"World of WarCraft is held alive solely by the mediocrity of competing products." RendRegen

OK, for the past few days I've been asking for this magical list that Tasos calls "FEATURE COMPLETE".  Here is what I concluded.  Based on http://www.darkfallonline.com/features/ there is absolutely nothing next gen about DFO.  ALL the features in DFO have been done in other games.  That is a good thing.  Why?  It should have allowed DFO devs to see what worked and what didn't in those other games.  Any good developer  knows to do their research and not to make the same mistakes others have done.  What I did discover looking over the only official FEATURE list we have for DFO is that if the DFO devs can deliver, DFO will be the best RETRO-GEN game out there because they are bringing a lot of the best features in different games together into one game.

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

name the next gen stuff?  Remember, if it isn't on the official feature list, it can't be included.  What gets mentioned in forums in different places can and will be written off by Tasos as he was misquoted or those were just would of, could of, should of type features that didn't make the cut.  So again, I ask, name the next gen stuff, please.

Ah...so I see, you're saying Aventurine is a lot like Blizzard, taking the best features of previous games and improving on them.  I see the coralation.

Well there's only 2 things I can think of that haven't been done before (as far as I know). And I wouldn't really classify either of these as "next-gen"...

1) Friendly fire. I'm very skeptical about this being anything other than a lesson in frustration. This is going to be a problem for both melee and ranged as people are moving around to avoid attacks and jump right in front of their own team. What's worse is as a melee you'll be in first person mode and can't see behind you to know if you're moving in front of friendly fire or not. I dunno, I'm having a hard time seeing this as a positive for the game at all.

2) Full corpse loot. I know other games have had corpse looting but not to this extent. Again I'm having a hard time seeing this as a positive for the game. I'm all for harsh death penalties (you died, it shouldn't be easy), but losing everything every time you die sounds overboard. Will you even carry that ub3r dragon sword that took you 3 months to acquire? How much fun will it be to die 3+ times in a row as a lowbie and have no money left to buy any equipment? It seems like a hard-core idea but the more I think about it I just forsee people breaking ranks and fleeing the fight to avoid death. There's really nothing hard core about that at all.

MMO games would be pretty cool if it weren't for the people.

I peronally think people whine too much about stuff like that.  I don't care what you copy from another game.  The only thing I ask myself when I play a game is " Fun? or Not Fun?".

Also, FFA and friendly fire at two different things entirely.

LOL ..i think you choose title to counter next - gen...

Features maybe seen but not put in one place together ...title should be ..."DF is the legal successor of MMO genre"...

Theme parks are single player games with option to play over the net on shared maps..with limit you to max 40 - 80 peeps on an instance its hardly can be called an MMO...those are technically NO MASSIVELY multiplayer online ..DFO don't limit you, and you are able take part on 300 - 1000+ meetings (if you accept lag)  and therefor it is a MASSIVELY multiplayer online game (MMO)

Do you often go around making posts about thing you obviously have no clue of? I usually go and read about things before I comment, I'm odd that way.

Anyway, both of those have been done in the past. They work fine, but only if the game is made around these features, like Darkfall.

As far as I'm concerned every generation of MMO has gotten worse and not better, so I'd proudly name Darkfall... a negative one generation game.

Sorry didn't mean to step on your fanboi toes.  I'll be the first to admit there's plenty I have no clue about in DF, thus the reason for forums and discussions... perhaps instead of being a jackass you contribute to the converstation and set me straight.  Just taking shots at me and not showing me where I'm wrong leads me to believe you have nothing useful to add and just want to sound all "cool" by slamming someone else.

I never said I didn't know anything about the subject.  You're putting words in my mouth.  I've read up a good bit on it but like I said there's plenty about DF I don't know about (just like everyone else on these forums who aren't in beta).  I'm big enough to admit when I'm wrong (see my post above about UO).

Yea I know. How dare they even propose something challenging!

Do you often go around making posts about thing you obviously have no clue of? I usually go and read about things before I comment, I'm odd that way.

Anyway, both of those have been done in the past. They work fine, but only if the game is made around these features, like Darkfall.

What game had Friendly fire?

I have played alot of the MMO's since back in the UO days and I dont remember any haveing that.

Was just wandering

Is that something they added to Shadowbane after release?  I only played it in beta.

How well did it work out there?

MMO games would be pretty cool if it weren't for the people.
