Ok why cant Tasos just come out and say: "Hey DF fans this game is not ready. We thought it would be ready by december but it is not. We are striving to give our fans the game they so desperatly want, and we want it to be in the best possible shape when it does release. We are now aiming for a , release date. Thank you for your patients." What is so bad about saying something like that? Why string your fanbase along? Why give out bias beta opinions? Why keep your fanbase in the dark for months at a time? I am starting to question the sanity of people who blindly support DF with faith alone. But of course for the nut jobs out there they still have a week to start open beta and end it before early December is over.
I would like to play DF but I will not buy it until its been out a good month atleast, so I have ample time to see if adventurine has mislead its fans like Funcom did with AoC. Waiting for: Final Fantasy XIV |

I agree with the above, but judging from most every other dev journal, or update on the forums by Tasos...There will "never" be NEGATIVE PR, that's only harmful to the game and its fans........Yeah.......Aventurine, you nailed it. ------------------------------- |

I also agree on this. If Aventurine have runned into some problems during closed beta and need more time to fix it...just say so. Funcom said everything was ok with AoC......and look what happend. |

BS. Look up vaporware. If DF is vaporware, than anything unreleased is, and then the term "vaporware" loses its meaning.
Yes, by "my " definition anything unreleased is vaporware. G&H proved a game can be on the verge of release (pre-order boxes were on the shelves) and the game still can be cancelled. In the end, what does it matter if I call it vaporware or not, as I'm sure you'd be happy to point out, my opinion doesn't count, right? Sad thing is, this is yet again another carefully controlled PR event that reveals a whole lotta nothing. Someday they'll have to quit hiding behind their NDA (which no one can actually confirm or post a copy of)

Being a long term supporter associated with the developers? That's weak even by your low standards. How has there been any indication that the long term followers, among the other regular players let in the beta, are 'associated' with the developers? Hey, you must be 'associated' with the staff at MMORPG.com, since by forumfall's standards you'd apply to be a long term supporter on these forums!
Also, you listed the same person twice, under 'close personal friend of the developers' and 'website hosted by Aventurine'. There's only one person confirmed in the beta that fits either of those criteria. One. I am asking a bit much from you, to count that high though. Me and my high expectations!
The only thing they've got in common is that 'classic' you linked (funny I've never heard of it till just now, and I played UO on release), is the name and the fact that it's about MMOs. The list the dissimilarities; - The Noob is (hand?) drawn, the webcomic you linked is made from screenshots. - The Noob has an ongoing story and character development, that webcomic appeared to be random, unrelated self-insertion stories about UO. - The Noob isn't about any particular MMO, and lambasts them all, whereas that webcomic is concerning only UO and it's various injokes. - They're nothing alike in composition, humor, storyline or characters? Seriously, that comic you linked has more in common with Warp Drive Active! OMG Winterblink stole from IMNoobie or whatever, the thieving barstool! |

No, by then I believe they will increase. Either side of this argument's funny. If the game's a success, I'll still laugh at the ignorant naysayers; otherwise, I'll continue laughing at the adamant supporters. I win! ------------------------------- |

"The Noob" is heads and shoulders above imanewbie. I have read every bit of both, and frankly, I don't see the ripoff you see. Please clarify. |

Actually from reading the CLOSED Beta snippets... it seems like it will be entirely viable to kill other players in town as well. So don't be thinking that if you stay in town you are safe. There is no safety... nowhere. You can and will be killed everywhere. Those killing you will just have to be quick with the looting otherwise the guards/towers will kill them. Now granted, there will most likely be even more killing outside town... but if someone wants to kill you... it will be impossible to stop them if they are more powerful than you. Friends/guilds/etc. will be very important, but even that won't be enough if your enemy has more of all those than you do.
These are the quotes I am referring to: “I love the fact that you can hear someone fighting from quite far away. The other day myself and a couple of others ran from the alfar land to the human one, which took a while btw, and we eventually found someone killing goblins when we started hearing the sounds of fighting.
“Looting is fine UO style and I don't want it to change. Yesterday as an Alfar I ran into a human town and PKed someone while getting attacked by the guard towers. I didn't have time to loot all his stuff and I didn't notice his mount figurine piled under some other stuff, so he was saved that by the cool looting system.” |

Its vaporware till it releases. While I do like the fact these are the first screenshots I've seen w/o the Darkfall/Aventurine logo in the corner, this writer is an avowed friend of Tasos, is under the same harsh NDA restrictions the Italians were under, and it appears she got to play the same noob/starter zone they did as well. Can't help but remember that Funcom had AOC's 1-20 area working like a charm at release, but the rest of the game certainly needed lots of improvement. They too restricted players to this new area in a big way. Now truthfully, I've never heard of the NOOB, but I'm willing to admit its one of the most credible sources they've permitted to go public yet. Shame that though she's a friend of theirs, she admits to not really following the game nor understanding much about it. But its all just part of dealing with the enigma that is Darkfall. Someday we'll get a chance to play it too, and then the mysteries will be revealed.
bah the n00b is DEFINATELY not the most credible source given the ties with DF it has, mmorpg.it on the other hand is the biggest mmo site in italy and has NO previous ties to DF and reviewed the beta, THATS more credible, though yeah neither of these dispell doubts that beta is real (it is dumb@sses...) I must give the trolls this, if Aventurine is trying to dispell doubts that its vaporware, its doing the worst job in the universe. When I'm energetic I'm: When I'm at default I'm:

Originally posted by klapdoor For once I'd like to join in what is one of my favorite sources of comic relief in these sad times, the MMORPG Darkfall forums. The reason: the part quoted above. Why?: I have honestly looked at the screenshots and in my humble opinion, they are worse than bad. Reasoning:
Lets first start that it looks like the game doesn't do very well to convert screens.... I have to say I am pretty worried about the graphics in those screenshots aswell. I hope and think they are pretty low settings. I would ofcourse play the game in "any" graphics, if it deliveres it's features. That said, you make valid points. I don't know how you can tell there's another light source behind the character, you're looking at the shadows on the ground? Well, I won't continue here, there might be, and there might not be another light source there. Something that is saying to me that those are REALLY low-end graphics of the game engine is those black lines in some models, and the almost 2D looking sprites. But, when looking at the other, official screenshots, they look FAR better, and in the ADW video the graphics looked awesome to mee, so I don't think graphics will be a problem. The engine seems to be greatly scaleable! |

Anyone with a clue can look at any of the videos and screenshots released in the past few years and realise that all the major elements of the game are in. Not to mention you don't sign contracts with datacentres and publically-traded distributors unless your product is as ready as you say it is. In the real world, there are these things called duty of disclosure and due diligence, which in a nutshell means if your shit isn't up to what you're claiming, you get your arse wtfsued and potentially jailed.
There aren't preorders or CEs to sell, they have absolutely zero to gain from saying the game is ready if it wasn't. DF might not release by Dec 31, but so what?

Looks better then WoW, Warhammer, Runes of Magic, and a dozen of other MMOs that are alive and kicking, and/ or under production. 3. All the NON-Fanboys are going to have a field day? By this You mean TROLLS. By Troll I mean people who honestly don't plan to play the game, and just want to torment, make statements that are completely irrelevent, or false.(LIKE the Comment I quoted) You think they haven't been saying the same crap all along? Aside from the Vaporware crap, Nothing has changed for trolls. Different games get the same Troll responce. "Graphics suck" "It won't be finished" "Pay to Beta" mobo jumbo.
The funniest thing is looking at a Darkfall trolls post history and seeing fanboi posts in WOW forums. WOW's graphics were outdated when the game released, and look where it still is now. |

Isn't that the truth. With all their gadrillions of subscribers and mounds of cash, you think they would have updated the engine a little smidge. Then, they'd probably lose a lot of 'scribers, because most players new in a certain genre will jump on the first sniff of change. |

Gianna posted some information in the flash chatbox... thing... on her website. Her specs are; 9800GX2" Intel Core 2 Quad Xeon X3350 2.66GHz @ 3.70GHz ...and the game is running at default gfx settings (apparently because she wasn't authorised to post screenshots at different settings). We'll also be seeing some screenshots with the shadows turned on and off next (which she has been authorised to show). |

Make character. Gank newbs. When you can't get around easily anymore because of guards killing you or wahtever penalties exist for ganking, erase character, make new character, gank more newbs.
