Facts about Riki: I'm a ninja & one of the sexiest guys on this damn site. |
I love watching videos of people playing MMO's to get a feel of it and make my judges and decisions on if I will have a future with the game or not. One thing I can't stand that are with 80% of user created gamplay videos is music. I want to hear the sound effects, the attacks, the game's music, etc. Can I? No, I have to watch a video with a Britney Spears song on the background. It's irritating....I mean yeah sure, have some fun with your cool video editing skills, but it's anoying to click a video to expect 100% content from the game when I see it, yet hear a song that also 80% of the time don't appeal to me. I'm sure people agree with me here. I mean game makers release content videos on their games, a high majority of them is fully content from the game. It's not muted with some song pasted over it. With most MMO's I've been intrested in like AION, Age of Conan and some others that are in betas, I almost always run into videos where I don't get that full game experience and without the game's music and sound effects muted out. -In memory of Laura "Taera" Genender. I totally agree with you on the music bit. The music choice is often so bad an loud. It's almost always off with the scene you are watching. But maybe it gives us an insight on what type of players are playing MMO's ;-)

There are a few more things to consider± Of course some will make a ingame movie and share one of their favo.piece of music with it. Another thing is that some trials of ingame recorder programs when not bought or activated have mute on sound. Some recorders record longer periods of time due to no ingame sounds. Also muting sound effects-music ingame can also improve your overall performance which results in smoother gameplay movies. So sometimes it can be better to put some music on top of your ingame vid. instead of trying to record the ingame visuals aswell sound effects-music of the game itself.

I'm sick of hearing "Let the bodies hit the floor" or that Requiem for a Dream song over and over. |

LOL i was just going to say after reading the OP that "let the bodies hit the floor " is almost required for a PVP video.
such an overused song. if i could actually figure out how to do videos i would use off the wall songs that people wouldn't expect. a PVP video with Barneys I love you ... and try to coordinate my kills with the words "I love you (deathblow), you love me (deathblow) ...." |

Have to agree with this. Those two songs are so overused in game play videos that although I really love "Requiem for a Dream", I mute the sound whenever I hear it. Also, I think one of the reasons people add music to their videos is to try to add to their "coolness" factor. It's the same exact reason people play music in the background when they record their voice mail messages. As annoying as it is, some people assume that it makes them seem cool. Another reason could be movies. Almost ever fight scene in modern action flicks has some sort of a tune playing through out the duration.

Completely agree with the OP on this. Take a game like AoC(just talking about the music here, nothing else). The music in that game is phenomenal and should be heard over a popular rock/metal song to get a "feel" for the game. Games like FF also rely heavily on music to help build the game "feel" taking away from this takes away from truly judging a game. Same applies to movies. Try removing the Star Wars music from the movie or replacing it with some person's idea of cool action heavy metal music. doesn't quite work does it?

Too often the music is so fast to match their 120 fps videos, that it becomes even an eyesore to watch. Tired of watching the game videos to fit to a song (or worse they spend more time on some really poor titles to make the game appear longer than 30 seconds -- if I see the free FRAPS logo on top, it's a bypass anyway -- the software is cheaper than most games, if you can't afford it stop advertizing your cheapness!). -- ~Leonardo da Vinci |

I mean even if it's to describe the action or pvp, a lot of the time it's highly out of place and even more for a low quality video. I hate to find that high quality video to hear something bad. Now rock/metal/rap is good only if it plays along to the action. If it don't I will mute it quick, even if i like the song. Also, i don't care how much you like anime and japan animated culture, japanese songs don't do it for me. I can understand Japanese and no they don't add up. -In memory of Laura "Taera" Genender. I completely agree with the OP on this. It really pisses me off when I go to watch a video clip of a game and find that its completely ruined because some spastic thought it it would be a great idea to stick some incredibly cheesy and utterly shit speed metal over it. Whats wrong with these people? Why the hell do they think this is good? Yeah great we get it......you have bad taste in music. Why do these tossers think everyone else wants to hear their crap music? Is it because they feel the need to share a bit of themselves with the rest of the world. Here's a newsflash for all of those sad people that insist on doing this........we dont care about you! We're not interested in what music you like and we have no interest in knowing anything about you or your personal tastes. We just want to watch the game in action and yes that includes the ingame sound effects and music. The last one I noticed with that was a video of a seige battle in AoC. As usual it had the generic speed metal rubbish playing all the way through it. I basicly had to mute it because it was so bloody irritating. I guess this is just what happens when teenagers with no imagination or creative talent get their hands on video editing software. |

god damn metal music in almost EVERY god damn gameplay video. It almost never suits the video or game and always sucks. I find myself muting most videos when i watch them. MMO wish list: -Changeable worlds |
