"and another post where you completely ignore the fact that you were proven wrong." Pretty funny statement since the game is not out yet and no one has playtested it or done a review on it. Rather hard to prove any one wrong when your entire argument is based on statements only from the mouths of the developers. By now you should have at least gleemed that over hype is common in this industry. Whether anything, including comments by Tasos, is true, no one will know until the game is out, that is if it comes out. |

He proved him wrong about the fact that sye said that Aventurine had not done any PR for DF which is completely false as he stated, learn to read because you will just embarrass yourself by trying to argue something that isn't even being discussed |

This interview would have been more interesting and factual had they made up a dev company and game and then held the interview with his own hand. |

I said it in another post and I will say it again. The style of PR/Marketing that DF is using is causing folks to not trust the product. Tasos, and the fanboi's labeling anyone who asks for concrete proof as trolls is only hurting this game's potential success before it even comes out. Notice, that I said "comes out." I am assuming it will realease. I have no evidence it won't. So, I am not saying that DF is vaporware. What I am objecting to is all the secrets, ploys and fishy seeming tactics that are being employed. It is shattering my trust of the product and its associated service and is causing me to take a negative view on a product I once looked forward to. It makes wonder how good it really is, and if the services (like customer support) can be trusted and so on. I can truly appreciate DF for not hyping up like other games. In that way I can understand the idea that no news will be released until they have something of merit to say. I am totally down with that. What wrankles my hide is all the secrecy, yet they post pages of "player testimonials" that are pure hype and cannot give me even a tiny sample to help me see the truth in the reviews... let alone proof that the reviewers themselves exist. It is about a lack of trust. The poster above talked about the game being a service as opposed to a product. While one can argue that for a long while, I know this: Services require a great deal more of trust on the customer's part than a products does. Why? Because a product is tangible; it can be held in your hand (like a game's box). A service is, on the other hand, solely based on the promise (aka trust) that the provider will actually come through and provide the service to the customer's expectations. Without trust, services fail. Darkfall is building hype to be sure, but it is NOT building trust, and DF's ardent supporters are not helping the issue at all. In fact, it is, in my opinion, severely undermining DF's reputation and is tarnishing what could be an excellent game's image. DF looks awesome. It really does. But, all I am asking is for someone to bolster my trust and therefore my support. |

Talk about putting all your eggs in one basket, if he doesn't make this game happen he will be disgraced from the gaming community forever, the way he's carrying on. O_o o_O |

First off, I didn't read all the posts on here (for obvious reasons). Secondly, I'm pleased as punch that it looks like Darkfall is not vaporware and I can't wait to play it. *STOKED* Third, to anyone who says "he's (Tasos) a prick/douschebag/asshole/full of himself" from this interview, are we reading the same interview? He seemed pretty down to earth for me. More to the point, who gives a flying f**k what kind of people are making the game if it's revolutionary and really flipping fun. Get over yourselves *period*. Finally, people who pick apart the little details and still claim vaporware, get over yourselves also. If you're right and it is vaporware, no one cares. If you're wrong you've just spent weeks/years trolling over a game you'll never play (or perhaps you'll begrudgingly fall in love with) and making yourself look like a douschebag. I haven't been waiting for this specific game for years, but in spirit I've been waiting for this kind of game since SWG got trashed and banged a diseased hooker while becoming addicted to cocane. - Theguruofreason |

I just read Stradden's/Jon Wood's posts in this thread and I gotta say. Dudes.. Chill out. Why are you hostile towards Jon Wood? I know he's media, and we sometimes don't like media.. But, he brought us some good content and Zorvan. It's exactly what he's doing. This is groundwork for more features in the future. And he is mmorpg media. Dudes, how much mmorpg media do we have? Not that much.. I think we should respect the people here at mmorpg.com a little. And after all.. it is one of thew few places you can talk without getting excessively moderated. They cover so many mmorpgs here. New mmorpgs and old mmorpgs. I don't know.. It just seems a bit unfair.
And Jon Wood is absolutely right when he asks those questions. Zorvan made a long thread and requested some more Darkfall information. I can't say we weren't all thinking of this. I saw some threads about it earlier, but I guess Zorvan has some power with his many posts and him being relatively friends with staff here. - Which is weird, cause he always expresses disappointment in everything. Just like he was pessimistic about this interview. My point is that Zorvan along with a ton of other "trolls" keep saying vaporware so many times in the DF community that it's not offensive. It would have been offensive if Jon Wood brought it up by himself as a new word or something very few had said.
Seriously. Get off your high horses and point the finger at yourselves for thinking DF is vaporware. It's clearly not.
About Tasos. I've been a big fan of Tasos for a while now. He's one of my favourite developers of all times (even though he's a producer, hehe). And I was happy to hear him talk about the game. Hell. I am ALWAYS happy to hear ANYTHING Tasos has to say. I just wish he had time to post with regular members. Well. We will see. Maybe in the future when our big subscriber base can pay for 50 more developers on the team.
I understand some of you people don't really like that you get very little information. I don't like it either. But, we do get some and I think they do try to meet with media and as Tasos says. They do what they can. So wtf? Everyone just stop being so friggin hostile towards Tasos, Darkfall, Aventurine and Jon Wood + Mmorpg.com. You guys are totally unfair. And why question if Aventurine will have good customer support in the future? sheesh.. I bet they will have good cs like most other games.
You know.. The most problematic unit is probably the community members. You, me, us, them ... We are so difficult sometimes. We need to realize that indie developers are not out to cheat us. Mmorpg.com is not out to make money on us. .. They actually have 6 staff members. They need advertisement. Don't be a communist. You need ads to run a newspaper. The only people that are out to make our lives miserable are probably some publishers in the mmorpg industry. Maybe some developers that gave up on their projects as something inventive and just want money. You do not see indie developers or games with relatively long development cycle do this. .. Which brings me to something else.. Well, Tasos says DF has been in development since 2003 and it's true. cause they completely remade the company and remade their game back then. Started from scratch. But, they did work on Darkfall prior to that. I believe Kjetil, Claus, Henning and Ricki started in 1999. Or did Ricki join later and it was just those 3? Anyways.. ya. Well. That's what I wanted to say.

You must have me confused with someone else. Personally I’m going to watch, wait, and maybe check it out if it survives past the 6th month mark, and taco hasn’t screamed and flamed the player base away.
What the hell are you smoking?? First statement "Because the backlash of crying is going to resound for at least 6 months." Now if this does not constitute trolling then I don't know what does. Do yourself and everyone else a favour gtfo. ***************************** |

The developers should apologise for their marketing? Are you serious? They owe you nothing, well maybe a kick in the ass for such a idiotic request. |

Atheki. Remember to mention that they completely restarted the development process somewhere around there too. |

I like how he said he plans on marketting the game by giving a good product and retaining the userbase. That's what all MMO makers should have been doing for years. Whether or not DF flops, at least he'll have that much going for him.
WRONG AoC dev Athlan or whatever his name was, started that debacle, and that is a fact. ***************************** |

I also agree with Borluc. It was hostile questions. Questions based on the unjustiful trolling that been going on over the years here at MMORPG.com. Its like saying we on MMORPG.com believe in the trolls and their aggressive trolling have been the most interesting part over the years. Lets only ask questions based on this.
I'm going to respond to a number of the above quoted posts: There was absolutely no disrespect intended, and I'm pretty sure that none was percieved by the Aventurine Dev team. I think it would have been extremely disrespectful to ask softball questions when a large number of the members of our community wanted to know the answers to these questions. Why did I ask Tasos how he responded to those who called the game vaporware? Well, I asked because I thought that it would be nice to know... What Tasos had to say to those accusations. In media, when accusations are made, it's customary to follow up on them and give them people on the other end of the accusations a chance to respond. In this case, Tasos chose to, and I think he did a good job of it too. I'm not sure what I did here that you think is disrespectful. It's not like Tasos and the team haven't heard the accusations before.... It's not like anyone who reads the article hasn't heard them before... So why not get it out in the open and address it rather than pretending it never happened. Asking honest questions about the game and its development cycle, especially when it is somehow out of the ordinary (not saying it's bad, just different), isn't trolling, it's looking for information. Frankly, I wouldn't have been doing my job if I hadn't asked those questions. Next time I'll be sure to find out the name of his favorite band or somethinequally irrelevant to the story.
Stradden I applaud your questions, Tasos is making a FFA/PvP full loot game, so I think he can appreciate the straight on questions. ***************************** |

To be honest, I've found his attitude in this article far from pleasant. He really sounded like an elitish puberal arrogant ass. Sorry to say it like that. Nothing about thick skin, vaporware trolls this and that. If you are going to answer an interview this is clearly not the way to answer. He really thinks he is the king of the MMO industry, seeing how he reacted and thinks about other MMO companies. Sorry tho, but he should be a bit more respectful towards the competition. As so far they themselves haven't delivered anything yet and are a new indy company in this bussiness. And this arrogant elitish attitude isn't going to do them any favors! Maybe he should keep both his feet on the ground and act a bit more humiliate and normal. Cheers When www met dot , they then stumbled upon Secret Society , wich happened to be a Guild , wich in turn told dot about the net . |
