Well going through the forums here, it seems many people are posting blindly without looking into the Matter so heres my review.

I started playing this game when it came out, this is my first time playing after SCO was shut down. I never saw the end of SCO, but when I stopped playing FPS I went back and found out SCO was shut down.

AceOnline, run by SubaGames, a branch of Wicked Interactive, is a NorthAmerican Franchise of this game run in Canada.

Gameplay, this gameplay is strongly like SCO(Space Cowboys Online) but with slight changes. There are new weapon creation methods, as well as armors (Legend), and a new Base War system, where a brigade from a perticular nation can control a base. With the North American version, the new "expansion" Episode 3 was released. This was highly anticipated for a long time and NA has implementeted it before other version (excluding the Korean only version). This adds new items, maps, mobs, bosses and strategy. 

Now for the actual SubaGames/NA AO related matter. The way things are run are great. The GMS are very interactive and arent stuck up. They respond quickly and listen to what the players ask for. They are friendly and don't bash. They come in and talk to us, find out whats wrong and respond, EVERYDAY. This is great. I played AR(European localized Ace Online) and I never once saw a friendly GM, only one that purposfully crashed the server. The GMs here are paid, and thus their support is great. 

As for this "Virus" issue. This game does not have a virus. If it did there would be no way they would be legally allowed to run. Some AntiVirus programs think it is a virus, for what ever reason, but it is not. I personally used AVG, but not everything it says is a Virus. It scanned my computer and told me a local Windows File was a virus RIGHT after a fresh install, this proves that there are false positives with these programs. Remember not everything the computer says is right.  

The system requirements for this game are pretty low, but to play full quality you do need a fairly good computer. 

As for the Ingame community. There are both sides to this. Some peopel are jerks, some people are nice, and others are inbetween. As with all communities, people are friendly or just dont care about you. This is expected from all MMO games. The forums are quite messy at times, but its nothing to deter from the experience.

All in all this game is a lot of fun. The grind can be painful at times, but tehre is always something to do. The PVP is great in this game, and strategy is a must. THIS ISNT a game you can just play and be good at, you need to show some sort of dedication and willingness to learn.

Just goes to show, even the best Anti-Virus Programs can have false positives.

I've been playing for a couple weeks now, and there is definitely no virus attached.

Great game too btw.

I have been playing since the start of open beta, I can say that it is one of the best free games I have played.

I love that It requires player skill rather then mindless click and kill. The cash shop does not sell game breakers and some of the items can be aquired by crafting or quest rewards. The GM team actually listens to and responds to the player base. Those who cheat / hack / exploit are in fact banned. The server communities are for the most part friendly an talkative bunch, if you use ventrillo and teamspeak you will find many brigades who do also.

For those who are looking for PvP it is here, this games focus is primarily PvP, yes there is a slight grind but its almost nothing in my own opinion. It took me less then 6 days to reach level 74.

Hm, this might be worth a shot. I better try it while it's free!

I played it. Having also done Freelancer on persistent multiplayer worlds, I'd much rather do Freelancer.

It's really quite bad, to be honest. I'm not just trolling, I played it quite a bit to get a feel for it. It's just very primitive, simple, and dated (even more than Freelancer, and that at least has some depth to it in comparison).

I guess if you're broke it is an option, but I really think it's extremely bad when compared to other free options. I give it a 2 out of 10. I reserve a 1 for games that make people die upon viewing them.

I would like to know how far you got before you decided on your opinion. Game doesn't truly open itself in its full glory until around level 50 (few days of grinding really if you're casual). This game is heavily PvP centered, if you didn't PvP, you can't really write an honest review (this includes wars, skirmishes, duels and major Nation v Nation battles).

I agree with above post. Like all great games, its very easy to pick up and play but like many "rpg level-up" type games it takes a while to really get into some of the nuances. And there is layer upon layer of depth that until you play for a while (and do some research into some of the complexities) you might never even know are there. The levelling process is very fast at first which might lead someone who only plays for a few days that that is all there is to the game. AO is not an arcade shooter even though it may seem that way at first. It is not perfect like nothing is, yet it does reward those who stay with it and leaves you wanting to always come back for more. To achieve some goal or reach out for some milestone or get that rare item or upgrade that armor or beat that rival or enchant that wep.

After this game has been through several global iterations (Space Cowboys, Flysis, Air Rivals) I had been expecting a stagnant community in AO and have found the exact opposite. Lots of special events, updates that add new features, a new expansion that just came out, holiday bonuses, the ever-changing daily Happy Hour that grants different bonuses (XP gain percent, rare drops, money gains, War points, etc) and even the ongoing drama between nations and other players/brigades in the same nation(!) make this a vibrant living game.

Not to mention you get to blow stuff up. A LOT.

I am not having from from level 1 up then it is a failure in my eyes. Why should someone be forced to get to level 20, 30, 40 or even 50 or above before the fun begins. This is where games FAIL.  If as a developer you want people to buy and play your games and keep playing then they need to be made fun from the first time you create the character and all through player progression in the game.

It depends on what you mean by fun, some people enjoy just the PVE grinding aspect of the game. The reason people say to wait until 40+ is the PVP aspect of the game. If you try PVP on a one on one basis at lower lvls you will just die alot and probably ragequit the game. Plus in some instances at lower lvl you won't even be able to enter the systems where PVP is taking place until you are at higher lvls. The thing is up to lvl 50 is pretty easy to achieve no matter what Gear you chose.
 

The game truely is great at 40+ when you can really do something in the nation wars, but if you hang out in the beginner ares you'll find people of all levels dueling which is a great diversion and great practice for later. I actually learned how easy it is to counter the all powerful b-gear using a supposedly gimped i-gear there.
