I might be wrong but I get the feeling all these people who love WoW hate all these WoW clones, may as well just play WoW they say even though they are getting sick of it. To make WoW 2.0 would be a tremndously stupid decision. Simply a different world with different characters, classes and skills but with the same quest heavy, simple skills/items system wont be hit past the initial box sales. By the same token neither will a full on UO skill system, AO item system, EvEs marketplace and politics in a full loot open PvP world. I've never known Blizzard to make a bad game, WoW may be simple but so was Diablo, its just that many of us here were already experts in the genre before its release. There must be a fun satisfying quality to it for a newcomer of which there are very few left which leads me to believe they will aim there game to a more intermediate level of gamer and a decent game to boot.

No matter what you think about WOW, when Blizzard talks about their next MMO, EVERYONE will listen. |

it could be a sandbox, or some FPS MMO like Stargate Worlds, but I would like to play something like Spore but with the MMO component |

this could be f'ing fantastic news... it could be total bullshit.. or to a lesser extent it could just be another huge letdown on the way.......
I think the only way I could get really excited about an MMO nowadays is for Blizz to make a TRULY different MMO...
time will tell

I think it may be something different. While they may go the route WoW did, I believe they have enough money and the balls to do something different. Either way its not like they would lose subscriptions. If they dont like the new one they will stay with wow. I have enjoyed blizzards games and have confidence that this next one wont be so bad. But thats just me. |

Before WOW, there were MMORPG''s. After WOW there were online solo single RPG''s. |
It would make sense to me for it to be another fantasy MMO. Why? WOW is long in the tooth and has to be gradually phased out by another game or those fantasy players will look elsewhere. Fantasy MMO's are the staple of the MMO market. And for the fanbase of an aging and very introductory MMO, a more challenging fantasy MMO makes perfect sense. I have a feeling there are many, many WOW players looking for a new game and experienced enough to kick off the "training wheels" and go a bit more hardcore. We will see.

Activision/Blizzard should be banned from making future MMOs after the incredible harm they've inflicted to the MMO industry and community on a whole... |

Who cares.... more vanilla train ride MMOs for the dumbed down masses..... For the number of times that SOE has destroyed the game I loved, even after it was very clear it was not what the majority wanted, I feel that they should start making donations to us- Paradox (SWG) http://www.fragglerockforever.com/swg/antiTCGloot.gif |

Just realized, the OP said "Blizzard/Activision", possibly meaning "Activision Blizzard", which is not the same as Blizzard Entertainment. Activision Blizzard is the distributor / publisher coming out of the merger between Activision and Vivendi Games (and thus Blizzard Entertainment's distributor), and may very well publish non-Blizzard MMOGs at any point. So even if there was a "Blizzard/Activision" title announced, it'd likely not be a Blizzard one. ;-) --- |

Pssh, anyone with half a brain could tell that it isn't going to be diablo, or starcraft, or warcraft, it's....it's...it's THE LOST VIKINGS MMO!

Thinking logicaly for a bit, I figure IF blizzard in fact does announce a new mmo in a foreseable future, it will be anything BUT a WOW clone with different skin. I mean - why would they eat away at their current top hit while it is still going strong (and considering the lackluster competition in general - with a couple of bright exceptions ofc), and will probably be going strong for some more years. At this point they probably have enough money to be able to experiment a bit and try covering another part of the market, instead of creating competition for themselves. |

IF (big if btw) Blizzard comes out with a NEW mmo anytime soon you can bet it either won't be subscription based or it will include a "Station pass" type of subscription that includes World of Warcraft. There is no way that even Blizzard can compete with World of Warcraft. Currently playing: Looking Foward too: |

So it won't be WoW. That doesn't mean it won't be WoW-like. That's the problem.
It won't be WoW-like either as most devs that were part of the initial WoW development team are gone and no longer working at Blizzard. When www met dot , they then stumbled upon Secret Society , wich happened to be a Guild , wich in turn told dot about the net . |
