I mean not setting but conception. In both games no safe zones, skillbased rp-system, strong crafting, and pvp oriented on teamplay. And yes, you lose your goodies when die. Then the question: how many ganking is in EVE? I'd say some guys never see it for the whole their EVE life... And EVE got more subscribers than say LOTRO. Sure enough, EVE has not only good conception, but good execution as well. I guess, it's execution that's made it so popular. So I guess if DF will be made properly it won't fail. |

One thing you are forgetting though about EvE as it stands today.
How long did it take EvE to get where it's at right now?
They had a pretty rough start and even went through a company change of hands and some mis-management before things finally started to head in the right direction for them. EvE did not start out very polished, and went through quite a few growing pains before they settled into their nice stable subscriber base. Just thought that worth pointing out. |

Err, no. They had a rough start with their publisher, but the actual game did not change hands. What did change hands was the lincese, which ccp bought back from their incompetent publisher. ;) |

Please correct me, if I am wrong: In EVE: stations are safe, crafting itself is very boring (maybe you mean the economy, which is the best ever), many people play with multiple accounts (in a so called sandbox-game, so you can 2x or 3x do whatever you want). I read somewhere that EVE at a point was close to bankruptcy. EVE is a very good game for what it is, but it doesn´t cure cancer. ;)

I seem to remember some kind of a scandal with a Dev. or an owner, or something like that though. I suppose I could go and Google it to refresh my memory, but feeling kinda lazy atm. Sorry.
Edit: Heh... couldn't resist even after I said I was too lazy... Here are some links to the scandal I was talking about. The comments section provides some good insight as well. kotaku.com/gaming/eve-online/scandal-hits-eve-online-234863.php www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/board.pl
This link gives a lot of quotes by CCP's CEO and explains a bit of EvE's early days. Was a good refresher on the history of the game. www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php
Anyway... back to being lazy now for me. |

Another noteworthy aspect is the fact that Fantasy MMO's tend to have a larger following than Sci-Fi MMO's. |

Higher security systems are pretty much safe areas. People rarely attack others in high sec systems because the NPC security forces will insta-kill the attacker(s) before they can destroy the preys ship. |
