Patience is a virtue, reason a necessity

Hey Everyone,

Just want to start off by saying thanks for reading the thread and for any information you guys/gals can help me with.  I played FF a long time ago when it was first released...but couldnt get into it,  the fact that i couldnt move with WASD or that I couldnt control the camera angle the certain way I wanted.  I also hated waiting 2 hours to use abilites that lasted only 30 seconds and were required for killing regular monsters my level.  It could be that I was still too new and wasnt doing well myself.

I have played wow for over 4 years, tried out WAR and liked it alot..but I feel it fell short on the RVR experiance...too much focus on Scenarios really killed it for me. Tried AOC was alot of fun as well but unfortuantely alot of stuff that was supposed to be offered wasnt even there a few months after release. I am an EQ vet  and loved the requirement to group at higher levels to really progress.

Now to the reason for the post...I am looking at jumping out of WoW and trying out another MMORPG at least before Aion is released.  I am keeping a very close eye on Aion because it looks really good...unfortunately I got burned too many times with recent tittles. I remember enjoying the art style and the way FF was..however I never got any of the expansions and dont remember what the core gameplay is like or what its like now.

If someone could please review with me all that has been added/changed or at least summorize it for me that would be great.  Any new classes that have been added, or any guilds that are looking for new players (and dont mind being patient) is a bonus as well. Again thank you in advance for the information. Also I would like to know if there is even a point in my picking up a copy..i noticed they are selling the game and all expansions for just $20, in my experiance with past MMO's when companies start doing that they are about to close the game or release something else.  Please let me know what you all think!

P.S. Wall of text is your friend.

Well, first off, all of those things you talked about when you started playing never really existed. You failed to see that you could use WASD if you changed the settings, and you didn't need your 2hr to kills mobs. It's mostly for emergencies. There are way more abilities and the shortest some can be are 15 seconds, and the longest 20 minutes.

There is too much to even list. The most important ones is that there is Level Synch in which someone of a higher level can level down to you when for partying and getting exp. There are now 20 jobs, and they increased exp you gain from Easy Prey and Decent Challenge mobs. Check the stickies at the top of the forums. You can get all the info you'd want from them.

If you happen to choose Kujata to start on, let me know and I'll help you out.

To be the best, you must help each other become the best.

Well thanks for the reply, I will def take a look at the stickies, I guess I also need to know if its worth starting fresh right now? Or is there barely anyone left that still gets on and plays together?  I am a big fan of getting to know a close nit guild and just doing stuff as a guild together. Does that still exist in the game?  Or is it basically just vets and loyalists that just never left?

There is no guild. No need for loyal.

Linkpearl can be use by everyone as long someone give you a copy.

Beside, i don't really think you actually even played more then 5 min if you don't know these stuff. Most of these stuff should be common by level 10

If you don't like it then, you won't like it now.

This game isn't wow or war (i played those as well), it require patient and "motivation" if you can't go ahead and learn everything yourself, you might as well quit while you are ahead.

I personnally I feel ffxi is always the best MMORPG out there, since i am not much a fan of PVP (i played pvp server on wow gorefiend, WAR Open server, and AoC, so you can see me as a hardcore pvp'er as well) ... to me Player vs player is much like fighting NPC... in the end, you still kill a "ingame character" that move more then a pattern.

FFXI is a fantastic game, relatively cheap, and still holds a dedicated fanbase. It's pretty different from other MMORPGs in that it takes alot of patience, dedication, and hardwork to achieve, although they are attempting to make things easier and more casual-friendly with recent updates (I wrote about that in an upcoming article.)

With anything else I can provide, I can happily provide you with the links to the three-part beginner guide, which of course I don't claim as the greatest of all guides in existence, is helpful enough for you and get you started.

Beginner Guide Pt. 1: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/74/feature/2367

Beginner Guide Pt. 2: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/74/feature/2395/

Beginner Guide Pt. 3: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/74/feature/2478/

I do hope those are useful for you. If there are any misc. questions not covered here or in those articles feel free to ask.

I have played more than five minutes but I never got passed a level 15 character. And please dont automatically assume that because I played wow or war it needs to be like those games. I just wanted to know if anything has really changed in the game, while I do enjoy group orientated games because I am an EQ vet. I dont want to be forced to do so if I cant find one or start one.

I am still on the fence about getting it, is there anything about the game that the current players still love? and think I would enjoy as well?  Like is there alot of in depth character customization aside from Sub-jobs and is there a good amount of end game?

Your right there is a free trial and I already tried downloading it. However when i request a registration code it said that they emailed me it, however it never came, and I did check all my folders spam included. So I gave up on trying the trial. Again if anyone has any information regarding the questions I posted it would be appreciated.

then your experience is pretty bad then, mmo companies make most of there money off subs not box sales, therefore it makes more sense to sell the boxes for cheap to get more people into it.

Apparently stating the truth is my sig is "trolling"

Since you are a mmorpg vet, you should know that there is no mmorpg out there that have their whole system revamp.

I don't think anyone will respond to your question on what is new, because it will take quite a lot to tell you.

But then again if you are only level 15, i would say you didn't even played more then 2 day. Because it take an avg player 2 days to reach that.

So why would you care what is new about the game? when you didn't even start it in the first place.

I am not trying to be a jerk here, but to me you sound like "i already a vetern player who left FFXI because it was boring and now i want to come back to play because something new came out".
