Vanguard failed because Brad McQuaid is no business man and he shouldn't have tried to run a company. He should stay the artist he is by creating games that have heart and soul. If this fellow is like Brad, then I can't wait to play this game. If your comment about Brad was suppose to be negative, I don't see it that way. That man knows how to create a fantastic MMORPG. The MMORPGs of today do not compare to the depth of EQ to this day. Sure they are pretty but lack substance. |

Lets face it, MMOs today are turning into single player console games with a chat box included. |

Yeah I look up to Brad too, he didnt have the "heart" to be the one to tell his employees in the buildings parkinglot that they were all fired and had 15 minutes to clear out their desks. Nice of him to keep consultant pay with SOE while everyone else got axed too, real gentleman. Theyve both contributed to the overall negative atmosphere that is so prevalent in the genre these days. |

Well, most people dont like arrogance. Some do. Some also do like when people talk to them dirty, when they have mouth-plug and they are getting whiped by a leather whip. To me, Tasos was the one whipping. And I didn't like that. Now if he were a hot chick in a tight leather cat suit... mmmmm I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time. |

So your saying you trust a guy like this.
"hey I see you build cars?" "Yeah... I am building it myself... really fantastic want to know more?" "Sure what's so special about it?" "Well for starters we are revolutionizing the auto industry. My car gets 10 times the MPG of other cars, fits 32 people, and will last for 50 years without repair, all for the same size and price of cars on the market today." "Wow... That sounds impressive. How many cars have you designed before?" "None... this is our flagship model... I did go to school online and learned how to build them though..." "Um... OK... well how long have you been working on this car?" "The car has been in production for 5 years now... pretty standard for development really." "But your sign over there says you have been in business for 8 years..." "Oh we have... There were these small time mechanics that thought up the car, but it wasn't until later that we really got motivated so those first few years don't count." "Um... OK... well how close are you to finishing it?" "Glad you asked... the car actually is ready... We have been driving it around the backyard for years. All the systems work great in it too." "Can I see it?" "Nope... While it is completely ready and I can't stress that enough... We are waiting on a company to distribute the car... They are really slow and we have to try and get them up to speed." "Well how many people have tested the car?" "Another great question! Most of the testing has been done by computers plugged into it. We feel this is a great substitute for actual drivers. Our computers are nothing like you have seen before... We have revolutionized those too." "Wait... no one has driven it then?" "That's not what I said... Yes... there have been a few drivers. I really can't discuss it right now though, but I can tell you that they all loved it." "So I can't see it, I can't drive it, it is better then any car on the market today, everything used to test it is revolutionary, but you have had no prior experience... is that correct?" "Yup... fantastic car... When we do release it, the market will forever be changed." "And your doing this out of your 1 car garage...." "Absolutely!" "What about all those people across the street with picket signs?" "Oh.. You noticed them? They are jealous because our car is so great." "But they have not seen it yet..." "Nope! They can just sense the greatness and are just lashing out... They just want us to fail... don't ask me why." "Thanks for your time... I think I will wait across the street with them to see what happens." "Go ahead... Obviously my greatness is too much for you and you hate out of fear." "Sure... what ever makes you sleep at night." That sounds about right for the past 4 - 5 years. Like I said before... Tasos = Smedley -Atziluth- - Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity. |

Wow...one thing is quite evident from this interview and that's Tasos is quite confident of his product. That leads me to one of two conclusions... Darkfall with either be a huge hit or a gigantic flop. I remember this type of confidence from Brad M prior to Vanguard's release. Let's hope Tasos & company actually delivers.. If he can deliver we're in for quite a title. Dutchess Zarraa Voltayre |

Not to mention the obvious...Developers DO READ forums, weather you choose to believe it or not. They are for the most part told to NOT respond or get involved in forums ,but yes they do read them.Forums OFTEN do force/discuss content being changed by developers, the released product is NOT the final end all.I am in a game right now that has become hotly discussed over some of it's mechanics ,and the DEVS have already made two changes and more are expected. I have seen in a very short time ,the MMORPG community become a LOT more educated as to how and what developers are doing. This goes a long way in people trusting developers and weather or not we the consumer are willing to fork out cash BEFORE the game is released OR even after it is released. There is a large group of people now that want to see a free trial or some better evidence these guys can produce and not just talk.We saw the PROMISE of DnL,it sounded looked to be amazing/promising,then ends up a failure. Plain and simple ,people are a lot smarter now because of forums, they learn a lot from other people and about other games, and alot about developers.People have also become a lot more educated in READING BETWEEN THE LINES,they can gather fact from fiction.Forums are VERY helpful in a LOT of ways. Even this simple QA has shed some light nobody would know about if not for this forum, they said WORD COMING out in a few days.If not for the constant discussion over this game,i doubt the QA would have even taken place ,or these direct questions would have even been asked. |

He shouldnt have been "slightly defensive" he shouldnt have been defensive at all, its not hard to dismiss criticism, or explain the problem in question logically, and without anger.
Sigh...you are determined to complain about his attitude over and over and over. Just how many posts are you going to make complaining about it? (you have to be up to several dozen now) I'm sorry he hurt your feelings, or shocked and horrfied you with his "bad attitude", or didn't come off as a PR flack for EA, but you'll just have to get over it. The EMO attitude doesn't become you. This game will either be good, and people will play it, or it will suck , and people won't play it. This interview or Tasos attitude will have little to do with the ultimate success of the game.

They were perfectly legitimate questions that many people have been asking about the game for quite some time and I thought that Tasos did a fine job of answering them. We are INCREDIBLY interested in Darkfall(and all new MMOs for that matter). Not to sound rude, I eman you';re entitled to your opinion, but would you have preferred I ask what his favorite color was?
They were not negative at all. And ultimately, the answers are the same old stuff from DF. We are going to see very, very shortly if this is all nonsense.
And to you DF-religious-fanatics, I don't know how many times people have to say this, but here it is again: The skepticism surrounding this game is based entirely on the development cycle, the pathetic release of info on the game, the lack of real "previews" by any credible gaming outlet, the lack of "showing the game off" at conferences, the absurdity of ZERO "beta leaks", etc, etc, etc......I could fill an entire page on it. They have created it. There are people who are skeptical just for the hell of it, but in this case, the developers have made their bed. The spetics are using common sense and reason. Period. |

Makes me wonder if his company and his game is also a creation of a regular forum user, as in - it is all in his mind, as in - it is all made up, as in - it is vaporware. Sorry, not a reason.
But hey, I'm patient. I'm sure we'll get something this month. be it an announcement or even release. I'll be happy to see where it goes. Honestly, do you really think they stayed focused for seven years on just that aspect of the games developement? It's common knowlodge they developed their own inhouse game engine to run the game on. That alone adds 3 to 4 years to a develpement cycle.

I'm going to play it, whenever it comes out. Been watching all these comments, and it's classic groupthink haterade. No matter what this guy tasos says or does, some of you will put a negative spin/find fault with it. You have to know the game exists, FFS..no idea if it will be good, but to continually repeat BS and slam the guy..wow.. |

To those who say they won't play because Tasos came off as rude or because they feel they've been lied to: Grow up. None of this pre-release nonsense is going to matter if/when the game comes out. If it's good, people will play it. If all your friends start playing, I'd like to see you stick to your promise to boycott it because the devs "offended" you. To those who say DF should allow big media in to test the game for free publicity: Uh, why? It seems to me that not doing this is getting them quite a bit of publicity. At least, that's what all your purposeless raving seems to indicate. Personally, I don't think anyone is in a position to criticize Aventurine's PR stance. They spent approximately nothing, and via vague announcements and morsel-by-morsel information releases, they've accumulated an enormous community with plenty of word-of-mouth power. Publicizing their game at this point would probably, at best, have next to no effect. At worst, it could sabotage the popularity of their game (if, say, it's not as polished inside as we've been led to believe). Before a game is released, all the devs are responsible for is ensuring people are talking about their game. Look at how popular this thread is and tell me they've failed. |

lol at people that say they wont play the game because they feel Tasos wasn't nice. That's not the way it works. Who here doesn't shop at walmart cuz theyre assholes and make ppl of third world countries work for pennies ? A small minority ! And the same can be said for most big companies out there, even though we know theyre assholes, we buy it because we like the product. There are 2 ways of selling your crap. Putting all your energy in advertisement, selling preorders and stuff like that, even though your product sucks. (DnL anyone ?) Or putting your energy in making a good product and relying on word to mouth as your publicity. Darkfall doesn't sell preorders, and they have been clear that they will use a "Try before you buy" formula, something very few games dare to do these days. When Darkfall releases, (WHEN, since there is now an official date) and if it scores a 8.5 or more /10, will you still be playing it even though you think he was a prick ? Yes. And if not, well youll still be the one missing out and noone will care.
