I think there pretty good previews (previews not in-depth reviews) and devlopment stage is done and there just polishing it up. Reminds me of how releases use to be when the genre was crawling. You dont need to do all the things big companys do before release. They give you loads of info for advertising. And large closed betas is more for customer feedback then bug testing. But why not kill two birds with one stone so they have em look for bugs also. Except some devs rely to much on closed beta bug crunching then wonder why there so many exploits and bugs on release (You get what you pay for).

getting in on this one a little late.....but wow another very good review from Gianna. I am torn on what combat skills to go for, and hell i could eve go full crafter who knows....but with the description of magic splash down it makes magic that much more exciting than mage classes in other mmos that are just so easymode. No doubt that people are going to not like this game due to it actually challenging you....while other who may not have liked it will be thrilled to see that player skill is bring brought back into the equation. Was also nice to see some clarification on components needed for spells...should make for a great economy and fullfilling crafting professions if it works out like it sounds. Nice to see a clarification on her overall state of mind towards the game and how she is trying to be objective. To the common sense crowd, this means a lot. To the tinfoilers...it of course is all just a ploy and she is only saying that to try to disguise that she is in bed with Tasos.

The well-meaning gamers root for efforts that try to raise the bar. So who's left? It's so easy being a skeptic." -Tasos |

Grinding is the worst idea ever integrated into a game... I would much rather have fun. |

To me, these previews are bittersweet. It's not so much that I don't like them, or what she's saying. It's that when I look at the game, and what is being mentioned, it really doesn't seem polished at all. I could be entirely wrong here, in that a game of this genre doesn't need to look or feel great, it just needs players. But yeah, some of the images and Gianna's mentionings of the lack of players...I don't know ...I just don't see a January of '09 release date. But I do see a game, so that's a positive ------------------------------- |

GOA on the EU launch of Warhammer claimed they had stresstested their account system, guess what it failed horribly. The second worst thing that can happen to a game at launch beside the game failing badly is the servers not handling the stress they get. GOA ruined a lot of players first impression of WAR with showing they even failed at letting people log on, Funcom had hyped the game and while the servers performed close to perfect technically, the game itself had bugs. AoC is one of the launches where the servers actually have worked more or less perfect, too bad the game had some pretty bad bugs that put a lot of people off playing it.
exactly. author of the noob obviously knows this also. shes not a blind fanboi, shes shows signs of logic and skeptism. |
