After 20 continuous hours in front of the computer screen playing WoW, a 15 year old Swede went into convulsions and collapsed from sleep deprivation and hunger. The boy is expected to make a full recovery and his father has vowed to limit the amount of time he can play from now on. I agree, I used to push 60+ hrs as a youth. Pizza and caffeine is all you needed.

I don't wanna comment on the original news, since it is quite tragic. |

Let them fall...WOW and subscribers are like a Hydra and its heads...for every 1cut off...10 others spring up to take it's place. All part of the business strategy.....of course I'm kidding. Just funny the father will only limit the amount of gametime....if my kid played a game to such a degree that it risked his health...he would not be able to play that game..period..at least not in my house.. Of course..I don't have kids so...that's not saying much. hic!...CAW! |

Yeah, perhaps he told his Dad it was only 20 hours, when it was actually longer. Or he might have some kind of ailment like diabetes or something that would make eating food necessary to prevent collapsing. "If everyone is thinking alike, then somebody isn't thinking." ~ George S Patton |

Wow, what is wrong with you people? 20 continuous hours of gaming is unhealthy and absurd. If you do this regularly you seriously need to go out and get a life before you end up like that guy in Korea who died of organ failure. Want a 21 day free trial for Eve online? PM me. |

Some people are more susceptible to such things. I get headaches from FPS games with good graphics much faster than anyone I've met. Your average person could handle gaming for over 20 hours with no sleep or food, although I imagine that it wouldn't be easy. These kids did get at least some sleep and ate some food. Of course, gaming for 20 hours and not bothering to eat or sleep is silly even if you don't almost drop dead.

A teen collapsing after 20 hours of gaming. And? There are worse things happening across the world. |

I didn't sleep for three days once. I was working my way through college, and between work and school I didn't have time to sleep. I started to hallucinate which at the time was a bit scary but in retrospect was kinda cool.
One hallucination was a black horse riding out into the middle of the street. Then I blinked and it was gone. The other thing I saw was a man staring at me from across the street wearing a full body yellow raincoat with the hood pulled over his head. I blinked and it actually turned out to be a yellow pole about waist high.
Later when I finally made it home and was able to sleep, I was dizzy and nauseas. I jerked upright atleast three or four times wretching, but luckily I didn't vomit. When I fell asleep it felt like being smothered to death. I awoke maybe 18 hours later with what felt like a hang over...head ache, nausea, malaise.
Not something I would ever want to repeat. |

I used to fall asleep at the keyboard playing EverQuest. Jolt cola(coffee now), meat, cheese and bread(a dab of mustard also) and i was set for the day. Passout for 15 minutes and right back to grinding that EQ crack xp. 48+ hours sometimes, well on my weekends, did have to work and get some sleep. |

And the other 5 million swedes that died that day are not nearly as important! |

Only once did i spend more than 20 hours playing a Game, FFXI 2004, I really wanted to unlock Dragoon, and back then people did not have guides up online on how to do everything, So I had to seriously go and find everything on my own exploring the world, took me a total of about 32 hours to do it. And it was on a school night. I was so silly back in high school I would never put my grades on the line for a video game now that I'm in college. |

Jeez, you guys are unbelievable, only one person has said anything that means something so far and thats the guy that said you all need lives if you spend that amount of time gaming.. Fair enough gaming is enjoyable but the posters in this thread (and others like it) seriously need to get some perspective. I myself have done extreme hours of gaming and these days i wonder "what was it all for?" have a bleeding heart people, extreme gaming is harmful to your health. You say "pansy" "pussy" and other such things, i say poor sod. It's a sad thing when something like this happens and all you guys can do is call names and such? Tells me just how this world is turning out.. Don't you guys have lives? many would just quote to this post something along the lines of "/fail" i say your the ones that fail, fail at life so you hide away in your fantasy worlds, trying to ignore real life which is family, kids, jobs, bills etc. ANYONE who says they have a family and a job and can still play those amounts of hours need to take a damned hard look at their relationship and i mean the one with your partner not with your fantasy world. flame away all you like but in the end, when something like this happens to you just remember how it'll turn out, no one will care, all you'll get is name called and abused for being a "pansy" cause you didn't make it long enough. Next time your near a mirror, take a long hard look at your life, take a long hard look at those close to you and THINK if you have the brain capacity to do so. |
