To be honest with the way the mmo market is going I wouldn't give a shit If DF looked like diablo.

I want a "on foot" pvp sandbox to play already!

exactly b/c in the videos, you can see the HORRIBLE HORRIBLE animations, which are absent in the screenshots :P

WoW! I take back everything I said about DF looking like a four year old game.

not bad. lets hope the gameplay matches those nice stylized graphics.

i was blown away by DnL as well (it was also developed by a small dev team), had everything that darkfall promised (minus the ffapvp).

Moon cycles, weather, crafting dependant on zodiac signs, dragons (i have a soft spot for dragons :P ) , awesome screenshots, etc.....even preordered that game until i got into the preview. Hence why my skepticism radar is pinging in the red.

I have not made a single post knocking Darkfall's screenshots. But, every last of those screenshots are straight from the Darkfall webpage, and do not represent what I have seen from the few (the proud, the) Darkfall beta testers. I am sure this is what the game looks like at high settings. It is beyond EQ1 in my humble opinion. perhaps equal to SWG or Ryzom in terms of setting.

But, alas, they are only screenshots. The point of view changes with weapon equipped (1st, vs 3rd person).

We'll see in June.

DnL had a nice budget when designing both the surroundings, and size of the world. They ran out of money by the time they got to the gameplay and avatars, and that was 2 years before launch =).

Good compared to what? This is, almost, 2009 and AoC, and even EQ 2, looks much, Much better than Darkfall. I would say the games gfx are on par with WAR which has been criticised for its poor gfx.

I don't think graphics in an MMO have to be outstanding.  They have to be good.  It is the game play that matters most.

If someone nit picks graphics, we probably don't want them playing the game with us anyways.  Less whiners.

I'm totally with Kruugar here.

Too much concern with graphics and not enough with gameplay ruin most games.

This is true.  Really they should make sure the mechanics are near perfect and then start modeling.  If a game is launched and has fab game play then the graphics can certainly come second.  Hate to say it but I probably have been playing AoC longer than usual because of the landscapes (and music) just so happened that they improved it so its pretty decent now but graphics can not keep that long term relationship as it just feels hollow in the end.

You say how DF is like DnL, but DnL got people to preorder the game and sold it as good and finished when it was not.  So untill Df asks for money you cant compare it to the failure that was DnL.

It may not have been your MAIN point, but you have it in your post right before "Hence why my skepticim radar is pinging red."  It shouldnt be "pinging red" untill they ask for your money, unless design ideas set or your "radar".

it's pretty amusing that graphics are even an issue to anyone when the market leader MMO has some of the lowest-quality, outdated graphics in the history of the genre. doesn't stop it from having a near monopoly on the market.
