January 22, 2009 eh? It seems strange that everyone has seemingly forgotten that they had promised a December 2008 release date, this happend before... 2 times even... So why is everyone so apt to beleive them this time. i mean.. they've done it before, they've just done it now. Just because they added numbers in with the date; that makes it beleiveable?
I dunno.. I'm still skeptical (and go ahead read my posts I'm no troll)
PS: what happend to the beta? I'm almost convenced that they have a legitimate Closed Beta going on now. but no open beta at all? are they praying that their testers find everything or is there another beta phase going on... And if there is an expected open beta I guess it would have to happen Very soon right? seeing as how the release date (supposedly) is now just a little over another month away... Yet.. i see no update explaining why the previous date for the Open Beta test was passed over like nothing was planned there.

I agree, to treat this announcement as though DF is actually out there, working, is very naive. It gives them a bit more time. Release dates can be broken. There's plenty more mileage in this yet. The fanboys have shown they're not tiring of being led on. Wait for the excuses in this forum the end of Jan. Playing: Eve, Fallen Earth, Entropia. Trying D&D Online |

I was under the impression they had never set a hard date in December? That is was just part of the vague "we hope to release in 2008" idea? Have they ever issued a press release like the one on their site today with a hard date like that? |

unless there some sort of open beta date any time before christmas then no |

Firstly, In my opinion they never promised a 2008 release date. They said open beta will end early December and the game will be ready to release shorty after, but there are many other things that need to be taken into account to have an official release. They need to have everything in place, servers set up, etc. A GNi rep stating they are opening Darkfall servers within 60 days (1-2 weeks ago). An official press release from Aventurine stating an exact release date. Tasos stating in an interview that they are ready to release the game on their side. Yes, of course I believe it. |

I still don't believe him, In that interview he said the game Is ready to launch at any time and is at a better state than any game that was in the same development phase or something like that. I only read a few lines because I just can't believe a damn word that comes out of that guys mouth....... If the game is so "Ready" to launch then why isn't It launching in 2008 like he said before?

Open betas exist because that is what the community is used to. They have never been needed, but were such a standard to the industry that people no longer see how you can not have a open beta and still do well. At it's core, an Open Beta is used to stress test hardware and bring out as many bugs as possible in a short amount of time. Lately an Open Beta has become a kind of showcase event where people get to "try before you buy" and nothing is really worked on. These guys are confident they don't need an open beta... I wonder why not have one anyway... But I am impressed they stepped up and placed their balls on the table. |

i know i kow Tasos keeps saying its ready... but if its so ready... why keep breaking dates? This is why im so skeptical ................................................... |

Yep I have no faith in this game ever being released as I have stated MANY MANY times on this site. It was said to start beta for years, was said to release in DEc., now it's Jan 09.
In jan 09 it will be jun 09 then in jun 09 it will be Nov 09, then in Nov 09 it will be Feb 10, then Feb 10 who the hell cares anymore.

I can't wait to see what the vaportrolls will say on the day this game is released.. |

Had not been following Darkfall this year, but I must say... in the past six months, the posts for this game has been ridicoulous! Looking at the home page "Most Popular" list, this game over 6 months has creeped up and passed all the other games, including Aion (which I am waiting for) so I had to pop in and see what all the hubbub is about. Now I see Darkfall has over 7,300 hits today ALONE. After reading through a few postings, I see a gigantic traffic accident about to occur. Someone is driving a Yugo and someone is driving a semi, although its unclear to me at this point whether its the fanbois or the trolls driving the semi. So far, and based on an actual release date given by Darkfall despite trolls saying otherwise, it appears that the trolls are driving that Yugo. But we won't really know until January it seems. I see a LOT of backtracking posts made by a few individuals altering statements they made previously (yep, I was bored so I looked up what they posted). I saw a lot of fence sitters who were on the troll side beating Darkfall down, but laid JUST ENOUGH nice things to say that they later can claim they weren't really trolling, but wanted the game to make it lol.

The real question is, once Jan 09 has come and gone, are will still gonna have to sit here and listen to the rabid fans go on and on about how we need to just give them more time, and how "it's coming don't worry".
PS: Popinjay, this is for you, I have never been on the fence about this game, I also do not consider myself a "troll", I am just a realist, and the reality is, this game will never see the light of day. |

This is the first time Aventurine have posted a specific release date. Period. There have been many 'we plan to release by' or 'we hope beta begins' here and there but this is the first firm release date. For example, it said coming December 2008 at the end of the recent videos, however this could have indicated beta and was deliberately abstract. Whether it makes the January 22nd release date is a different story. |

Lets face it, MMOs today are turning into single player console games with a chat box included. |

Nope, once Jan has come and gone, more likely the argument will be how GOOD the game actually is since it would be out. The "will it launch ever" debate would have been settled. The only issue after that will be gameplay. If it does lauch, expect trolls to nitpick down anything they can regarding gameplay to salvage some face after a couple years of battering.("I KNOW I said it wouldn't launch, but its 22 days late, they lied, and its stinks anyway") Fanbois will point to 'revolutionary' things as justification if they don't work so hot ("no one has ever tried this, so give them a break") "You know, you have such a stunningly superficial knowledge of what went on that it's almost embarrassing to listen to you." Zbigniew Brzezinski to Joe Scarborough regarding Clinton and the Middle East on the "Morning Joe" program. |

Why does it have to be awesome? He merely stated it would prove the vaporware trolls wrong i.e. it actually exists. No one knows how good it is going to be. |

Personally, I would think that we are beyond the vaporware conversation and into these arguments: 1.) Will they make the date or push it back? 2.) Will the launch turn into a huge goatrope?

Yeah but seriously, We aren't going to have to worry about that cause it isn't coming out on Jan 22. It isn't coming out in June 09 or Nov 09 and not Feb 10. I also am not gonna come on here on Jan 23 and say "I told you so!" either.
You would hope on Jan 23. that these people just take the humble approach and stop posting shit all together.
Would be better. |

While I agree Darkfall doesn't have to be AWESOME to be successful (thats just a stupid thing to say.. WAR is alive still and thats far from 'awesome'), you are not totally right. There has been plenty of hype from the fanboi base claiming it will be awesome. So only THOSE people have to worry, not the developers. As I said before, they only have to build a game BETTER than Warhammer or AoC and they win because they are not awesome. Case closed and they would win the PvP crown. I don't suppose for one minute all the promised features will be in at launch. I played UO from 1 month after launch and that sure as hell wasn't an awesome game at that point let me assure you. My point was there are two kinds of vaporware trolls, one kind doesn't believe it'll even be released, the other kind believes it'll be released and it'll be rubbish. I was talking about the first kind. |
