http://ve3d.ign.com/poll/237/2008-Game-of-the-Year
Saw this on another site figured I would post it here since it contained some MMORPG's as well. So far looks like AoC is in second with 1017 votes. |

LotRO: MoM isn't there?
I've only heard good things about it...I wonder why it wasn't included. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

GTA 4 by miles. |

Fallout 3... easily the best game this year. Why would I play a pathetic themepark MMO when I could enjoy a masterpiece like Mass Effect, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Dragon Age? |

Question did you feel the multiplayer part of Fallout 3 was terrible due to the fact there is NO multiplayer with the game? Anyway at first I also felt Fallout 3 to be the best of 2008, but now after spending some time to me it's clear that the award for best game definitly goes to GTA 4. And that is pure my own personal opinion. ------------------------------------------------------------ |

Don't blame Bethesda that the PS3 isn't as powerful as the other systems and takes twice as long to code for. |

Well..... if you vote you only should vote for what you have played/experianced, I see no use what so ever to vote for something you didn't play, so basicly you could have shared who you would vote for regarless if it's pc/console or what ever game it might be ------------------------------------------------------------ |

Yarr, 'cos Bethesda making a dirty back-room deal with Microshaft to screw the PS3 players out of forthcoming downloadable content and game-altering changes is most definately a coding issue. They just couldn't get that "IF Dirty Microsoft Offer Bribe THEN Tell 'em to bugger off" code right.

Everyones making a deal with Microsoft for exclusive downloadable content because Microsoft are paying developers extra for it and sony is not. Developers arn't fanbois.......

Voted for Left 4 Dead, all it needs is some custom maps and it would blow AoC and Fallout 3 out of the water.... though the vertibird mod for fallout 3 is pretty awesome... Just as long as some game that doesn't deserve it doesn't get it.

That would have annoyed me, (because I own a PS3 and hence, wouldn't be able to play it) but I'd have accepted it. By releasing the game on the PS3 then announcing that they were going to add DLCs to convert it from the release version (an open-world with a restrictive level cap and linear terminating main quest) into an open-world with a non-restrictive level cap and open-ended main quest. Except of course, for PS3 users who don't get DLCs. One should also mention that the game contains significant game-affecting bugs (presumably on all formats). These are the reasons that I'm not voting Bethesda for GoTY. The game just doesn't deserve it. And I'm very pleased that you're happy with your Xbox. I'm very happy with my PS3 too; if you want to have a console bashing war, I'm afraid you'll need to look elsewhere as I frankly couldn't give a monkeys what other people think about a console that I'm happy with. |

Fallout 3 for *me* is one of the best RPG's I've played in years. So for me on the PC the game contained NO significant game affecting bug. /shrug I can see your point and it was a point made by many on the Bethesda forums about the PS3. They felt more or less they had a product that wasn't of the quality of the XB or PC versions. If that is the case I'd be upset as well. (I'm not really console person .. but I can relate to the idea in general). Being able to choose the skills you want to use, offers much less variety than pre-made class based systems. -Future Game Developer |

I believe most of the problems affects the story, as your able to skip significant pieces of the story such as going directly to Rivet City to find info about your dad as opposed to actually going to Three Dog first.

This was part of it, yep.. you could actually skip 3 stages in the main quest by just wandering into Vault 112 and finding Dad without ever meeting Doctor Li, Three Dog or Moriarty. The second dodgy part was the physics engine; NPCs can randomly fall to their deaths from high ledges; sometimes when you shoot a target they fly off as though tossed from an extremely powerful catapult, and some of the bits and bobs designed to show off the engine (the domino bit in the grocery shop) were unreliable and often didn't work. Some of the dialogue and quest design was a pile of plop too. Oh! I almost forgot the power-armour-wearing paladin NPC who would randomly steal things from the "secure" containers in your house. So yeah, opinions differ as opinions are wont to do; but F3 was a disappointment for me.

Well I don't own a 360 as I only play PC and there were ALOT of things I didn't like about the game and it isn't my GOTY but what I'm syaing is the PS3 is the lackluster version because of the PS3. That said I don't see why they shipped a game with such a poor combat system and porly animated characters that crashed all the time on my PC. |

Well, as you'll see from my post above; many of the things I found unsatisfactory were issues with the game itself, not the platform. I can say that safely as I've seen complaints about the exact same topics from people playing on the PC and Xbox too. |

and blame xbox 360 for making a console that gives red lights after every 4 months .i have changed my 5th xbox 360 and its giving me the same stupid red lights .so this tme i fixed it myself and sold it to another buyer for $100 .now i am feeling pretty happy that my headache with microsoft is over. i am now focussing on mmorpg on pc rather than xbox 360. |

Hmm, tough call. i had a lot of fun with GTA IV and Fallout 3, but neither of them was "revolutionary". Left 4 Dead is still on my list of "really need to play", so I can't make a call there. As far as I'm concerned though, there shouldn't be a single MMO even on that list. I mean, come on. You can be up for " Game of The Year" just for churning out some generic crap? |

I dont see how AOC made that list considering how much of a failure it was, but Fallout 3 I voted for For the number of times that SOE has destroyed the game I loved, even after it was very clear it was not what the majority wanted, I feel that they should start making donations to us- Paradox (SWG) http://www.fragglerockforever.com/swg/antiTCGloot.gif |

Left 4 dead is pretty much the only good game on that list, in my opinion. Fallout was cool, for the graphics, but I didn't really like the content. Not happy with MMO's this year. |

Nearly 10k votes, nearly legit for a Gallup poll. I think Lotro: MoM should be on there too. Having a blast in Crysis Wars too which just went on free trial and imo should be on the list as well. New Tarantia Commons DX10 - DX 10 Goodness - |
