I liked DAoC a lot. I thought the grouping was good, the PvE was good, and the PvP was good. I"m talking classic DAoC, the first release before any expansions, definitely before TOA. However, I did have a big complaint about DAoC. Why, oh why, do I have to wait to get to the fun part of the game, the PvP? I want to PvP RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But if I got to the frontier before I'm max level, I'll get ganked by high level players. Not Fair!!!!! So along comes WAR and it's seems it's designed with one thing in mind, to fix this problem with PvP. How can we let players PvP RIGHT NOW! ???? but still keep levels for the PvE game. What a dilemma. WAR ads "scenarios". you can jump in right now, to an instanced PvP game with objectives like capture the flag. Your stats are raised so levels don't matter. Oh boy! What fun! I can PvP RIGHT NOW!! no waiting to level!!! The only problem is, the instances suck all the life out of the open world. Why bother with the PvE to level? I can jump in a scenario and PvP right now. Why bother with the open world RvR? It's empty, because everyone is playing in instanced scenarios. I got beat in RvR? Who cares, I can just jump into a scenario and play it over and over. Meh. The solution is worse than the problem, IMO. Hey look, we got some cats and no more mice problems! What are we going to do with all these cats? Well, we could get some dogs... |

There are 3 kinds of people - those who can count, and those who can''t. |
dont worry, devs these days hear folks like you. They make mmorpg's where you get spoonfed everything "Right Now". Wonder why players get bored after 1 month hey ? Just an idea though : there's some cool FPS around, give it a try ? |

Don't mock me my friend. It's a condition of mental divergence. |
I like the stat balancing, but I think WAR should focus more on open PvP. Maybe instead of turning higher level people into chikens, which is funny, they just scale their stats back to the level of that RvR area, so that higher level people can come help lower level people claim keeps and such without completely dominating and so all the action doesn't stick to the senarios and teir 4. Here I was complainin' about loss of pride and how life had treated me, and now I realized... I never had any pride |

The whole reason I was interested in WAR was the open PvP, but it was epic fail come release. Surprisingly I just did lake wintergrasp the other day in wow, and it's honestly better designed open rvr content then all of WAR. You can argue all you like regarding this, but it really is just better. And it really shows how WoW is truely the better game. WAR being a RvR game, didn't even have real siege weapons(whoopdeedoo turrets you place at places Heck I'm on a PvE server and every time wintergrasp pops, we get about 80v70 battles every single time. I can't say that about WAR and it's keeps. So what does this say about war?

Blizzard produces a quality game, no doubt. But the focus of the game isn't Wintergrasp. WoW's approach is the smorgasbord: give some content to everyone. WAR is much less of that, and more skewed toward RvR. I don't care for WAR, myself, because I think that the design was cocked up in terms of scenarios having too much of a reward -- but if they had gotten the reward scheme right from the start, I think that the game would have been better and more successful. As it is, it's bleeding population to WoW, because again WoW is a quality game. I hate what Blizzard has done to the MMO community and market, but I can still admit that Blizzard makes a quality game. ---------------------------------------- |

anyone whos played through the tutorial knows at least demon's breach, sorry its hard to take someones opinion on the game seriously when they obviously have never played it. |

Honestly if WAR was "all" instance pvp where anyone could queue from any server like they do in WoW the pvp would be alot better to lol.... WAR is a great game and so is WoW, i play both i love em both.... when comparing stuff in either game though alot of people dont look at the total picture...honestly WoW has a hell of alot better scenarios, but open pvp is usually lacking there to.... WAR has great open PVP "depending" on the server you are on but scenarios could be better... people can argue all they want about it but i have never had a problem doing open rvr in any of the tiers so far on WAR. |

There were a couple of problems with the BG's, IMO. 1. levels. BG's, if I remember correctly were in 3 level increments. People tended to play at the top level, for example, if a BG was 15-18, you played at 18 so you didn't get pwned. 2. Same thing as all instanced content, same thing as WAR scenarios. I don't know, just kinda pointless, not as immersive as an open world. Instead of the battle grounds, at mid level I would head to the frontier, sneak past high level mobs, run the zone wall, and get to the area where mid level players from the enemy realm XP'd and attack them. It was very hard to do, because you'd get killed by high level mobs, roving NPC guards, or high level enemy players most of the time before you ever made it to the gates of the enemy, which is where the lower levels XP'd.

so basicly its like if i were to complain about WOW's pvp, but quit a month after release without ever trying the battlegrounds, arena, ranking system etc. sorry, your saying you think it might work a certain way, but never actually tried it, so it must suck. you should be able to take a level 7 toon you've played for 5 hours and compete with people who've been playing for months? don't think you get what an RPG and character development is all about. |

obviously didnt try the bgs either... was the same thing as open rvr lol just confined a bit more... still a massive area and the point was to control the keep lol...was the exact same thing just instanced...nowhere in comparison to these timed scenarios that your comparing them to..... lol the bgs were just open rvr with a level cap was all. |

The only thing im glad about WAR is that they didnt make it DAOC2.So cya in 7 years. It would be a huge blow for me to see DAOC name burned. But plz Mythic DONT DONT DONT have scenarios at all if you want to do an ORVR game. |

Originally posted by fulmanfu If we take the above idea into context regarding OP's statement, most of these places were not around when the game originally launched It took quite a while for them to put in Thidranki battle ground and Demons Breech was added when Catacombs was released. I think instead of Scenarios the should have kept the DAoC style of BG where it was open and persistent. No cap on people, and there was a keep in the middle people would fight over. Once upon a midnight dreary, while I porn surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of 'hot xxx galore'. While I clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", I muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, "404." |

Played DAoC in 2001, played in battlegrounds, played past level 7. If you disagree with me and think WAR is a great PvP design, then say why. Whether or not I played DAoC, or how long, is immaterial to the discussion.
Also played Shadowbane, Lotro, EQ, EQ2, WoW, Auto Assault, Vanguard, and probably a couple I don't recall right now. If you want to discuss me, you can send me a PM. If you want to discuss the topic of PvP, please proceed. |

the point was your knocking a rvr system you obviously knew nothing about, in daoc. not knowing what THID or Lions den is, is roughly the equivilent of me saying i have played WoW for 3 years but don't know what crossroads is. obvious rubbish. i dont dig war, sorry. everytime i went to a warcamp and saw dozens of people camping the scenarios, i got a step closer to quitting and eventually did. i think daoc is as good as it gets right now, as far as player vs. player. so you, knocking it while being completely 100% unaware of how it actually is, makes no sense

I don't think you understood my original post. I'm agreeing with you. DAoC is as good as it gets, WAR is not an improvment, it's step in teh wrong direction because of the scenarios. Thid or Lion's den don't have anything to do with the point I was making. Whether or not I ever played a computer game in my life is irrelevant. Either the points are valid, or they are not, regardless of my experience, or lack of experience.

already gave my opinion on WAR / WoW... but yeah DAoC was by far the most fun pvp i have ever had BG wise and end game wise. |
