Well that video looked pretty cool to be honest I think I was slightly put off due to the MTs and well I don't care what anyone says the graphics for a pre-alpha video look sweet. (\ /) ? |

Bioware's first mistake right here: Not at all what I'm looking for in a MMOPRG |
|
|
After really looking at this video and the screen shots, then going back to Ep 3 videos I can see they took a lot of the ideas from the Jedi Temple on Coruscant for the Sith Temple, the walls, the floor, the colors, and the statues are the same ones that stand outside the Jedi temple on Coruscant . As for Korriban itself, it looks a lot like Geonosis, the cliffs, the sky, the overall look. I actually like the art direction. Everything is familiar, yet different. Say all you want about the prequels, they did look pretty good from an art standpoint. |

Well if you compare a WOW character to a SW:TOR character you will see they look nothing alike. Quests are a staple of linear games but with Bioware they won't be asking you to collect 10 rose petals for x amount of XP. Chances are judging from previous and current Bioware games you will be asked to complete assignments/missions for xp which is a heck of a lot better than running around killing mobs all day just for quest items. This is just a small portion of gameplay and I am sure at a later date they will get deeper into the combat system. I like the story emphasis because in Star Wars Universe there is always a story to tell and Bioware is great at doing such things. To me it is a no brainer that Bioware is the perfect fit for a Star Wars themed mmo. |

i have no idea why that guy said in mmo of the past you didnt have a lot of choises ? wth back when swg was out all you had was to chose what to do that day, every day was somthing new to do had 30+ classes to mix and match at will and once you had a good combo or a class picked all you had to do was chose what to do next, there was tonnes of shit to do, i never even did any quest till the CU poped up with that village befor that i was happy hunting mobs and harvesting stuff to build stuff, then i started to HOLO grind see if i could unlock the force that was a lot of stuff to do all the time! guess he thinks most new gamers are to stupid to play games that let you chose, they have to show you A or B or you just stand there doing nothing... wow unreal how Dev think we are all a bunch of drooling morons i am totaly insulted by that video... UNREAL! |

Even if the quests were revolutionary, you will be doing them ALONE. While there should always be an option to solo for the casual loners, they should greatly reward grouping. Group questing and group dynamics should be their number one priority. I want to see the return of outdoor camps, with next gen mechanics. Make them dynamic and chaotic. Make them so a full balanced group is needed and every mistake will cost your group. Reward the most tenacious groups with unique drops. Why has this amazing feature been completely neglected since WoW came out? Why the hell is everyone running around by themselves doing lame fedex quests? It sickens me and it seems like its getting worse with every new MMOG. If you tell me in 2010, when SWTOR is live, that the only way I can truly advance my character will be to run around by myself doing "revolutionary" misisons, I might as well squash my dream of playing in a persistent Star Wars universe now, and save me the utter disappointment. |

Wow. Did you actually watch the WHOLE video and listen to the commentary??? O.o Their "questing dynamic" sounds MUCH more along the lines of "ala Fable" then "ala WoW," to ME, anyway. It does NOT sound like a linear sort of game. They SAID...if you listened...that you make decisions that actually change the course of your characters development and destiny within the world. It sounded very "Fable-ish" to me, which I personally don't think is a BAD thing. Let me guess....you're just waiting for Darkfall and no other game is ever going to be anything "new to see?" Just guessing, but I bet I'm right. :) I'm looking forward to this one, IF....IF....they do what they sound like they're talking about doing. Linearity does indeed get old, old, old. I'm not going to "poo poo" this game just yet. To me, it doesn't sound like another WoW clone. I do also try to keep in mind, unlike SOME folks around these forums, that every MMOrpg is not made JUST FOR ME. There are a LOT of gamers with a LOT of different gaming preferences, and I am not the "God of Gaming," judge, jury, and executioner. It is tremendously arrogant for any of us to think that every single MMOrpg released....should cater to our OWN personal preferences. How silly.

Talking about cutting things to shreds, I tried a free to play game recently called Bloodymare which uses ragdoll physics and has dismemberment (upon death). If F2P games can do this why not the big commercial ones? |

It does sound Fable-ish, And Darkfall is going to FAIL bad, that's why we call it Darkfail. Just wait, early February you'll see their forums turn to complaints and they'll come back here in time to try to elbow their way into a beta spot for TOR.

You know the best thing to do is just read the faq in their forums at www.swtor.com/ because so many jump to conclusions without knowing much about it. I mean really, I can see already that most of us are going to read posts like... 1. This is a WOW clone! 2. What ?? I can make a jedi/sith from the very beginning ? Blasphemy! I'm going to waste my time yelling at Smedley to bring back pre-cu SWG! 3. What no fedex quests ? This is horrible, i'm going back to WOW! 4. I don't care I want my sandbox! 5. EA is horrible because they want my money. Guess I'll give my money to someone else because they hold out their hands with a smile instead. I'm sure there will be a whole list of other things people can complain about and thats fine but the game was only announced not too long ago and already some are just assuming. Too silly in my opinion. |

I didnot like the video but I liked the Lore of the first KOTOR ( never played the second) ...so will see but since it is star wars I will surely give the game a try if/when it comes out
+ like I said before : bioware + lucasart = win.....at least at the moment |

Nice video. |

I just hope they don't make a jedi-only playground of the whole thing. While jedi's will be the most popular choice, there are people who prefer to play other things aswell, like bounty-hunters, medics, smugglers, soldiers and so on. The graphical style of the game is a mixed pot. While I understand their reason for it, it just reminds me of that horrible animated thingie they did for Star Wars a while back. The cartoony look will turn away alot of potential subscribers though, I'm quite sure of it. This game's on my radar though, that's for sure. |

I HATE the cartoony direction. 's too bright and cheerfull. A definate WOW influence (MISTAKE) The game format is loosing me too although I don't have enough information to come to any conclusion. The micro transaction format makes me want to Classes, linear storyline leveling, cartoony MMO. I hope they prove me wrong, If not, EVE's avatar system looks to be a very realistic looking nice addition to a already great SANDBOX MMO. With games on the horizion like Mortal, Darkfall, Earthrise, Fallen Earth, lets hope atleast 1 of these turns out to be a good new open persistant world skill based Sandbox.

I can share neither the doomsaying nor the hyping. As usual. It has some very good aspects, the landscapes are nice enough and the combat looks like a good start. I dont like the simplified clothing, but its still early, so we gonna see. The iconic... err unique character design is kinda lacking. I mean, its functional, but we really need a VAST variety of choice to create our characters really unique in all possible ways. I dont see anything decisive for good or ill here yet. Good potential, but enough detail to make either a killer game or trash. Only time will tell, but we need more visuals. ;)

sounds like a game filled with instances to me. Sorry boys and girls but you can't have deep storytelling without heavy use of instances. they shouldn't have called this game The Old Republic, because the graphic "style" doesn't even match the KOTOR title. call it ... Star Wars Some crappy WOW wannabe or SW:SCWW |

If F2P games can do this why not the big commercial ones? I'm not sure about the cannon but is there light saber resistant things? Also that "spider" thing looked like Acklay in SWG, which would make it a more Boss type monster. On top of that I think the video of that was set up specifically to show some PvE combat...not actual speed of killing things. As for dismemberment/blood/etc its all about rating. LA probably want a Teen rating so that stuff isn't possible. Not to mention the technical aspect depends on the game engine. Bloddymare uses a different engine that does certain things better and others worse. Remember that F2P games are usually Asian games that get licensed by another company for NA/International. They spend YEARS in development and make just as much money in their home markets as ours do in our home markets. The NA F2P is just to milk some extra cash from the cow so to speak. So any game being F2P doesn't mean that devolopers/coders aren't top notch. They are just as commercial in their home markets as ours are here. |

what a crappy art style. |

I adamantly dislike the art. I like the gameplay though. However, it's like sleeping with a chick because she has a "good personality". Doesn't happen (unless you're loaded) and since I don't plan on being in a constant state of alcoholism, I probably won't play this game. (I'll pay for it and play it for a month or two before I stop though) Star Wars, at least in it's most preserved form, was quite a gritty world. It had flourishes of unique characters, optimistic dialouge, and the quintessential "white knights" trying to dissolve a fundamentally evil empire. The theme was shifty, dangerous and suspenseful. It was a perverse world, and I oppose the derision of the pragmatic stylism that the original movies, and games for that matter, possesed. That's what made it, the originals, so great. Jedi Knight = win Why this? Why? "Woah....Wait......Dude, am I driving right now?" |
