I miss the original EQ "vision" I hope Darkfall will bring it back where others tried and failed **cough**Vanguard**cough**

EQ was forced grouping with no PvP.

How is this like Darkfall?

No one said EQ was like Darkfall, he merely stated that was the last great game made. And it was. Personally, I preferred DAoC to EQ, but EQ was groundbreaking. It had a DEEP living and breathing world, with harsh risk vs reward, as does Darkfall. Darkfall is a refuge for old MMO players (aka, real MMOs) whether you're a PvE fan or a PvP fan.

Lol at all you that say darkfall is like Everquest. Evercrack was still some of my best mmo days, so don't taint it with saying darkfall is like it when you have not even played darkfall.  I'm laugh so hard when this game fails. Don't trust any hyped up game these days.

If this becomes a reality, then DF will make alot of people happy MMO gamers again... But,,,, this all remains to be seen. I am not gonna hype DF up and hope for everything only to be disappointed in the end like in some other games I followed religiously for years..

Darkfall has the same ESSENCE of exploration of Everquest. The mechanics are not the same, but the IDEA behind the game is quite similar. Stop being so shallow.

And why would you laugh when this game fails? That would be VERY bad... I mean, we would be stuck with the same old boring games we have now save a few. It would make no sense to be happy and joyful and laughing over a game that had the potential to change the MMORPG market around and show other developers that you don't have to use the same code formula for every single AAA title released.

You won't be laughing then.

EDIT: You have to remember that if this game does succeed and sell even just as much as AoC did on initial release and stay with those numbers and increase over time (in other words, the opposite of AoC) then developers will say to themselves, "Wow, they have subscriptions for WHAT kind of game?! Lets make that! Everyone loves it!"

Bam! New breed of MMORPGs.

Live for each day. Or at least, die trying.

I have no choice but side with the Darkfall fans on this one. As an original EQ (1999, baby) player, I know what it's like to go from the Epic-That-Was to the dregs of corporate fantasy. I think there is much in common between how they feel so passionately about Darkfall and how I felt when Brad McQuaid first whispered rumors of a game that would bring back the glory of the original EverQuest. These "fanbois" are simply holding onto a dream that, yes, we all have had at one point.

Whether this dream was inspired by Guild Wars back in the day, that Star Wars Galaxies would bring us an MMO set in a galaxy far, far away, or even that a simple sequel, EverQuest 2, would rekindle the flame that drew us to basement-sealed nerdiness in the first place.

Alas, Darkfall doesn't represent the end-all of MMO gaming. Fate seems to conspire: a faceless corporation would be more giving in terms of funding for servers, staff, etc. while creative-startups are starved of that much needed funding in exchange for new, or revitalized ideas. I may not believe Darkfall will revive us MMO "golden agers", but I can't help but feel the flak they receive is undeserved. We were all there once...

And to the Darkfall fans, I bid you this. Some of these comments you angrly respond to, they are not directed at you in spite. It is simply the damaged hearts of fellow MMOers, who, too, have awaited a previous game with similar zeal and blindness, that seek to prevent you from enduring the same. Be strong, and, from an MMO community standpoint - no, from a gamer standpoint, I say - best of luck Darkfall. While you will probably die a most hasty death - there's no sense in trying if you aren't going to give it your all.

I know what players mean when they would like to relive the excitement of when they played EQ.  You probably feel that mmos have gone downhill afterward.

But to me, coming from UO, when I moved to EQ I hated it.  First of all, I remember thinking:

"Levels?  What do we need levels for?"

Yes EQ was instrumental in developing the "grind" that we are so familiar with today.  But there were positive changes like moving from isometric to 3rd person perspective.

Although I'm not interested in reliving EQ, having played UO and mount & blade, I'm looking forward to Darkfall!

You are comparing two tottaly different mmorpg games. I was at vanguard since early beta and i loved the game. Its an amazing Pve game , unfortunately with broken and non existant pvp.

Anyway, 1/22 is not far away... get ready to fight hard :)

I was at VG since early beta as well.. VG had potential to be just as good as the original 98-2002 EQ. I played it until my Shaman reached level 40 before being forced to quit due to BROKEN and UNFINISHED 40-50 content... There's more to do now but the populatoin is so bad.. I came back a couple times, played for a couple days before quitting again due to NO POPULATION.. I mean, there were literally 100 people on, if that each night.. Not many level 40's running around at all.. So that did it for me... :(

I would love to see DF turn out to be even half as good of the glorious original EQ and the idea made into a reality of Vanguard with a great PvP system set up.. But, I'm definitely not holding my breath,,,, which doesn't mean I give up on DF,,, I just dont think a game that sounds soooo amazing on paper with absolutely no proof or videos by the devs to backup it's claim, will deliver on all these promises.. But hey, I was wrong in the past... So who knows... Anything is possible..

EQ was forced grouping with no PvP.

How is this like Darkfall?

I soloed 95% of the time in classic EQ. Forced grouping only existed for raiding. Now classic EQ was designed around a six man group system which is good, because that made soloing challenging since it was harder, but group content becomes solo content as you level so there was plenty to solo in EQ, it just wasn't a cakewalk like in WoW- LoTRO- WAR etc.

There were both FFA PvP servers and team PvP servers in classic EQ, you could only loot coin though, but players lost experience as well.

I think Darkfall has a lot in common with classic EQ as far as a well rounded more challenging game, real consequences for dying, a serious crafting system, vast world , and most importantly it will foster a real sense of community like classic EQ did because there will be no handholding and players will need to rely on each other to achieve greater goals.

sorry to break it to you, but DF will not be the answer to your mmo dreams...its going to be a classic case of overpromise and underdeliver...or in DF's case, never deliver

O: DF won't even resemble VG and EQ, so you will be INCREDIBLY disappointed. It will be like 1% of what the EQ is and thats if the game is super successful...

Did you read the game overview section before you came over here?

so this discussion is about comparing/contrasting one of the best origional mmos with a a game no ones played, based on its developer supplied descriptions?

so sad the mmo industry is hurting this bad that people are comparing a new and never played game with a game thats what over 10 years old now.

The bar for DF is so high i dont see how its going to meet all you crazy fanbois' expectations.

I hope im wrong on this because we all could use a great mmo right about now...everything else has gotten so stale and everything new is so average.

Darkfall has always been compared to the best original MMO of all time, UO. The Bar has always been high. Everqueer is a lesser star to begin with.

Everything new is below average IMHO, it almost seems that game developers left their brains to 90's.
