg games devs sucked more. That's why I still can't believe there is a game developement team, which works almost exactly as I would like. End of my tirade. -- Remember, your advantage lies in your opponent's weakness (J) |
