The majority of the posters are a bunch of pansies.  I don't mean that in a bad way.  Not really.  It's nice to have a good discussion now and then, but what usually ends up happening is someone says, "Your a moron" and the post gets reported.  I've been banned .. a lot for doing just that (hell, I even said, Yeah, stupid people bother me too.. and I received a week ban..)

So.. I'll get the "Why do you keep posting?"  ..

Well, this is the only place where the forums are actually really close to each other.

That still doesn't explain why you post. You know there is a thing called lurking which doesn't require you to post at all. We really don't need "your a moron" posts in these forums. A) Because it is not needed B) It is not grammatically correct.

Yep, that's the core of the problem. If we could get rid of all those people who have to ruin good discussions with comments like that, these forums would be great. ;-)

I would ask you to think, but I'm afraid you would hurt something.

They didn't say they weren't hypocrites...

Any who, never got banned that I know of. Though I usually try to remain constructive.

I just think of my staying as an attempted enlightenment of the unwashed masses...as oblivious, contradictory, and outright incorrect on oh so many things without any form of support or even proper argument as they may be.

Eh...it works...

MMOs I remember: AC, AA, DAoC, EQ, EQ2, L, L2, PS, LOtrO, DDO, Planetside, BE WW2, WoW, Ryzom, SWG, TR, CoX, HL, DR, PT, Exteel, Guild Wars, AO, Archlord, Dreamlords, Atlantica, Entropia, EVE, FF XI, Maple Story, Ogre Island, Planeshift, Rappelz, RFO, Runescape, MXO, SotNW, SL, Vanguard, UO, WAR, PotBS.

Mmos I subscribe to: Real Life 2.5, now with full alcohol/inebriation simulation!

I need a better game...

I'm just posting because I'm not playing right now and i love MMORPGs. You will see how fast i leave the forums as soon Darkfall or Aion get launched or may be any other MMORPG that can attract me.

They ban much too fast on this forum.

I have said some thing which got me banned, but on the other hand not all my posts are like this.

I don't say things I wouldn't say to your face and I don't go out and provoke unless you provoke me and somehow I can't controll myself, which I usually do.

Banning someone who constantly makes offensive posts, np, but banning someone who says something offensive in one or two posts, no.

Would agree with the OP to a degree as i was shocked when i recieved a warning from the site a little while back.

I had responded to a pretty offensive post by starting with the line "you're an idiot" (not my usual post, but this guy really was) and then went on to explain why i had responded in that way and how his original post was offensive to just about everyone.

I could probably have accepted that my post was a little over the top if they hadn't taken the move to also remove the whole thread that this guy had started because of it's content.

What was even more annoying was that i wrote to ask if my post had been considered in the context of what the OP had originally written and if there had actually been any complaints about it other that from the OP and i was told that they didn't care about that, what i had written was considered a personal attack and would not be tolerated and that will be their final word on the matter!

It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.

Biggest problem with mmorpg.com's forums however is the moderators and those silly rules they got around here. If you got a somewhat offensive opinion you'll get a tempban around here if you write it down, and by offensive I mean anything not american. Got a few bans like that myself from some totally idiotic reasons and just goes to prove that mmorpg.com owns opinion so better keep yours in check if you want to keep posting around here.

MMO doesn''t mean only Groups/Guilds/PvP gaming.
It’s many people playing *different* game styles.

Yeppers. Especially in passionate topics. It's the sum of the posts that counts, not so much as a stray rant that gets carried away. I know I have a temper, but I do cool down.

The main problem in my view is closer to the fact that WOW has totally polarized the mmo community into two camps. At first it was the wow bashers who struck, but now the WOWboys have nothing better to do but put other games down. Trolling also occurs on a minor level between fans of smaller games.

This is not about WOW or any other game directly, people had strong opinions before WOW was around and will long after it is gone.

I agree with one of the above posts and it is one of the other things that winds me up, the moderators will allow pretty much any profanity in a post, but call someone an idiot and it is ban hammer time.

I have in the past reported posts for excessive swearing or downright abusive language and nothing has been done about it (other than maybe a small edit to take out the worst of it when the mood takes them), seems wierd to me.

follow the rules or get your post deleted and your account banned/warned. From what i can see from your OP, i can tell you probably deserved your bans. If you cant learn to debate without calling somebody a moron, then you should stay out of arguements and debates.

While this is a noble idea, do you really expect every moderator on the forums to research a user's posting history when a post is reported? I might expect that from forums with paid registration, but not free ones.

And I'm not sure I'd agree that because you usually post in a constructive way you should get away with calling someone a moron when others don't. It's a bit like saying someone who works for charity should be left off the hook for theft (yes, I know they may actually get less punishment, character witnesses and all that). ;-)

I don't know the guidelines on these forums, but expect suspension times increase with repeated offenses, so if you only stray off the "be nice" path once in a while I imagine you'll be looking at a 3-7 day suspension at most, while a repeated bad-mouther will end up with a permanent ban in the end.

The forums are a lot like what people keep complaining is lacking in the games, freedom but with consequences for your actions.  You're free to post anything you want but don't act suprised when you get warned or banned.

Agree

I would add a small side note...There are ways of calling people "morons" without directly attacking them. Make your post so convincing that to believe otherwise one must surely be an imbecile.

Yep, because here it takes no longer than 2 minutes to figure it out.

Problem is anyone can go around and report a post, and lazy moderators tend to just fire off one of those preformed "Troll" forms, instead to even briefly investigate the complaint.

Was reading a forum here and a guy who was giving very highly technical info (guy knew what he was talking about and even proved it). A driveby came around and called this dude an "idiot" and worse. He responded pretty well considering the trash thrown at him -- guess who got a moderator warning? That happens w-a-y too much on forums, especially commerical and cliquish ones, when moderators don't bother to RESEARCH who is sending a FALSE report.

So yes, ANY compliant needs to be investigated before firing off a warning.

Admining and Moderating 101.

Things weren't polarized until it came out, though. Things have gotten worse here, not better, even in the last year or so.

Agreed , I've had temp bans for the most ridiculous reasons ...... if you want freedom of speech dont bother posting on these forums as freedom of speech here does'nt exist .. if you want to tow the Mmorpg.com line , well then have fun !

I don't think moderation here is that bad overall.

Although no-one has ever said anything to me, I have had 'Wrist Slaps' in the form of drops in Ranking a few times, including fairly recently after a couple of posts got deleted

I make a point of never using bad language, but I also don't tend to back down in an argument so maybe some of the 'Wrist Slaps' were deserved & who cares about rankings anyway.

If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?

That is just the popular "WOW is the root of all evil" argument and there are plenty of people that don't play WOW, have no opinion about it either way or have never visited it's forums, so do their views not count at all??

Just because WOW was released the world didn't become a more hostile place ovenight, i can clearly remember 2 world wars in the history books long before WOW came around.
