O wow someone just mentioned Hello Kitty in the DF forum and it wasn't used in a derogatory way.

Hello Kitty Online is a 5th generation MMO. So DF is already behind the times... |

I'm all for Darkfall, but how the hell can you say that it's a next generation because of server cap, when Eve's is higher? You can't dismiss a fact, just because you dislike Eve.
Other than that, I mostly agree with you. |

How can you call anything vaporware, with all the videos/screenshots released? That's just ignorant.
Originally posted by EvilGargamel And so is Darkfall. What's your point? Darkfall looks like nothing more than some kind of fucked up College experiment less than 2 months from a commercial launch,. It looks like complete shit. The gameplay looks terribly generic consisiting of nothing more than mindless hack and slash combat, the graphics look old, the animations look terrible.
Riiiiiight, because autotargeting a mob and hammering the same button on the keyboard is _NOT_ mindless. Real time is way better.

And this title? Will be lucky to live long enough for a worldwide release.. in all honesty.. if it was THAT good it'd be ready for release worldwide .. not just Europe |

And yes, Darkfall does have all the things I listed, and each any every one you can see in the gameplay video.
None of that is weather physics. Are there floods? Do trees get knocked down? Random lightning strikes? Tornados? Low pressure areas? Do lakes freeze? You know physics? Do you know what physics are? The game plays like a good READ so far because that is all there is so far. Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries... |

Yep, Yep. Fourth Generation for sure. Right up there with Mourning and Dark and Light. :: thumbs up :: Nothing like small unheard of development teams making such amazing "fourth generation" mmos. I'm sure Blizzard is scared to freaking death of the mighty Darkfall launching and taking all 11 million of their players in about two weeks time. ...Scared to freaking death, man.

We're not talking about fog effects and raindrops here. I am amazed by people's hopes for this game, hopes are so high its beyond realistic and that I think its the downfall. This is mainly because of such lack of information and concrete evidence that makes so much room for people to grab onto litle bits of info like "you can change weather" and create massive expectations and scenarios which are unrealistic. I have quoted zymurgeist because i think he is right in his point some people will think those kind of things will happen in game. Back on topic, in my opinion Next Gen is usually dictated by the release of new technology and what do i mean by new technology, this can be a new revolutionary AI system to new virtual reality gloves that simulate your movements with alot of accuracy, then companies pick up one of these new technologies and add it to their game this obviously adding a new piece of technology creates a chain reaction that increases gameplay quality, immersion amongst other things, this new game that has this technology can then be called Next Generation, obviously this is not set in stone it will only mark the next gen when the product is released and the model actually works.

quite honestly, if it weren't for the crappy movement in uo, i think i could put up with it's 2d style, just because of all the things you can do even today in the carebear-UO-world.
where are you getting your information on what DF will/won't have at release, since the DF people seem to be unwilling to officially update what they are releasing with? i've heard pets and prestige classes have been cut... what else (which supposedly makes df unique) have already been cut?
bleh. could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please? |

DF has what it takes to be worthy of the 'next-gen MMO' title, which is of course why many doubt it, and why it attracts so many trolls.
i can still remember all the claims of half-life being vapourware/crap in the years and months before its release, same goes for TF2.
DF is obviously real, anyone can see that. as for whether it can live up to its 'next-gen' potential, we'll all find out over the next 6 months (launch will just be the beginning, how the game develops after launch is the true measure).
