They could release darkfall today and make a load of cash like other unnamed mmos who have rushed release.

I'd happily wait another 2 years for darkfall if they can deliver what they promise.  It's nice to have atleast one mmo push the envelope and try to accomplish something extraordinary.  That's how games in general used to be.  Games nowadays are like formulaic commercial movies.  Trying to take in the most cash with the least risk.  Darkfall is taking risks.

It's evident that Adventurine is taking pride in their product.

I don't think there will be a beta.   I think the first anyone will see the game is when they offer a free trial.

it will be a short open beta, we knew this all along; a 2 week beta at the most. January 1st is a good estimate, early december if we get REEAAALLLY lucky but I doubt it. It will probably be after Januray 1st though, maybe exactly 2 weeks before Jan. 22, or maybe 1 week before.

EDIT: at squitty, Aventurine technically only missed 1 release date(03), estimating and having actual release dates are 2 different things.

The only way for an early December finish or start for OB right now is if  there were a global time machine of sorts. 15 days left of december, 16 have passed, early December has come and gone. I will simply assume you meant mid-late December.

As far as the length of the beta, yes we have known this all along.  So I am not sure why you quoted me lol. I said I was a bit dissapointed that they missed the OB date. They set the end for early December, which has come and gone already. Again I am mildly dissapointed but I am not heart broken lol.

Would be nice if at least there is some update given on OPEN Beta's status on Friday.  I'd be surprised if OPEN Beta itself is before Jan. 1st 2009 though.

They  claimed OB would be very short (mostly for server stress testing). We'll see, it will be Soon™ anyways...

You are very right.  The most un-professional thing Aventurine does is set dedlines, that are absolutely set in stone, and then completely miss them and think nothing of it.

They better be damn sure it's the 22nd of January because otherwise theres no reason they couldn't of just said late January or even Q1 of 2009 to just cover their asses.  That way if it releases early, great.  If it's a couple weeks late? who cares, because you never gave a set date.

Good point actually, why would they set an actual, exact day if they aren't pretty damn sure the game will be playable by then.

15 January?  Are you kidding?  To print boxes and distribute DFO, this thing had to have gone gold in NOVEMBER.  There is ZERO way that anything but a digital download release can happen on the 22nd if they go gold on the 15th.  Unless of course the game has already gone gold and no mention of it was ever made.

I go to www.darkfallonline.com/  to check out if there are any updates on the homepage. 

Then I check the news at: www.darkfallonline.com/news/

Then I see if they've added any new screenshots at: www.darkfallonline.com/gallery/visuals

I also check www.darkfallonline.com/features/ to see if there are any updates on the features of the game.

Lastly I check out: forums.darkfallonline.com/   to see if there is anything that I missed from all those other official places to post information.  Sadly, even with just 5 weeks until official release... that still seems to be the case.  Oh well, I'm sure they will change their ways once the game releases. 

For a new person looking at Darkfall for the first time... not sure how far they would venture past the home page and news section there.  I suppose it depends on how appealing that first look is to them, or what they find I would guess.

I would love to see an open beta, however, I don't think Darkfall has any intention of releasing OB.  As Tasos has stated, the game is ready for release now in comparison with other MMOs at this stage in the game.  For this reason I don't see them actually needing an OB, unless of course they feel that it will stimulate additional popularity for the game oppose to hurting sales.  Often times people use OB as a test for themselves and end up not liking the game because due to bugs or something else that should be somewhat expected in an OB.  For this reason I doubt DF goes with the OB.  This is just speculation on my part, however.

Now what I hope happens is an OB announcement the week of Christmas:)

Well we/and they also thought the release would be inside 08 but they pushed it back like a month so I'm guessing beta will be pushed back a month, meaning it will be done by early JANUARY.

and yeah lol, i meant that we will get lucky if beta's in LATE december... early december's already over my bad :P

Calling something ready for release "IN COMPARISON TO OTHER MMOs" is about as meaningful as calling your earwax the BEST TASTING EARWAX EVER.

I think the 19th will bring us good news, and open beta's date will be announced before the end of the year and possibly started by the end of the year, if not... first week of Jan for sure.
