TWILIGHT ONION!

Yes I said it, I belive guild wars is trully the only honest Free 2 play game out there, After having investigated almost all the most popular Free 2 play games currently, I find all the companies have a way to MAKE IT so that you HAVE TO spend money near the end of the games leveling, in order to be a strong player. Its not just money though its MUCH MORE money than in a Standard mmorpg there is no way you can get by in F2P games with 15 dollars put a month in the cash shop at end game, you usually need much more than that to stay competitive.  It  gets to the point where if you don't have the best luck in the world, even if you farm for hundreds of hours, you still need the cash shop for something. This is the case in almost every free 2 play mmorpg Iv seen, This INCLUDES Runes of Magic.

I come to the conclusion that Guild wars is trully the only honest free 2 play mmorpg out there.

(Free 2 play) Not free2 buy I mean FREE 2 play by name.

Also for those who think guild wars is not a True mmorpg..well

Massive- Guild wars has a massive world, No where in the word massive does it say non instanced.

Multiplayer- (Guild was has over 3million players)

Online- Guild wars is online play only.

Role- you play the role of one of ten classes.

Playing- you do play this game, and it even has a real story to role play tru, with cinematics and voice work.

Game- It is a game >_>

This is why I think GW is the only true Fair honest Free 2 PLAY by name MMORPG.

Do you think Guild wars is the only honest Free 2 play mmorpg

it depends on what people think massive is. over 100+ players? 1000? 10000?

oh and do you know there is a feature called "Spell Check"? click edit on your post and click the button besides the "undo" button. A button with ABC and a think under it.
and put some effort to write 'to' instead of '2'. its only a letter difference :/

I am extremely sure Q-World is one of those games that doesn't force you to buy items from their cash shop in order to be a top player. The stuff in the cash shop are mostly just attention grabbers and HP/MP items which you can also get in game.

Trickster Online, Rose Online, and Perfect World are also not cash shop dependent. Game play may be more difficult without cash shop items, but they are not a must in order to reach max level. If you are able to resist the temptation of a quick fix for a difficult situation you will find a lot of other MMOs that don't force you into buying their items.

I appreciate your enthusiasm and I am glad you have found an MMO that you enjoy, but I disagree with Guild Wars being the only "true" F2P MMO.

I don't mean reach the max level, I mean become a competitive player once you are at the max level. (or very well near it 95+/100)Becoming competitive with other max level players is almost impossible without regular use of the item malls in most F2P mmorpgs, even Perfect world has this problem, and to top it off the cash shop is simply way overpriced.

I agree that a good bit of F2P MMOs are like that, but I don't believe all of them are. In my opinion to become a competitive player or to reach max level in those types of games depends more on your skill rather than how much money you spend on cash shop items. It seems you may also see this possibility looking at your choice of words.

I say its not a true MMORPG, it's an Online Role Playing Game, they even advertised it as such when first making the game. The reason for it not being an MMORPG instead of ORPG is the fact that even though the game is "massive" and its "multiplayer", its not "massive multiplayer". This means having a massive amount of multiplayer, which it does not have outside of towns.

This is not saying it's bad in anyway, it's just stating what people believe.

I dont think Guild Wars is a MMORPG.  Its more of a single player RPG with a multiplayer PvP feature.

It is of course true that games marketed as Free to play are not so, because they are designed to make you buy from the item shops and there is no way around it if you want to remain competitive.

However, Guild Wars is not Free to play since you have to spend a lot on the client and expansions. There is no distinction between Free to play and buying the client and expansions. It is not Free to play.

Honestly ..There is NO "Free to play" MMO's at all

This is just a marketing spin, to make the game "sell" more, in these cases they sell more if they get more players, and they will get those players by telling you "It's Free"..

They all have their ways of getting income in some way..

In the case of Guild Wars they are selling boxes and expansions..

In most other cases, they have a cash shop..

In rare cases they have ingame adds, Anarchy Online I think..Plus the expansions will cost you past a certain point..

well then buddy GUILD WARS is Massive...its got way more than 10000 as a matter of fact Guild Wars has Millions Of players playing it right now around the world.

Arena Net has confirmed that it has sold over 5 million Accounts since it's launch date.

I've been saying this for years about Guild Wars, It's  a great game with competetive PVP.  Great PVE aspect, with lots and lots of content.

Guild wars 2 will only make this franchise even more popular.

They are introducing many changes that players from Guild wars have asked for:

Auction House

Persistent world

Crafting

Mounts

More User controls on their character

etc etc

Guild Wars 2 is gonna Rock and its still F2P after you buy the Box, what a deal I can't wait.

I'm going to correct you on a few things.

First of all you have done some TERRIBLE research. the VAST MAJORITY of micro transaction mmorpg's do NOT require you to spend any money whatsoever. Buying money gives you certain benefits but these benefits are NOT required. It's like buying a drink when you go to a restaurant, you don't HAVE to buy the drink in order to eat the food.

2nd of all you completely misunderstood the term MMORPG.

The definition of Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game is the possibility to play with a massive amount of people in the same online persistent world

"Massively" is NOT refering to the world size.

If you're still not convinced,

www.mmorpgmania.com/guild-wars.html

" "Guild Wars is not an MMORPG," said Jeff Strain, producer of the game.

yes Guild Wars is F2P and your saying that it's a marketing Spin???  Yah lets see how richer Arena Net is really getting.

Guild Wars has had 4 boxes for sale..

Prophecies which sold for like 49.99 and is now about 19.99

Factions which sold for 49.99 and is now around 19.99

Nightfall which sold for 49.99 and is now around 19.99

and Eye of the North which sold for 49.99

add them all up and you have 199.96

For other MMO's you have to buy the box set and the expansions as well, AND you have to pay montly fees..

in the 4 years that Guild Wars has been out it would of cost a person roughly 767 dollars for montly fees for the 4 years...IF they would Charge, but they don't..

so eventhough Guild wars isn't a F2P because like you say, you have to pay for the box and expansions, it's still a much better deal than most MMo's

It's not an MMORPG, the whole concept is more than the single words that form the name.

And its a persistant world.

F2P games are not only NOT free, but studies show players spend MORE money on item shops, than if they paid a monthly fee, making the supposedly FREE games, MORE expensive that P2P.

Think about it. If I pay to play, it's 14.95 a month. That's all the game is getting from me this month, 14.95. IN a "free" game I can spend a 100 bucks in one month on the item shop, and people do.

Guild Wars is not an MMORPG, because it has a lobby. MMORPGs do not have lobbys, they have worlds.

But I agree with the OP, Guild Wars is an online game that is free, unlike the worthless cheating scumbag item mall games that try to suck in unsuspecting players by calling them "free" when they are anything but free.

At least GW is a G for game. A lot of the other MMOs out there I'm not so sure about. And if they are not games how can they be labeled M for multiplayer? I would suggest more like mutiple appearences on an interactive screensaver. How can I claim this? Grinding is contrary to gaming and GW is one of the few if not the only grindfree ORPG. G for game or grindfest.

Guild Wars is nothing Massive. When you leave the city to enter the world and play the game you are alone with your 6 people party and you will NEVER see anyone else.

Wow... 6 people... and you will never meet anyone else while playing outisde of the cities....truely massive

And who cares if they have sold many game boxes and have many players playing the game? It's like saying the other online FPS games whith their 8 or 16 players max are MASSIVE, they have also sold millions of boxes (see, the FPS games have 2 or 3 times more simultaneous players than guild wars, and when you are at the server select screen there are hundreds of people there, it's like the guild wars cities).

And I am not even talking about the over instanced world. No there's nothing massive there. It's still a good multi player game though.

And no, it's in no way free 2 play. I can't download it and play without paying, like other f2p games. It also isn't a subsciption based game like some mmorpgs. It's a pay 2 play multi player game, like unreal tournament and the other FPS games.

more game devs need to adopt GW's pricing strat.

just make charge for each optional patch rather than a manditory payment.

paying for content is the future. charging THAT much just to keep servers running is a rip off.

Spend alot compared to 0 for the game and 0 for monthly pay. Everyone here is talking about F2P games, not the 15 a month variety.

So, item shops aside, I would say paying for a box Vs paying nothing is paying a lot more. Is it worthy of it? That I let others decide but in MY experience, I have yet to encounter a F2P game worthy of my time.

Nothing is ever free, at least nothing good.

But GW is probably the game that gives you most bang for the buck.
